For those who have done this (I think thatʼs all of you!!), you know how much fun this is.  And the kids love it.

H. Glen Rowe, CPA, is currently the District 5810 Rotary Foundation Chair. He has been a Rotarian for 31 years, 28 years in District 5890 (Houston). In the Houston district he was an Assistant Governor and the District Chairman of Membership, Interact, Rotaract, Vocational Ser-vice and the 4-Way Test Contest. He was a Member of the District Membership Committee,

Foundation Committee, Grants Committee, Finance Committee and Audit Committee. He was a Trainer with Gulf Coast Leader-ship Institute (counterpart to RILI) for three years. He has host-ed 10 GSE teams and 13 Youth Exchange students. He has trav-eled to Mexico, Guatemala, Poland, England and Nicaragua on Rotary projects. He has been married to Vicki for 36 years; they have two beautiful daughters and one beautiful granddaughter.

Our Meals on Wheels Committee has been a part of Park Cities Rotary for over 20 years. One of our long time drivers, Charles Delphenis, is having to retire.

We rarely have turnover and many of our members have been driving MOW routes for 15 - 20 years. They really enjoy the opportunity to get to know the people on the route, and visa versa, since many people on a route have been receiv-ing deliveries for years.

We deliver one route on Monday through Thursday, and another on Mondays only, generally from 10:00 AM to noon. We do not deliver on Fridays due to our club meeting. A mem-ber usually delivers once a month, but we also have opportu-nities to deliver 4 times a year, or being on our sub list to sub for a regular member when your schedule permits.

President Cleve Clinton called the meeting to order. John Glancy gave the invocation, and noted that PDG Dick Dickson is in need of our prayers. He also

right now due to the construc-tion of the extension of Olive Street through Klyde Warren Deck Park. Their mission is to provide clean, safe, reliable transportation, free of charge. noted that PP Dick would appreciate cards.

Bill Matthews led the Pledge of Allegiance, and the “Star Spangled Banner,” followed by “Tumbling Tumbleweeds.” Bob Patton, as-sisted by Nolan Duck with the mike, introdu-ced our visiting Rotarians and guests. Among our guests today were two sons of former member Drew Young. Shawn Foster an-nounced The Hub and web advertisers of the week. Paul Pirok introduced our newest member Maribeth Hughes. Presi-dent Cleve awar-

ded Shawn Foster his Blue Badge; he is a newby no more! Dax Seale announced the Fellowship Event at the SMU-

Rutgers football game. President Cleve con-tributed two tickets to the game to be auction-ed. The winner was PDG C.C. Collie.

PP Karl von Bieberstein announced our meeting at ChildsPlay at Bachman Lake. He also asked that everyone sign up on the website. Plans are being prepared for the Hol-iday Party; date will be announced soon. Bryan Robert introduced our speakers today Phil Cobb and Tom Persch who spoke about the McKinney Avenue Trolley. Phil Cobb began by saying that the Trolley has run for twenty-four years, but for the first time is not running

They currently have 3.1 miles of track. DART came in later. In 2002 they extended service to the West Village. In 2011 the City Place turntable went into operation. They are part of DART and are funded by DART; they are the M-Line. They run 365 days a year; at peak times it is about fifteen minutes between trol-leys, and about twenty minutes at off-peak times. Since Klyde Warren Park opened their ridership is up about forty-five percent. Each of the cars has a name. The oldest is over a hundred years old and several are nearing one hundred. Some were used as hay barns before being renovated. The cars have been rescued from several countries. They all have been re-

furbished and air conditioned. Tom Persch explained that they are adding some additional cars due to the increase in ridership

and expansion of the route. They feel that connectivity to downtown is very important. The Trolley is al-so supported by various merchant groups along the routes. The Trol-leys connect with the DART light rail lines, and future plans include extending the Trol-ley to the Bishop Arts area in Oak Cliff. Much of their maintenance and operation is done by volunteers. They are electric, but run eco-nomically, with an electricity bill of only about $2,000 a month. He explained that they use electricity only when accelerating.

THE HUB

THOUGHTS ON . . .

One must be poor to know the luxury of giving. ~ George Eliot It is well to give when asked but it is better to give unasked, through understanding. ~ Kahlil GibranI have come to believe that giving and receiving are really the same. Giving and receiving - not giving and taking. ~ Joyce GrenfellGiving is a necessity sometimes... more urgent, indeed, than having.

~ Margaret Lee RunbeckIf you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way. ~ Buddha
