Equipping students to be lifelong reflective learners, enabling them to be responsible and respectful global citizens with adaptive and creative skills ready to face the challenges of a diverse and rapidly changing world.
Secondary Story Headline
Message from the Principal Sickness Last week we had a number of students who were unwell come to school. We appreciate parents coming to collect students when we phone to notify that children are unwell. We have also had high staff absences due to ill health over the past 2 weeks. Please keep your children at home if they have flu or virus symptoms as we don’t want sickness shared. North Coast Cross Country Congratulations to Killara and Ellie Winiarczyk for representing our school so well at the Macleay Cross Country. They will represent the Macleay schools later this term at the North Coast Cross Country. Athletics Carnival Our athletics Carnival will be held in 2 weeks at Services Park, Kempsey. All students aged 8 and over will participate in this carnival. Some heats for some events will occur at school. We welcome parents, family and friends to attend this carnival on 25th June. Brainstorm Productions The Brainstorm Theatre Group performed at our school on Thursday. It is one anti-bullying activity our school utilises to educate our chil-dren regarding the importance of developing kind and respectful relationships. School Uniforms Please be advised that jumpers with hoods are NOT part of our school uniform. Jumpers should be navy blue only. If your child comes in a non school uniform jumper or jacket they will be asked to go to the office to borrow a jumper for the day. Each year we accumulate numerous school jumpers in lost property. Please ensure your child’s jumper is clearly marked with their name so that we can return lost items to their rightful owners. Visitor to our School Elwyn Toby, local Aboriginal Artist/Story teller will be working with all students this Thursday. Elwyn will be visiting each class and sharing an animal dreaming story, from the Dunghutti nation. He will be sketching the animal on a wooden board in preparation for painting at our Fredo Public School NAIDOC Day Celebrations. Each classroom has an animal associated with that classroom Homebase and we think it is fitting that the students learn the Dunghutti animal name and story linked to that animal. NAIDOC Celebrations All parents and families are invited to attend NAIDOC celebrations on Friday 26th July 2019.

The Fredo Informer
News from 1/2 H & 1/2R Over the next fortnight during our Mathe-matics sessions, we are learning about fractions, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 and using frac-tion and decimal language in a variety of everyday contexts. We will also be meas-uring and comparing durations of events using informal and formal units as well as working with calendars.
In Literacy we will read the text ‘Looking
For Crabs’ by Bruce Whatley which is
about a young boy who loves to search for
crabs when he goes to the beach with his
family. But they can't find a single crab. He
wonders where do crabs go in the holidays
- to Disneyland, Hawaii, or do they go
somewhere for lunch? The other text we
are looking at is called Journey of the Sea
Turtle by Mark Wilson which is about the
story of survival, of a brave and beautiful
Australian sea turtle, the loggerhead tur-
tle. The journey of an Australian sea turtle
hatchling, from the beach of her birth and
the predators there, to the dangers she
faces at sea.
Both classes are continuing to focus on
using speech marks when writing dialogue
in their writing and using interesting words
like bellowed, exclaimed, replied, whis-
pered instead of said.
We will be making rain gauges over the next couple of weeks in Science, so stu-dents are asked to bring in a 1.5 or 2L plas-tic soft drink bottles. We have been practising the skills needed
to throw a discus properly and we will also
move onto shot put and long jump in
preparation for the school athletics carni-
val in week 9 of this term.
All students thoroughly enjoyed the Brain-storm production last Thursday. On Thursday in week 10 we will be going on our K-2 day excursion to Coffs Harbour and notes were sent home last week. Please return these notes and payment as soon as possible There is an assembly this Friday afternoon. Hope you can come.
A reminder that our library lessons are on each Tuesday and children are encouraged to bring in their library bags every week so that they can borrow and enjoy reading books from our fan-tastic library. 1/2R Please send in a plain white t-shirt or white skivvy of your child’s size with your child’s name as soon as possible as Mrs Rose needs to dye these for the Fredo Spectacular. Please send in the labelled t-shirt before the holidays this would be greatly appreciated. Mrs Rose & Mrs Henderson News from Kindergarten We hope you enjoyed your long weekend. The end of this term is very busy for kinder so please ensure your child is having early nights. This week we have Elwyn Toby coming to visit Kinder on Thursday morning to share with us the Dhungutti story for our class name Garruka - which means kookaburra. This week during mathematics we are focusing on halves of a whole object and also mass. Please continue to read daily with your child and ensure they are reviewing their sight words. Mrs Lees
