Priest, Prophet, King

Continued Led by Fr. Matt Guckin

Who was Jesus? The better we understand this itinerant preacher whom many called the Messiah, the better we’ll know ourselves. Fr. Guckin continues Fr. Robert Barron’s series “Priest, Prophet, King” to help us discover Jesus as the Anointed One – the ultimate priest, prophet, and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures.

World Meeting of Families Prayer

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.

May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel.

May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.Amen.Amen.Amen. Jesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and JosephJesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!pray for us!pray for us!pray for us!

World Meeting of Families Monthly Theme There will be a different theme each month leading up to the

World Meeting of Families (September 2015) based on the

10 chapters of the Preparatory Catechesis “Love is Our

Mission: The Family Fully Alive.”

May’s Theme is Light in a Dark World At its best, the family is a school of love, justice, compassion, forgiveness, mutual respect, patience and humility in the midst of a world darkened by the selfishness and conflict. In these ways, the family teaches what it means to be human. However, many temptations arise which try to coax us into forgetting that male and female are created for covenant and communion. For example, poverty, affluence, pornography, contraception, philosophical and other intellectual mistakes can all create contexts that challenge or threaten healthy family life. The Church resists these things for the sake of protecting the family.

Become a Volunteer! More than 10,000 volunteers are needed to help with the World Meeting of Families and the Papal Visit. Go to the website to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Host a Family! Thousands will visit for this international event from September 22-27. You can open your home and host a family or an individual. Open your home and host a family! It is easy to sign up online.

Learn more at WorldMeeting2015.org or email host@WorldMeeting2015.

Children’s

Liturgy of the Word

Our Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place every Sunday during our 9 a.m. Mass.

Just prior to the First Reading, children in 1st through 3rd grade will be called forth to gather in the front of the altar. They will receive a blessing, then proceed with an adult leader to the chapel. There, they will hear approved versions of the readings for the Mass at a level they better understand and trained leaders will invite them to share their reflections on the Gospel. The children will be escorted back into church to join their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

For questions or to volunteer, contact Kathy Thomas at [email protected].

children come

REPORTER? As part of our Catholic commitment to safe environments, the Archdiocese recently updated its policies and training curriculum for mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect. These new policies reflect the Church’s commitment to always do more, as well as the new Pennsylvania laws that went into effect on December 31, 2014. If you are likely to come into direct contact with children, you may be a mandated reporter. The updated version of the Mandated Reporter training is up and

running. The training is required of all new paid and

non-paid staff, and volunteers who have regular contact

with children and youth.

To register please use the following link: https://

learning.childyouthprotection.org/login/index.php. Those who previously completed the Mandated Reporter Training either in person or via the online system are not required to retake the training—you should have received a copy of the Mandated Reporter brochure and acknowledgement form which needs to be signed and returned to the parish office.

Natural Family

Planning Class

It is not the antiquated and often-ineffective rhythm method. Modern NFP is a thoroughly researched, safe, medically effective and family-supportive method of fertility regulation which can be used either to postpone a pregnancy or to achieve one. It has been used effectively worldwide for over 20 years. Learning about your fertility also helps in appreciating it as a gift from God and in understanding yourself or your spouse better. These classes are especially helpful for those who are preparing to marry, or for couples already married who would like to learn NFP or to take a refresher course.

A class will be offered at St. Joseph Parish on May 16 and 23 (2 part course) from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Center’s Community Meeting Room. For more info, contact Chris Grove at [email protected] or call 610-322-4601 after 5 p.m. M-F or anytime on the weekend.
