The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And be-hold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." Mt. 28:16-20
The passage above is today's gospel reading and contains in one sentence the summary of our faith. This event takes place after the resurrection of Jesus and just prior to his ascension into Heaven. It is also the very last passage in Matthew's gospel and provides us with an insight into the true nature of God and the Church. On this Trinity Sunday it would do us well to consult the Catechism of the Catholic Church. "IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT" 232 Christians are baptized "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Before receiving the sacrament, they respond to a three-part question when asked to confess the Father, the Son and the Spirit: "I do." "The faith of all Christians rests on the Trinity." 233 Christians are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: not in their names, for there is only one God, the almighty Father, his only Son and the Holy Spirit: the Most Holy Trinity. 234 The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essential teaching in the "hierarchy of the truths of faith". The whole history of salvation is identical with the history of the way and the means by which the one true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, reveals himself to men "and rec-onciles and unites with himself those who turn away from sin". 237 The Trinity is a mystery of faith in the strict sense, one of the "mysteries that are hidden in God, which can never be known unless they are revealed by God". To be sure, God has left traces of his Trinitarian being in his work of creation and in his Revelation throughout the Old Testament. But his inmost Being as Holy Trinity is a mystery that is inaccessible to reason alone or even to Israel's faith before the Incarnation of God's Son and the sending of the Holy Spirit. Everything we do we do in the name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In every prayer we invoke the name of the Most Holy Trinity, when we enter the church we bless ourselves with holy water in the name of God recalling our own baptism. When we invoke the name of God we remember who the all powerful one is. Who the holy one is. Who the magnificent, loving, re-deeming, merciful one is. Remember that God loves you as he has revealed himself to you. In baptism you became his own and nothing and no one can snatch you from him. Even when we sin there is hope for He is greater than sin.

Los once discípulos fueron a Galilea, a la montaña a la que Jesús les había ordenado. Cuando todos lo vieron, lo adoraron, pero dudaron. Entonces Jesús se acercó y les dijo: "Todo el poder en el cielo y en la tierra me ha sido dado. Id, pues, y haced discípulos a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo, enseñándoles a observar todo lo que les he mandado. Y he aquí, yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo." Mateo 28: 16-20
El pasaje anterior es la lectura del evangelio de hoy y contiene en una oración el resumen de nuestra fe. Este evento ocurrió después de la resurrección de Jesús y justo antes de su ascensión al Cielo. También es el último pasaje en el evangelio de Mateo y nos proporciona una idea de la verdadera naturaleza de Dios y la Iglesia. En este domingo de la Santísima Trinidad nos haría bien consultar el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica. “EN EL NOMBRE DEL PADRE Y DEL HIJO Y DEL ESPÍRITU SANTO" 232 Los cristianos son bautizados "en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo". Antes de recibir el sacramento, responden a una pregunta de tres partes cuando se les pide que confiesen al Padre, al Hijo y al Espíritu: "Sí, quiero". "La fe de todos los cristianos descansa en la Trinidad". 233 Los cristianos son bautizados en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo: no en sus nombres, porque hay un solo Dios, el Padre Todopoderoso, su único Hijo y el Espíritu Santo: la Santísima Trinidad. 234 El misterio de la Santísima Trinidad es el misterio central de la fe y la vida cristianas. Es el misterio de Dios en sí mismo. Por lo tanto, es la fuente de todos los otros misterios de la fe, la luz que los ilumina. Es la enseñanza más fundamental y esencial en la "jerarquía de las verdades de la fe". Recuerda que Dios te ama tal como se te ha revelado. En el bautismo te convertiste en el suyo y nada y nadie puede arrebatarte de Él. Incluso cuando pecamos, hay esperanza de que Él es más grande que el pecado.
