“ Terrain Tech” features a rotary knob on the centre console allowing you

to select from five driving configurations: “Onroad” for sealed surfaces,

“ Offroad” for unsealed surfaces, “Low” for offroad support and for increasing

the shifting points, locking the middle differential for further optimised power

distribution between the front and rear axles along with locking the rear axle

to prevent the rear wheels from spinning on loose surfaces. | SO

situation and delivers ideal traction even on steep inclines.

with its multi-colour, high-resolution TFT display. The compass and altitude

The “Dynamic Light Assist” dynamic high-beam

control makes it possible to drive with permanent

high beam at speeds above 60 km/h without

dazzling oncoming traffic. Optimum illumination

of the road provides even greater safety when

speeds above 65 km/h, a camera recognises

when the vehicle unintentionally leaves the

marked lane. Once activated, the system provides

a warning by vibrating the steering wheel in the

luggage compartment lid to be opened without

contact. Briefly triggering the additional sensors

at the rear of the vehicle with a small foot

movement is sufficient. The key for the “Keyless

Access” opening and closing system provides

The ACC adaptive cruise control matches the speed to that of the vehicle

driving ahead within the system thresholds, for example when driving in the

city or on the motorway, and maintains the distance set. The “Front Assist”

area monitoring system registers that another vehicle is approached too

brake pressure that collision severity can in many cases be diminished or

Volkswagen better environmental properties than

its predecessor – from material production to

01 The technical structure of the hybrid

technology package facilitates the highest level

of vehicle robustness and occupant protection.

The hybrid module, which includes an electric

motor, is fitted between the combustion engine

and the automatic gearbox.

High performance with low fuel consumption: an

objective which the Touareg Hybrid1) consistently

pursues. The basis for this technology is a V6 TSI

petrol engine with 245 kW (333 bhp)1). This is

combined with a hybrid module with a 34.3 kW

(46 bhp)* electric motor. This enables the vehicle

to be driven purely electrically for a range of

approximately two kilometres and up to approxi-

mately 50 km/h – and, thus, emission free.

The energy accumulator is integrated in the spare

wheel recess – and has a protection box as an op-

timal safeguard. In the event of a rear collision,

impact forces are directed away from the battery

to the vehicle structure. | H

Whatever awaits you: the powerful engines in the new Touareg deliver

the right solution for almost any challenge. The five different engines are

distinguished by their enormous power output as well as their especially

efficient and economical energy management.

The details given on performance and consumption apply to the use of sulphur-free 95 RON premium fuel, in accordance with DIN EN 228. The fuel grade 95 RON unleaded containing a maximum of 10% ethanol (E10) may in principle be used. Detailed information on the compatibility of E10 fuels can be obtained via www.volkswagen.com or under www.dat.de/e10liste/e10vertraeglichkeit. 1) The SCR system contains an additional operating fluid which customers can refill themselves. style of the interior with the “Silver Lane” decora-

tive inserts for the dash panel, the door cladding

and the middle console. The style continues with
