Senior Volunteer

Senior Volunteers and JOCV trainees (Nov. 12)

Today 11(eleven) senior volunteers ended the training program of 35 days. JICA

Volunteer Program accepts the persons between the ages of 40 and 69 year’s

old as Senior Volunteer (SV). They are expected to make use of their solid

experiences, including specialized knowledge and technologies, cultivated over

long years for the developing countries. They will be dispatched to Cambodia,

The City of Nihonmatsu

↑City Hall ↑Mt. Adatara

NTC is located in the City of Nihonmatsu in Fukushima Prefecture. The City has

population of 57,000 and an area of 344km ² and once it had been a center of

this region with a castle which was built at more than 400 years ago.

The altitude is at 200m and the Abukuma River flows through. At both sides of

east and west the mountains locate and Mt. Adatara (1,699m, a volcano) is well

known among Japanese for the one of The Japanese Famous 100 Mountains.

There is a popular hot spring called “Dake-onsen” on the mountainside of Mt.

Adatara.

All activities of NTC depend on kind supports and cooperation by the people of

Nihonmatsu. This month a group of the citizens in Nihonmatsu will receive young

leaders from Malaysia of the Basic (Primary and Secondary) Education

Administration and they will stay here about 2 weeks. (Photos taken on Nov. 8)

Language Training

Language training is the main subject in the training program at NTC. Now, it

holds 11 language courses such as, Indonesian, Malay, Arabic, French,

Portuguese, Khmer, Thai, Lao, Mongolian, Swahili and English. The trainees

seem to enjoy their language classes but they have to pass the examination at

the end of the training program for JICA to finally decide their dispatch. (Photos taken

Morning Assembly

Every day NTC starts with Morning Assembly at 6:30 AM and hoists the flags of

Japan, JICA, JOCV and the National flag of each country which trainees are to

be dispatched to with the national anthem. This morning the flag of the

Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste was hoisted in the air of Fukushima. After

this, the trainees run around NTC as part of physical training.

The Training Just Started

NTC got a total of 147 trainees as candidates of the JICA volunteer program and

held the admission ceremony. Training program continue the following 70 days

for the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCVs) and 35 days for the

Senior Volunteers. And then, they’re dispatched to 23 countries after the

Training Program.
