This committee has been hard at work in their weekly meetings laying the groundwork for a good pastoral search. I am very grateful for the many folks who participated in the two church conversations. Your input was most helpful. Now I encourage you to hear the summary report from your Pastor Search Committee. This report is not the only thing that will be happening on Sunday night. Some important Bylaw revisions will require a vote, as well as some other exciting ministry recommendations. We do need a quorum to be present in order to change the Bylaws, so I hope that you will join us as we make decisions about the ministry of the church and hear reports about the church conversations related to our pastor search. As I write these words I am sitting in the Pastor’s Office at First Baptist. Looking out the window, I gaze across the courtyard to the exterior wall of the Fellowship Hall where our Church in Conference will be held. Prominently displayed there are the words of 1 Peter 2:5 that are so large I can read them across the courtyard: “You also, as living stones, are being built into a living house.” What a beautiful reminder of our calling to live and work together as a church. It takes all of us to do the work of God through our church. A few stones will not build much of a house – all of the rocks are needed! Let’s see how God might shape us and build us into the House of God in this corner of the world. Our meeting together this Sunday night is a part of this holy work. Don’t let your “stone” be left out. The House of God needs you. David Hull

First Thoughts

Church in Conference Sunday, June 266:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall

6:30 PM Conference

When we had our second church conversation about pastoral expectations, a question was asked at the end of the meeting. “When will we be able to hear the results of what we have said around the tables tonight?” Great question. At the time I did not have the exact answer, other than to encourage you to stay tuned because there would come a time when the results would be tabulated and then shared. Let me tell you when that will be.

This Sunday night at 6:30 we will have a Church in Conference in the Fellowship Hall. During that meeting the Pastor Search Committee will share with the church the results of our two conversations together. I know that you will want to hear from them.

Our Church in Prayer

(Jesus said) “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14 & 16... For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. Philippians 2:13016aSuggested Prayer Points:* Give thanks for the Light of the world, Jesus the Christ!* Pray for those in the world who live and serve Christ, even at the risk of persecution and death.* Ask that you always may have the faith to live and serve Christ.Closing Prayer: O Lord, fill my life until nothing but Jesus can be seen!

Memorials & Honorarium Student Ministry

Have you seen the green envelopes? When we donate money using them, that serves as one way we are able to support mission causes. Much of the money we collect through the green envelope stays right here in our community and is distributed to local organizations as well as to our own benevolence ministry. Our benevolence ministry helps meet needs for a number of families and individuals in Richmond and Columbia counties. Each week, we distribute groceries to 25-30 families, some of whom also receive assistance with rent or utilities. Each week it takes almost as many volunteers to help make this good work happen. Please consider putting an extra gift in the offering plate using a green envelope this Sunday. Yes, it is above your regular tithe or offering, but it is another way we reach out to and care for our community. Thank you for your love, prayers, service and support. - Chip Reeves
