DESCRIPTION

When would you say B2B marketing first began? One might argue that it started with a single invention — Johannes Gutenburg’s printing press in 1450. Gutenburg’s invention made mass printing possible. As a result, print advertising was born. Some think that the B2B marketing industry didn’t really take off until the landline telephone was developed in the 1940s. From that, telemarketing emerged and targeted businesses to buy their services. One thing we can all agree on is that the industry has come a very long way. Just in the 21st century, we’ve seen B2B marketing best practices change from the old interruptive way of outbound marketing to the more engaging way of inbound marketing. The means in which we reach our target audience have drastically changed, too. The methods of reaching an audience has shifted from traditional mediums like print and TV to digital marketing via the web and other online channels. There’s a great deal to cover in B2B marketing history. Since we consider ourselves modern marketers, knowledgeable of the latest and greatest digital marketing practices, we’ve created an infographic that highlights our favorite modern marketing milestones from the early 1980s to present day. Take a trip down memory lane with us! What pivotal points in B2B marketing would you add?
