Event guidelines for specific events

During this session, the following topics will be

addressed:

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition):Competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.

STAR Events promote the FCCLA Mission:To focus on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader.

Introduction to STAR Events

Student members and adults that play an important role in the success of events.

They support the belief that youth are capable of assuming important roles has been the key to the success of STAR Events.

Who are STAR Event Evaluators?

Event Lead Consultants – Adults experienced in working with STAR Events who are responsible for handling details and managing a specific event on site.

Evaluators – Evaluation teams composed of student members and adults who are responsible for evaluating entries, assigning ratings to participants, and discussing strengths and areas for improvement. Evaluation teams will be comprised of three members.

Room Consultants – Student members who work together to manage the flow of participants and assist evaluators.

Project Identification Page – A page at the front of a document or display containing headings specifically called for by event rules.

For example, Project Identification Page for National Programs in Action:

Appropriate dress - includes FCCLA official blazer, red polo shirts blouses, collared shirts, sweaters, jackets, slacks, dresses and suits.

Costume/Uniform - Clothing of a distinctive design or fashion worn by members of a particular group and serving as a means of identification.

Competition Clothing Choice

Foundational EventsBuilds basic leadership and life skills. Great for members who want to get involved and improve upon themselves.

Applied Technology: A Portfolio/Oral Presentation eventRecognizes participants who develop a project using technology that addresses a concern related to FACSE and/or related occupations and integrates and applies content from academic subjects.

Individual Event: Junior Senior

Allowable Presentation Elements: Costumes/Uniforms, Portfolio.

Not Allowed : Audio, Easel(s), File Folders, Flip Chart(s), Manuals, Props/Pointers, Skits, Visual Equipment and Visuals.

Career Investigation: A Portfolio/Oral Presentation eventRecognizes participants for their ability to perform self-assessments, research, explore a career, set career goals, create a plan for achieving goals, and describe the relationship of FACSE coursework to the selected career.


Allowable Presentation Elements: Audio, Costumes/Uniforms, Easel(s), Flip Chart(s), Portfolios, Props/Pointers, Skits, Visual Equipment, Visuals.

Entrepreneurship: A Portfolio/Oral Presentation eventRecognizes participants who develop a plan for a small business using FACS skills and sound business practices and that relates to an area of FACSE or related occupations.

Environmental Ambassador:A Portfolio/Oral Presentation eventRecognizes participants who address environmental issues that adversely impact human health and well-being and who actively empower others to get involved.

Focus on Children: A Display/Oral Presentation eventRecognizes participants who use FACS skills to plan and conduct a child development project that has a positive impact on children and the community.

Interpersonal Communications:A File Folder/Oral Presentation event.Recognizes participants who use FCS and/or related occupation skills and apply communication techniques to develop a project designed to strengthen communication, with their community, employment, family, peer group or school group.

Leadership: A Portfolio/Oral Presentation eventRecognizes participants who actively evaluate and grow in their leadership potential by developing a mentorship relationship.

Promote and Publicize FCCLA!

LeadershipProvides an opportunity for leaders to gain recognition for their work in their chapters. Intended for a chapter project led by a team who takes it to competition.

Advocacy: A Portfolio/Oral Presentation event.Recognizes participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and ability to actively identify a local, state, or national concern, research the topic, identify a target audience and potential partnerships, form a plan and advocate for the issue.

Culinary Arts: A Demonstration eventRecognizes participants enrolled in an occupational culinary arts/food service training programs for their ability to work as members of a team to produce a quality meal using industrial culinary arts/food service techniques and equipment.
