Traction Motor type TM3801AZ is a dc series wound, four pole, self ventilated machine suitable for axle mounting on sleeve bearings. It is supported on the nose by a resilient suspension unit. CONSTRUCTIONAL DETAILS:MAGNET FRAME:The high permeability cast cum fabricated steel magnet frame is machined to ensure alignment of the end shields, pole bores and axle ways.The cast cum fabricated steel axle caps are machined with frame. The poles are built up from steel laminations riveted together. The main field coils are made of copper strap wound on flat, whereas the compole coil is edge wound. The coils are insulated with Class "H" insulating materials and vacuum pressure impregnated in high temperature moisture resistant class "H" Solventless Polyester varnish. 3-phase traction motor type 6FRA6068 INTRODUCTION:The application of traction motor type 6FRA6068 is for goods locomotives WAG9 & passenger locomotive type WAP7. Based on technology of ABB received through CLW, BHEL has indigenized the above motor for 6000HP 25KV 3-phase drive AC locomotives.These motors will be used for driving the special class of

6000 HP AC locomotives with 3-phase drive system being manufactured in India for the first time to ABB, Switzerland technology. With technology advancements in the field of power electronics, GTO based converter- inverter drives have been developed for traction application which can feed variable voltage variable frequency supply to the induction motors and achieve precise speed and torque which is essential for traction application.In original ABB design motor there was some inherent design problems, which caused rotor overheating in Indian operating conditions. But BHEL has further modified the design of rotor from MIG welding type to brazed type. THE SPECIAL FEATURES:

These motors are in service for the last 10-12 years and in this period many cases have been seen of inadequate starting torque during the loco operating at high gradients.Based on requirement from RDSO/CLW to solve the problem of inadequate tractive effort situation being faced in present design locomotives due to which there is haulage failure at high gradients with loaded rakes, Traction machines Engineering Division, BHEL, Bhopal has developed a new design of high torque version of 3 phase induction motor for traction application for 6000 HP 3 phase drive electric loco, without any change in the continuous performance of the motor.  Special Features:

This motor is suitable for working with variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) convertor supply upto 132 Hz.It is a class 200 insulated motor impregnated in solventless polyesterimide resin system.The rotor has a brazed squirrel cage for robust construction.The stator winding is with high quality Kapton insulated oxygen free copper conductor.Bearing assemblies are suitable for tough loading condition and lubricated with traction quality grease.The outgoing leads of star connected stator are terminated on a terminal box provided on top surface of the motor.

These motors shall be used on 4000 HP AC locos type WAG4 for freight application in Indian Railways. These locos are based on 3 phase drive technology. Six motors are required per loco.BHEL shall be designing the AC traction motor type IM4507AZ to suit the drive requirement of WDG4 loco.

13-PHASE TRACTION MOTOR TYPE DMKT 53/42 GENERAL:-The motor type DMKT 53/42 is a 6 pole, 3 phase, star connected, self ventilated squirrel cage induction motor mounted on axle with roller bearing arrangement and suspended on nose. These motors have been used on the dual voltage EMUs. Four motors are required per EMU rake. This motor is designed and developed jointly with M/s TRAXIS of Holland.

The weight of DMKT 53/42 is approximately 25% less and power is more by 59% compared to the DC motor in use as a result the power to weight ratio has doubted.DMKT 53/42 traction motor is designed with class 200 insulation system and is VPI treated with solventless silicone resin. The stator punchings are made from low loss high permeability sheet steel which are stacked and shrink fitted in the stator housing. The stator coils are made from polyamide covered conductors which are housed in the stator slots using polyamide slot liners.The rotor punchings also use the low loss high permeability sheet steel. The rotor punchings are stacked on the shaft directly. The short ckt. Rings are induction brazed to the rotor bars. Fans are fitted on DE and NDE ends for provision of self ventilation.The traction motor has been provided with a terminal box and is axle hung nose suspended in the bogie. The transmission is through single reduction gear and it is housed in a gear case.

TG 4302AZ TRACTION GENERATOR FOR BGDE SHUNTING LOCO

INTRODUCTION:

The TG4302AZ Traction Generator IS A 6 pole, high speed, specially excited DC machine with commutating poles. A series winding incorporated in the main poles, enables diesel engine stating when connected across locomotive battery. The main field is dived into two sections called separately excited field and battery field. The battery field is excited from the battery, and provided initial flux, which will enable proper self-excitation to the initial operating range of generator characteristics.

The generator is directly coupled and mounted onto the diesel engine. While coupling the TG4302AZ Traction Generator to diesel engine, special frame mounting bolts (16 Nos. of M12 x 122) & special fan coupling screw (10 Nos. of 5/8” 18 UNF) are to be used. These special hardware is supplied along with each traction generator.

Kapton insulated armature coils are housed in the slots and held in position by fiber glass slot wedges driven into the slots.

End windings are held in position by resiglass bands.

Equaliser coils are placed on the commutator hub at appropriate time of winding.

210 KW TRACTION GENERATOR TYPE TG4302BY FOR 350HP MG DEMU

INTRODUCTION:

The traction generator type TG4302BY is coupled with diesel engine of CIL make and is installed in driving power coach (DPC) of meter gauge diesel electric multiple unit (MG DEMU).

The TG4302BY traction generator is a 6 pole, high speed, separately excited DC machine with commutating poles. A series winding incorporated in the main poles, enables diesel engine starting when connected across locomotive battery. The main field is dividend into two sectioned called separately excited field and battery field. The battery field is excited from the battery, and provided initial flux which will enable proper self excitation to the initial operating range of generator characteristics.

ARMATURE

High quality armature laminations are pressed onto the alloy steel shaft, and held in between the armature end plate and the commutator hub. Kapton insulated armature coils are housed in the slots and held in position by fibre glass slot wedges.

The armature and equalizer coil are TIG welded to the commutator risers. The fully insulated armature is subjected to vacuum pressure impregnation in a solventless polyesterimide resin and armature is then sprayed/ brush coated with solventless silicone based finishing paint.

After final impregnation, the commutator subjected to dynamic seasoning and fine finishing the micas are undercut and the commutator bar edges are beveled for smoother brush riding.

The commutator end of the armature is supported by a double row spherical roller bearing. The bearing can take a certain amount of misalignment and end thrust.

 MAGNET FRAME AND FIELD COILS.

The magnet frame is fabricated from rolled steel plates and accurately machined to hold the field system in position.The main pole bodies alongwith main field coils are fastened with high tensile steel bolts, whereas the compole bodies with coils are fastened to magnet frame with stainless steel (non-magnetic bolts).

BRUSH GEAR

The brush gear arrangement is made with fixed arms, whose position is fixed at the time of manufacture. The brush holders are 100 trailing type suitable for DC generator for better commutating ability, adjustable over serrated spacers to maintain the specified gap between commutator and brush holder.
