students.

One of our mantra’s is, ‘You

Can Do It!”.

Mindsets are powerful block-

ers or enablers with learning

so hearing our students en-

courage each other with,

‘You can do it’ always puts a

smile on our faces.

Keep smiling!

Wow, what a hectic term it

has been!

The NSW Department of

Education reform agenda

continues to gather pace.

The department has been

implementing a range of re-

forms; Rural and Remote,

Great Teaching/Inspired

Learning, Every Student/

Every Success, Quality

Teaching/Successful Stu-

dents, Supported Students/

Successful Students, Local

Schools/Local Decisions, and

the Teacher and Principal

Award. These are just some

of the reforms which directly

affect us.

Along with these reforms are

the initiatives of Performance

and Development, School

Excellence Framework, the

Wellbeing Framework and

Strategic Financial Manage-

ment.

All of these reforms and initi-

atives require training and

professional learning so that

we can implement them ef-

fectively and meet accounta-

bility standards.

As you know my favourite

place is in the classroom with

our gorgeous learners. At

times, like this term, there are

days it is mandated that I am

absent to engage in profes-

sional learning around this

myriad of initiatives.

The positive is that NSW

places a very high priority on

their students. Adrian Picco-

li’s mantra for the DE is,

‘Student focused, locally driv-

en, evidenced based, in-

formed, innovative and high

performing’.

I thoroughly agree with his

ANZAC March in Walcha

On Saturday we went to Walcha to do the ANZAC march. Phoebe and I had to hold the

school banner and our arms were sore. We had to walk up a hill and I got tired but we made

it up. At the service we stood and listened and listened and listened. It was hard to see be-

cause there were lots of people. After the service we had to march again but this time we

marched down the hill and along the main street. Finally the marching was finished so we

had a play in the park.

Emily, year 4

On Saturday we went to Walcha to march. The first march was short. Then we listened to a

man tell stories about the war. After a while a boy collapsed because it was hot . Next we

sang songs about the men in the war. Then we had to march again and this time it was a

long march. Finally we stopped at the park. It was the end of the march. The parents talked

and we had fun playing in the park.

Charlotte, year 2

On Saturday we went into Walcha for the ANZAC march. First we lined up. Emily and I held

the Nowendoc school banner. We started to march, it was not hard. We walked down a hill

to the ANZAC place. There people talked a lot and we listened. At 11am aeroplanes flew

over us twice. I liked watching them. When all the talking was finished we did even more

marching. This time I was exhausted. My arms were so tired that I had to swap arms to keep

the banner up. My legs were tired too. I said to myself, ‘is it over yet?’ and finally it was.

Phoebe, year 3

Our New Painting Wheels

Patience is a virtue as the children have discovered. Waiting for the weather to im-

prove so they could try out our new art resources was a little like waiting for Santa but

the children coped admirably. As you can see the wait was worth it.

Thank You Paul Hicks

Being identified as a Rural and Remote Public School may confuse some locals who see

driving many kilometres to a service as a natural occurrence. But, as I have mentioned

in previous newsletters, our location is a major obstacle for our operation. Couriers will

not deliver here as they feel ‘it is not viable for their business’. This is a major frustra-

tion as regularly we have our orders delivered to Armidale, Tamworth or Walcha. So,

when we were notified that, our long awaited, new modular furniture for the library had

been delivered to Walcha we were, once again, frustrated. Mums, Belinda and Danielle

and myself attempted to do a pick up but due to the size of our parcels we made little

dent in the supplies.

Whilst working at school in the holidays I was pleasantly surprised by a visit from Paul

Hicks. Upon hearing of our plight, Paul kindly offered to pick up the surplus boxes from

Walcha and deliver them to the school. The next day, Paul arrived, eleven boxes in tow,

and helped me unload them.

The children were so excited to see their new furniture and extremely grateful to Paul.

The time they spent on creating their beautiful Thank You card for Paul was happily

passed and Emily and Parker were extremely proud to be able to present it to Paul.
