Tips to Get Your Move On
(NewsUSA) - Youre excitedto start living in your newhome, but before you startdecorating, entertaining or
relaxing with coffee in yournew breakfast nook, you haveto move your possessionsfrom point A to point B.But with a little planning,
you can make your movewithout shattering yourgreat grandmothers vase orslipping a disc while carryingkitchen appliances.
PakMail (www.pakmail.com),
a company that specializes inpacking, custom crating andshipping, offers the followingtips to help you get your moveon:
* Give yourself more time thanyou think you need. It doesntseem like you have thatmuch stuff -- until its timeto neatly organize everythinginto cardboard boxes and
load them into moving vans. You will probably need at
least a month to pack. Startby going through your roomsand taking a quick inventory
-- figure out what you need topack, and what youd ratherfreecycle.
* Make sure you have plentyof packing materials. You willneed more boxes than youexpect. Make sure that youhave 10 new boxes for last-minute additions. Other usefulitems include thick markers,
bubble wrap, packing tape
and foam wrap. PakMail sellsa full line of shipping supplies, including boxes, bubble wrap, foam wrap, tape, labels, kits, packing peanuts and sealingtubes. PakMail also offerscustom packaging for oddlyshaped items.
* Choose the right box foryour item. Heavy objects, like books, should always
go in smaller boxes. Certainitems, such as mattresses ormirrors, may require specialpackaging. Its always bestto ask an expert. Try to keep
boxes under 30 pounds.
* Organize your packing. Asyoure packing, assign eachbox a number. Create a listwhere you record everything
that was put in each box. Also, decide where the boxes shouldgo. For example, if boxes onethrough three contain DVDs,
books and video games, makesure they end up in your newliving room.
* Dont forget your suitcase!Make sure you have enoughclothes and toiletries to lastthree days in your suitcase,
so you dont have to buy newclothes if you cant unpack
your wardrobe immediately.Never pack importantpersonal documents, medications or valuables --keeping them with you willprovide easy access, not tomention help prevent theft orloss.
Women, Its Not Your
Fault That Youre GainingWeight
(NewsUSA) - Many womenreport the same story -- after
menopause, they gain weightaround their abdomen, nomatter how little they eat orhow much they exercise.
These women arent goinginsane -- research suggeststhat menopause causes
weight gain. According toDr. Caroline J. Cederquist,M.D., designer of the BistroM.D. weight-loss program,
a recent animal experimentrevealed a link betweenchanging estrogen levelsand weight gain. Whenestrogen levels dropped inthe brain, laboratory animalsgained weight around theirabdomens, even when fedthe same amount of food.
Why? The animals developedinsulin resistance, a metaboliccondition that signals the
body to store carbohydratesas fat, rather than use them tofuel muscles.
Insulin resistance develops inmost people as they age, but
women experience the onsetmore dramatically than mendue to the hormonal changesof menopause, explains Dr.Cederquist.
Unfortunately, insulinresistance can negativelyaffect womens health.Insulin resistance causes
yet more insulin resistance,as the fat that accruesin the abdomen secreteshormones that encouragemore fat storage, whichincreases insulin resistance.
Abdominal fat increases the
risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, strokeand several types of cancer.
Abdominal fat increases badcholesterol, lowers goodcholesterol and releasesinflammatory hormones thatcontribute to heart disease.
Hormone replacementtherapy does not help -- but
dietary changes can helpmenopausal women manage

Tips to Plan a Fun FamilyReunion
(NewsUSA) - As extendedfamilies spread out throughoutthe country, it becomes moredifficult to get everyone
together. Holding a familyreunion, then, gives everyonea chance to meet, catch-up andlearn a little more about theirfamily history.
But arranging a reunion can bea massive undertaking, and itseasy to become overwhelmed. However, with a littleplanning, anyone can pull off asuccessful family reunion.
Follow these tips to ensure afun, rewarding family reunionexperience:
* Create a family reunioncommittee. You will needat least two people to planlocation, food, activities,
budget, mailings, paymentsand record-keeping. The betterorganized your committee, themore smoothly your reunion
will run. You can never startplanning too early -; you willneed to start at least a yearahead of time * Pick a theme.Designing your reunion
around a theme can makeplanning activities, food anddecorations more creative.Family history themes, sucha celebrating an anniversary,a birthday or a culturalheritage -; a Mexican fiesta, forexample -; are always popular.
* Develop a budget. Yourbudget will influence the restof your decisions regardinghousing, food and activities.
When in doubt, plan foraffordability -; as much fun asa Caribbean cruise might be,its unlikely that every family
member can afford to attend.
* Plan housing. If possible, choose a location that offersa range of lodging choices.National parks, for example, often have hotels nearby andmay have cabins or tent-camping available, giving yourguests plenty of options.
* Keep the kids entertained.Dont presume that the
grandparents or teenagers willact as babysitters for the wholereunion. Ask for volunteers, and rotate babysitting duties.
Arranging competitions, likethree-legged and costumeraces, will keep kids happy.
You can even present thewinner with a trophy -;Plaquemaker Plus (www.plaquemakerplus.com) offersa variety of trophies, includingTrophy Dudes with bendablearms and legs.
* Create activities. Adultsmight be content to sit around
and chatter, but integratingthe whole family can be achallenge. Try giving eachfamily member a family treeto fill out, or arrange a friendlygame of family trivia. Anddont forget to take a familyphoto. Plaquemaker Plus caneven create heirloom-quality
wooden plaques or acrylicimages, so you can offer aunique souvenir to any familymember who wants one.
