BUSING REINSTATED AT
REED CITY
REED CITY School buses will be rollinggain this fall in Reed City but its going
o come at a cost. At a special meeting held Thursday
he Reed City Area Public Schools Boardof Education agreed to reinstate busingfor the 2011-12 school year. The boardsigned a three-year contract with MichiganEducation Transportation Services ofGrand Rapids to provide busing serviceso the district.
Because of concerns from parents inhe community, we decided to reinstateusing, said board Treasurer Scottidderman. We did a large survey ande got a good response from the people
n our district and what they needed as fars transportation goes.
Under the new contract, the districtsransportation budget will be $816,542
about $250,000 less than last years.Items under the revised busing budgetnclude $78,000 for gas, $80,000 for repairarts, $20,528 for insurance and $75,953
or a full-time mechanic. A letter announcing the busing
einstatement will be sent to parentsoday.
A copy of the letter that will be sentome to parents on Friday.A route schedule with times and pickup
ocations will be released in the districtsugust newsletter.
RCAPS Superintendent SteveWesthoff was pleased to announce thereturn of busing to the district.
We understand that in manyfamilies there was an extreme needfor transportation to and from school,Westhoff said. We listened to thoseconcerns and will now be able to transporttheir students to school and home again.
Citizens have suggested thecancellation of the transportation programwas an exercise used to manipulatepublic opinion in some way.
If this was some sort of exercise, itcertainly is one I dont want to ever takepart in again, Westhoff said. Its ridiculousto say this was an exercise. A stunningamount of work went into trying to findcreative solutions to the problems involvedin getting students to and from schoolwithout an organized busing program.
We have managed to resolve oneproblem, but we still have significantudget problems in our district.
We found a way to make ourransportation program work for now. Weistened to the people of this communitynd the board acted accordingly.

BEFORE SUMMER FUN,
MAKE SURE YOUR
VEHICLE CAN HANDLE
THE HEAT|(NewsUSA) - If you ask anyone, whethert be your friends, your neighbors or yourolleagues, all will tell you the best thingsbout summer are the surf and the sun!
For many of us, a day at the beach is like
a mini-vacation, but if youre not prepared, our lovely day trip can turn into yourorst nightmare! The team at Firestone

Make sure your vehicles fluids and
filters are fresh and the air conditioneris working properly, as this will helpkeep your vehicle cool in the summerheat.
Avoid overloading your vehicle, astoo much weight in the vehicle candecrease your gas mileage and createexcessive heat inside your tires. When driving on sand, point yourvehicles wheels straight ahead whenstarting off. This will help reduce theeffort required by your vehicle to moveforward. If you get stuck in the sand, reverse out.Gently reverse on your own tracks andthen try to slowly move forward again. Before trying to reverse out, removesand build-up from behind the tires orunder your vehicle.Once you get home, remove all tracesof sand, dirt or salt from your vehicleafter a beach trip. When hosing yourvehicle, pay special attention to areaslike the mudguards and any othernooks and crannies where sand canget trapped.Make sure to check your tire pressureon all four tires and your spare at leastonce per month and before every longtrip. Be certain to keep them at therecommended pressure level.

HYBRID CARS: THE
PERFORMANCE CARS OFTHE FUTURE
(NewsUSA) - When most people thinkof hybrid cars, they imagine practical,mild-mannered vehicles. But could wesomeday see hybrid racecars burning upthe tracks?
In March of 2010, Porsche (www.porsche.com/usa/) unveiled three hybridsat the Geneva Auto Show: one for theroad; one for the race track; and one thatis a genuine Porsche supercar. Theseinnovative new Porsches -- the CayenneS Hybrid, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid and the
918 Spyder -- show that hybrids can besporty, fast and powerful.
The Cayenne S, Porsches firstproduction hybrid car, features asophisticated parallel full hybrid systemwith the combined power of a 380horsepower V6 combustion engine andan electric motor. The car has the potentialto significantly enhance fuel economy athigh speeds -- when the driver lifts off theaccelerator at cruising or highway speeds, the gasoline engine can be switchedoff and disengaged from the drivetrain. This enables the vehicle to move withoutcombustion or electric power.
The GT3 Rs innovative hybridtechnology has been developed especiallyfor racing. The front axle features two
powerful electric motors that supplementthe cars 480 horsepower, naturallyaspirated four-liter flat-six that drives therear wheels. Instead of the heavy batteries
found in hybrid road cars, an electricalflywheel power generator resides next tothe driver to deliver energy to the electricmotors. The 911 GT3 R Hybrid competedin the 24 Hours on the Nordschleife ofNrburgring in May 2010, leading for eighthours before retiring after 22 hours and15 minutes for mechanical reasons. Inthe 2010 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta itfinished 18th out of a starting field of 41cars.
With the 918 Spyder high-performancemid-engine concept hybrid sports car,Porsche is displaying its expertise in thefield of highly efficient and low-emissiondrive technology. The 918 Spyder prototypewith plug-in hybrid technology combineshigh-tech performance features withelectric mobility to produce a fascinatingrange of qualities. It has an ultra-compactcars emission levels of 70 grams of CO2per kilometer, and it consumes just threeliters of fuel per 100 kilometers, but can gofrom 0 to 62 mph in just under 3.2 secondsand reach a top track speed over 198mph.
2011 NEW YEARS
RESOLUTION: START
TAKING BETTER CARE OF
YOUR VEHICLE
(NewsUSA) - While we might slip up onour New Years resolutions at times, thisyear you can resolve to take better care ofyour car all year. Firestone Complete AutoCare offers the following tips for wintervehicle maintenance to get you started!
Be proactive. Winter only magnifiesexisting problems like pings, hard starts, sluggish performance or rough idling.Make sure your vehicle is mechanicallysound before the temperature dips and
the streets get icy. Make certain theengine is in peak condition. Also checkthe cooling system. Coolant should bereplaced per the vehicle manufacturersmaintenance schedule.Be on schedule. Have your motor oilchanged regularly. Use the specifiedweight and grade of oil recommendedby your vehicle manufacturer. Alsomake sure to check that the heating/defrosting system is working properly.Be prepared. Prepare for potentialwinter emergencies by using yourtrunk as a storage place for emergencyitems. Important items to have onhand include: a properly inflated spare
tire; ice scraper; windshield de-icer;flashlight; blanket; extra clothes; bottledwater; cell phone car charger and non-perishable snacks.Be on the defensive. Take a defensiveposition against winter drivingconditions, and take care of your tires.Once it gets cold, tire tread and pressureshould be checked weekly. A tires PSImeasurement can drop one pound forevery 10-degree drop in temperature. If snow and ice are a problem in yourarea, consider installing winter tires, which are specially designed to gripslick roads.
Be diligent. Use common sense duringadverse road conditions. Reduceyour driving speed, and increase your
following distance in hazardous winteweather. If you get stuck in the snow, dont spin your tires -- this can overheathem and possibly cause damage.
Use sand, gravel, kitty litter, an asphalshingle or other gritty items to help youtires gain traction when stuck.
THIS SEASON, DONT
LET PUMP PRICES PUT
A DAMPER ON YOUR
HOLIDAY FUN
By Trisha Hessinger For NewsUSA|(NewsUSA) - Its easy to get caught up inthe holiday hubbub when youre runningaround looking for the perfect gift. Whil
the holidays can be expensive, there arways to save. Firestone Complete AutCare offers the following tips to help yousave money at the gas pump so you canfocus on your holiday celebrations.
Slow Down and Get Some AirVehicles use less fuel the slower theytravel. While staying within the speedlimits, try dropping your highway speedby 10 mph to see big savings at thpump.Calm down. According to the U.S.Department of Energy, aggressivdriving can lower your gas mileage by
33 percent on the highway and bypercent in the city.
Fuel UpBuy the right fuel. Look in your vehiclesowners manual for the correct octanlevel for your vehicles engine. Oddsare that it will be regular unleaded, since fewer than 5 percent of thvehicles on the road require the use opremium fuel.
Drop Some PoundsExtra weight in your vehicle makes iwork harder, hence less fuel mileage.
According to the U.S. Department oEnergy, an extra 100 pounds in the ca
can reduce a vehicles fuel economyby up to 2 percent. If you have a trunkfull of junk, empty it out for better fueleconomy.
The holiday season can stretch youwallet pretty thin. By following just a fesmall steps, youll have more to spend onholiday festivities.
BE PREPARED! BACK-
TO-SCHOOL TIME IS LICE
SEASON
(NewsUSA) - Parents need to be preparedfor back-to-school season as 85 percenof all school districts report at least onoutbreak a year. The Centers for DiseasControl and Prevention states that mosof the 12 million cases occur in preschooland elementary-school-aged children.
Fortunately, parents can now help tprevent head lice using natural, safe andeffective ingredients. A recent study by FairyTales Hair Care showed that rosemary, citronella, tea tree and lavender oils werover 93 percent effective in preventinghead lice. Daily use of shampoos andsprays help keep the fragrance fresh onthe childs hair and keep lice away.
In addition to natural products, Fairy

helmets. Keep long hair up in a pony
tail or braid.
Lice like clean hair -- not dirty! Dont
shampoo every day, and use products
to coat the hair shaft making it hard for
a louse to attach to it.
Do weekly head checks. Sit undera bright light and comb through tiny
sections of the hair -- focusing on the
hot spots, such as the back of neck,
behind ears and the part lines. Nits
(eggs) will be grayish in color and glued
? inch from the top of the hair shaft. If
it is hard to remove, it is a nit and not
dandruff.
Lice-removal treatments are now
available that are more effective and
safer than traditional over-the-counter
products. Enzymes dissolve the nit
glue so eggs/nits wash out easily
and kill live bugs on contact. Enzymes
work on the new breed of super lice
as well. Lice Good-Bye can be usedrepeatedly, allowing parents to safely
remove lice and get children back to
school quickly and lice free.

BALANCING ACT: TIPS
FOR ADULT LEARNERS
JUGGLING THE
RESPONSIBILITIES OF
WORK AND
(NewsUSA) - Balancing work and the
commitment of earning an advanceddegree can be daunting. But it is a reality
many adult learners face as they continue
their education while juggling personal,
family and financial responsibilities.
The good news is that there are many
tips and resources available to help ease
stress and make balancing work and
school manageable.1. Capitalize on flexible class
scheduling. An increasing number of
colleges and universities are tailoring
education to suit working students
schedules. DeVry University, for example,
offers flexible scheduling in a mix and
match format that allows students to
enroll in a combination of onsite or online
courses during the day or evening, based
on convenience.
2. Make a schedule and stay
organized. A calendar that outlines
upcoming work and school projects,
meetings and deadlines takes little time to
create and can make a busy schedule feel
under control.Time management is an essential
quality and core competency for most
professionals, and this will be a good
test of ones mettle, explained Jeffrey
Greenberg, director of career services for
DeVry University. This skill gets easier
over time and will ensure that your work
does not pile up, preventing you from
meeting deadlines.
3. Address your stress. The weight of
multiple obligations can be overwhelming.
Its important to take breaks to obtain a
fresh perspective. Exercise and social
interaction provide the perfect opportunity
to relieve stress and refocus your thoughts,
allowing you to return to coursework with aclear mind and renewed sense of energy.
4. Take advantage of your schools
resources. The network of classmates and
professors your school offers can provide
support and advice for balancing work and
school. The economic recession has led
many schools to launch career services
departments or strengthen existing ones.5. Create a support network.
Harness the support of friends and family,
and see if they can help you accomplish
your goals. This support could be
something as simple as meeting with a
roommate to plan household chores or
meals for the month.
It is important to remember that the
hard work and sacrifice required to
balance work and school often lead to
career success.
ALWAYS THE
BRIDESMAID? YOU CAN
WEAR THE DRESSES
AGAIN
(NewsUSA) - And youll be able to
wear it again! is a phrase often used
around bridesmaids dresses. Because a
ridiculously expensive lime-green taffeta
shepherdess gown is appropriate for
almost any occasion, and the Peter Pan
collar is poised to make a comeback any
century now.
If youre one of the many women who
has piles of Pepto-Bismol-colored ruffles
stuffed in the back of her closet, never fear
-; you will be able to wear that dress again.
Host an old bridesmaids dress party, and
the good times may even blot out the
embarrassment of having had to wear tha
dress in the first place.
Where to start? The concept is simple
-- invite all of your girlfriends over, and
tell them to wear their most hideous
bridesmaid dress. Not only will you ge
to rewear the bridesmaids dresses oweddings past, youll also get to laugh a
some of the more hideous outfits. Note:
if you were a bridesmaid at a friends
wedding, either dont invite her or try not to
wear the dress she chose, even if it does
include a tutu and puffed sleeves.
Adding an inexpensive spin to classic
elegance is the way to go. Skip the chips
and dip in favor of a fruit-and-cheese platter.
For a refreshing twist on champagne,
the traditional wedding libation, pick up
a few bottles of a fruit-flavored sparkling
wine. Arbor Mist (arbormist.com), which is
known for fruit and wine combinations like
Strawberry White Zinfandel and Blackberry
Merlot, has recently released a line osparkling wines. Both the Peach Sparkle
and the Raspberry Sparkle combine ligh
and crisp sparkling wine with natural fruit,
creating the perfect refreshment for a get-
together with your girlfriends.
For entertainment, ask each woman to
tell the story behind her bridesmaid dress.
You can also have fun playing a wedding-
themed round of Pictionary or charades.
You can also hold a vote to find out, for
once and for all, which one of you had to
endure the wearing the worst bridesmaid
dress.

wines, visit www.arbormist.com.

This beautiful camper is in excellent condition used spar-
ingly since purchased new. Only one owner. Sleeps 2-3
adults, or 2 adults and 2 children. Comes with sway bar,
heavy duty hitch, electric jack, and level. Has a wet bath-
room, desk, dinette, full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven,
and many cabinets for storage. Everything works perfectly
and is very clean. Has propane heat with a thermostat, air
conditioner, and electronic panel for checking fresh, gray, and
black water levels. Is approximately 6000-6500lbs when fully
loaded. Tows beautifully, you'll forget it's back there. The
International CCD is the higher end of the Airstream trailers,
so this trailer is built to last and has beautiful finishes. More
photos available upon request. Please contact John at(231)592-8352 for more information, or plea
