Welcome to spring! This is one of my favorite times of the year as the days get longer, flowers are blooming, and everyone seems to have an extra spring in their step. And this year, it will be a most welcome time for all of our AOII sisters who have weathered through a very long winter.

Spring is a time of some celebra-tions that are a great reminder of our sisterhood and the values that are important to all AOIIs.

In honor of our sisterhood and with our Panhellenic sisters we

celebrated International Badge Day on March 2. This celebration to honor sisterhood was started in 1997 by the National Panhellenic Conference. The inaugural campaign was titled “It’s as Simple as Wearing your Pin With Pride”. This year we celebrated our common sorority experience with the theme “Wear Your Letters on Your Heart”. It was great to see all of the photos of our collegiate and alumnae members proudly wearing their AOII badges.

International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 8. This day is celebrated extensively in many regions throughout the world to inspire women and cel-ebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. When I think of past achievements by outstanding women I think of our Founders Stella George Stern Perry, Elizabeth Heywood Wyman, Helen St. Clair Mullan, and Jessie Wallace Hughan. These four women had the foresight and vision to create an organization based on friendship for a lifetime that has lasted for 118 years, and is going strong. The values of our organization have helped many women, past and present, contribute to their own success and the world around them.

As the days and months get warmer, we encourage AOIIs and fraternity and sorority members everywhere to get out and serve your communities. Service was of constant interest to our Founders so many years ago when these women authored the purpose of Alpha Omicron Pi. As remembered by Stella George Stern Perry, one of AOII’s four Founders, “above all, we wanted a high and active special purpose to justify existence and a simple devotion to some worthy end.” Whether we are raising funds for arthritis, or supporting a local community service project, there is always an opportunity to unite all alumnae and collegians in celebration of this common purpose. There will be many more opportunities for celebrations throughout the spring as our collegiate and alumnae chapters will participate in recognition events. All of this will lead up to Convention in June where we will have the opportuni-ty to celebrate all the great successes of AOII over the last biennium!

On behalf of the Executive Board, have a great spring! We look forward to seeing you at Convention.

Gayle

Do you have photos toshare with us? This time of year is especially fun for photos! Greek awards, Greek Week, spring formals, Strike Out Arthritis! events, and other great happenings are going on at collegiate and alumnae chapters everywhere. The next issue of To Dragma is also in the works, and we love to share photos of our chapters in action. Photos like these from Epsilon Alpha Chapter/Penn State U, the Vancouver Alumnae Chapter, and Delta Chapter/Tufts U help us bring chapter activities to life as we communicate with sisters near and far.

Send any photos you’d like to see featured on social media, in The Piper or on our website to [email protected].

If you have special photos you’d like to see in To Dragma, send them to [email protected] and [email protected]. These photos can be used for both print and web but PLEASE NOTE: For a photo to be considered for the magazine, it must be 1 MB or larger in file size. The best practice is to send the original photo file; avoid sending photos that have been saved off of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or other social media. These types of files are compressed from being uploaded to a social network.
