stel,” sê hy.Bok Radio se hoof-uitvoerende beampte,

In just over three months, a private Face-book dating group has burst at the se-ams, with just under 18 000 members joi-

ning. The “Dunoon singles find someone you

love” grouphasattractedmembers fromallover South Africa.

The phenomenal interest has not surpri-sed co-founder Tdo’o Ferrarie.

“Every morning I have more than 60 re-quests from people wanting to join,” hetells TygerBurger.

Last week alone more than 2 500 mem-bers joined.

What started reasonably slowly for himand his partner Karabo Thejane, quicklyescalated.

In the beginning the two friends wereable to screen every request, but now theyreceive somany that they simply allowpeo-ple to join. Every day more than 100 re-quests flood their inbox.

The founders made several stringent ru-les when they started the group, the mostimportant, according to Ferrarie, being ru-le number one: “Rule number one is to ne-ver break any of the rules,” he insists.

“We also don’t want people to fight theirfights in public. Go do it privately.”

One of his main gripes with what hastranspired recently is people posting por-nographic photos on the site, which is obvi-ously against the rules.

“If someone posts something tasteless onthe site then everyone sees it. We removethe photo and ban the member,” he says.

Unfortunately, in that time many unsus-pecting members might have seen the pho-

to and the damage has been done.Maintaining control is an issue the foun-

ders struggle with daily.Ferrarie says they hired two women to

help them a while ago, but they didn’t dowhat they were told.

The site has been set up for people to findcompanions, but there is nothing stoppinga person who has already found someonefrom joining.

Asked about how he marketed the group,Ferrarie said he went on to other datingFacebook sites based in Cape Town andspread the word on those groups.

Just a few minutes later and requests tojoin the Dunoon group flooded in, becauseother similar sites “are simply too slow”.

Well established Facebook groups thatshare vital community news struggle to re-ach 10 000 members, so perhaps everyonecan take a leaf out of Ferrarie and Theja-ne’s book.

The age-old adage that “sex sells” mightwhat fuels the interest.

This is, however, more than just a datingsite, says Ferrarie.

“This is great for the Dunoon communi-ty, because it brings all of us closer toge-ther. People know one another much betternow. Suddenly people I have never metknow where I live.”

This year international marketing firmJana asked 18 to 30-year-olds where theylook for a date or love. A study measuredanswers from 1 500 people across ninecountries, including South Africa.

Facebook was at the top of all of the lists, sometimes by a huge margin.

Facebook might not have been intendedto be dating site, but it has clearly beenused for this purpose.

Dunoon dating sitebursts at the seams

Nuwe boek van Wendy weer ’n trefferANDRÉ BAKKES

@andrebakkes

My nuutste ene is Vertel vir my ’n Storie,”antwoord sy.

My verhaleword nou in skoolhand-boeke opgeneem en asbiblioterapie gebruik.”

rians after the money was raised at a re-cent Bingo Night, which is held everymonth on the first Tuesday at the nearbyItalian Club. The home’smanager, Alet Bosman, is al-

ways over the moon when someone helpsthem, but she emphasises that the rotari-ans give themmuchmore than justmoney.“They also have excellent advice on awi-

de range of subjects. Many of their mem-bers are experts in their field,” says Bos-man.“We have a very good relationship with

some of these organisations, and quitefrankly, we would have to close our doorswere it not for them.”The money, which was recently handed

over to Bosman, will be used for operatio-nal costs and to spoil their residents witha Christmas dinner.“To everyone out there, you canalsohelp

make this Christmas and NewYearmemo-rable for our residents by donating some-thing,” concludes Bosman.Marius Boraine from the Rotary Club

says they have a long history with the ho-me for the disabled based in Sandrift.“This is, however, the first Bingo Night

where the proceeds went to Eric Miles. Weencourage the public to help us help othersby joining our Bingo Nights,” he says. For more information about the nights,

Jail time, serious injuries, death and alifetime of regretmight await you if youresort to road rage, warns ER24 spokes-

person Chitra Bodasing.“Almost every motorist has experienced

some sort of frustration while driving butit is how far you take it that could mean thedifference between life and death,” shesays.“Road rage is a criminal offence. Anyone

found harassing motorists on the road willbe charged. They could face charges suchreckless and negligent driving, harassmentand others depending on the seriousness ofthe crime.”If amotorist is harassed, they should take

down the registration number of the vehi-cle driven by the suspect and call the police.“Do not retaliate. This could aggravate

the situation. You can get killed,” she says. She refers to a recent incident to which

ER24 responded.“The two drivers had an altercation and

they stopped at an intersection. One driverclimbed out of his vehicle and assaulted theothermotorist. As hewalked back to his carthe other driver drew his firearm and shothim in the chest. He died on scene,” she

says.Henning Jacobs, the trauma support co-

ordinator at ER24, urges people to stay calmand do as little as possible if provoked. He says road rage incidents are preventa-

ble if people do not act out of anger. He advises drivers to enter their vehicles

in a peaceful frame ofmind prior to driving.“Music helps some people. Breathing

exercises can also help you stay calm,” saidJacobs.According to Jacobs road rage is linked

to people experiencing personal orwork-re-lated problems. “When people experiencetrauma or stress they are flooded with fee-lings and emotion. When people do not venttheir feelings or do not have coping mecha-nisms in place, these feelings and emotionsbuild up. A road incident can trigger all ofthose emotions at once,” he said. These emotions can lead to road rage.“Therefore, road rage can be prevented if

people have coping skills in place and met-hods to help vent their feelings. Road ragemay be prevented if people obtain properhelp for their mental or emotional pro-blems. See a counsellor or psychologist,” hesaid.

Happy Feet, the juvenile penguin whocaptured the hearts of TygerBurgerreaders, is on the road to recovery.

He will spending Christmas at the Sout-hern African Foundation for the Conserva-tion of Coastal Birds (Sanccob) along with445 other abandoned African penguinchicks rescued from around the Pensinsu-la.

Every year between October and Janua-ry, Sanccob helps hundreds of African pen-guin chicks abandoned by their parentswhen they start their annual moulting cy-cle.

During this time the parents replacetheir “tuxedo” with a new set of waterprooffeathers and are unable to hunt for fish andfeed their young during the three to fourweek moulting process.

As a result, the chicks yet to fledge, likeHappy Feet, are abandoned and face starva-tion unless conservation organisations likeSanccob intervene.

On Christmas day, Happy Feet will havean enriching meal of sardines fed to him byhis carers.

During the day he will be kept hydratedthrough regular administration of freshwater and special electrolyte fluids.

He will get his strength back through dai-ly doses of vitamins and hone his swim-ming skills in the pool, so that he will befit and ready for release back into the wild.

In the evening he will sleep in a comfyheated pen with soft matting.

As a gesture of thanks to Happy Feet’srescuer, Liezl Bestbier from Melkbos-strand, Sanccobhas adoptedHappyFeet forLiezl.

Other readers who would like to supportthe other 445 tiny chicks at Sanccob canAdopt and name a penguin for R500 by visi-ting www.sanccob.co.za.

Readers will receive a photograph of

their chick, a certificate of adoption, athank you letter and a sticker that says ‘Iadopted an African penguin’. The proceedsgo directly towards saving these chicks andpays for their food, medication, care and sa-fe transport back to the colonies.

Sanccob rehabilitation manager NickyStander said if you find a seabird in dis-tress, you shouldn’t crowd around it as sea-birds react very negatively to stress. If youare able to approach the bird quietly, gentlyand firmly wrap it in a bathing towel andcall Sanccob on 021 557 6155 or the 24-hourcall line on 078 638 3731.

Learners with their certificates after completing the Nceduluntu Academy training.

ANDRÉ BAKKES@andrebakkes

Tembile Nyoka from Dunoon is still con-tributing as best he can to the localcommunity, despite ongoing challen-

ges.The demand for Nyoka’s non-profit orga-

nisation (NPO), Nceduluntu Academy of Le-arning, remains high for all those who wantto brush up on their computer literacy.

Due to lack of funding and facilities, Nyo-ka has to pay thousands of rands a monthfrom his own pocket to keep things tickingalong.TygerBurger reported on his NPO in Fe-

bruary this year in the article entitled “Ma-king difference in lives of locals”.

Back then Nyoka asked readers for se-cond-hand computers, andpeople respondedkindly, but almost 10 months later the acade-my is still running at a loss.

“We need someone to connect our currentcomputers to the internet, because we areforced to go to a local internet café to givethe students the practical lessons theyneed,” says Nyoka.

This year 42 students used every opportu-nity they could by going to the internet caféand ultimately managed to complete thecourse.

“We have to book our time at the café inadvance,” says Nyoka, before revealing thatnext year there will be about 50 students.

Connectivity is of course not the only chal-lenge the NPO is facing.

Volunteers help Nyoka with the training, but he says that even they need minimumcompensation.

He works as hard as he can as an instruc-tor and paramedic, but his efforts to raisefunds for the NPO are not enough.

The course is designed to help people mar-ket themselves online.

“We teach people to follow the right chan-

Following incidents of stone throwing du-ring the early hours of last Tuesday morning, police urge motorists to be very cautiouswhen travelling on the N1 between Okavangoand Brighton roads.

Kraaifontein police received reports of two

incidents where motorists travelling on thisstretch of road had stones thrown at thembetween 01:00 and 02:00 on Tuesday mor-ning,” said Lieutenant Thembi Gwe, spokes-person of the Kraaifontein police station.

Gwe says police are investigating.

Stone throwing on N1 puts motorists at risk

The Milnerton Riding Club and RidingSchool (MRC) recently extended a helpinghand to learners from Seal College andmade their day in the process.

The college is a school for mentally disa-bled children.

The ponies of MRC are used as a form oftherapy as well as to help the children learnbalance and coordination.

“It was a marvellous day,” says MRCchairperson Tanya Williams.

This was also the perfect occasion to usea new custom-built ramp at MRC.

On previous visits the children were notall strong enough to mount from the smallmounting block the school had made out ofcrates, so the teachers and instructorsstrained their backs to get the children onthe ponies.

A local company, Westinghouse Electric, heard about the plight of the riding school

and the children and decided to come to therescue.

Two engineers from Westinghouse, NaasScholtz and Brian van Rooyen, designed adisabled mounting ramp to enable the chil-dren to mount the ponies safely from a high-er height without having to climb any diffi-cult stairs.

Then a few engineers built the ramp forthe riding school, making sure it is abso-lutely safe to use, with safety rails all theway around.

“This saved the instructors and teachersbacks,” laughs Williams.

MRC is a public benefit organisation andcommunity club that has been based in Ta-ble View for over 40 years. As part of theirgoal to give back to the local community, members volunteer their time and schoolponies to local non-profit organisationssuch as Seal College and Home of Hope.

Team solves pony problemThe team from Westinghouse Electric came to the aid of the Milnerton Riding Club and RidingSchool when they built a ramp for mentally disabled children to mount ponies.

After taking out my car licenseI forgot to display it on mywindow. When I saw a trafficofficer writing out a fine, heexplained that there were twoamounts on it – R500 if yourlicense lapsed or R300 if youtook it out and did not displayit.

So it’s two weeks later and Iwant to pay it. I first try theinternet, as fines can be paidvia Absa. The only problem isthere is no reference numberon the fine, so the paymentwill not go through.

I then go to Absa, where thecashier tells me that theTraffic Department’s system isoffline and I have to wait for asecond letter through the SAPost Office.

No problem. So I go off tothe Traffic Department inDurbanville, where I am toldthat they can only take theR500 payment, not the R300one. This can only happen atthe Parow Traffic Department.

I then called the mainnumber, where I was told thatthe fine has not been capturedso I can’t pay it.

Why issue fines if they knowthat the offender can’t pay it?

Is the Traffic Departmentrun by human beings? I ambeginning to wonder...

After reading the SMS fromAnonymous, I feel the need to“bite back” (TB SMSes, 26November).

So many who regard them-selves as “dog lovers” forgetthat while they are at work, away for a weekend or attimes even a week, we the“lonely, old or just selfish” aresubjected to the continuous sadhowling, whining and barkingfrom many a neglected “pet”.

‘Dog lovers’ oftenneglect their pets

You leave home at the crackof dawn, returning some eighthours or more later.

The so-called “pet” is givenits food and then the owner isoff to bed and sleeps like a log, never hearing the night bark-ing. And so it is every singleday.

How many genuine lovinghours are spent with theanimal? As far as you areconcerned your dog protectsyour home and the barking “istheir way of communicating”.To whom, I ask?

To the phrase “get a life”,have you not noticed that wewho complain about the bark-ing are very much alive. We arethe ones who hear and are notdeaf to the sounds of an animalin distress, just surviving a“dog’s life” day after day.

atives across the province andprovide impe-tus for job creation in urban and rural areasby facilitating face-to-face contact betweenproject promoters, entrepreneurs and fun-ding institutions. This week Deloitte and the Western Cape

department of economic development andtourism announced a call for applicationsvia the official website www.westerncape-fundingfair.co.za.The inaugural Western Cape Funding

Fair will be held at the Cape Town Internati-onalConventionCentre on18Marchnext ye-ar and will provide a unique platform forWestern Cape-based bankable, sustainable,profit-seeking projects and businesses thatrequire a minimum of R10 million in fun-ding to connect with funders.

Assisting entrepreneursAlan Winde, Western Cape minister of

economic opportunities, says he is confidentthat the Western Cape Funding Fair 2015will go a longway to assisting budding entre-preneurs. “We know that project funding isa stumbling block formany entrepreneurs,”he says. “Through this fair, which is a jointinitiative between government and busi-ness, we are aiming to address this.”The fair also aims to educate and empower

project promoters and entrepreneurs on theholistic approach and processes to follow inturning ideas into bankable business plans. These plans have a higher probability of at-tracting the right type of funding and invest-ment.

“The rationale is to get project promotersin front of possible funders and investors ina focused one-day session,” said Marius Al-berts, Deloitte regional leader.

Job creationIncreasingly, entrepreneurship is being

viewed by government and the private sec-tor as the primary means to drive economicand social development.“We encourage businesses from all over

the province and across a broad range of in-dustries to enter,” says Alberts. The fair comprises project pitches, entre-

preneur-focused presentations and an exhi-bition on 18 March 2015:

There are also law enforce-ment officers patrolling beaches to assistin ensuring that people swim only in de-signated areas. We ask that all people res-pect the instructions of lifeguards andlaw enforcement officers and report ir-responsible behaviour in the water, suchas people swimming off the rocks, so thatthey can pre-emptively keep people safe.”

Singer and songwriter Jesse Clegg iscurrently busy with his longest tour todate.

With more than 20 stops across the count-ry, Jesse is using the tour to promote his la-test album, Jesse Clegg Live and Unplugged.

“We’ve been playing these acoustic showsfor the last 18 months and they’ve been get-ting a really good response,” Jesse explains, adding that people often come up to him af-ter the show asking for an acoustic album.

He decided to record one of his acousticperformances at The Venue, in Johannes-burg, where ambient mics helped to capturethe “essence” or “vibe” of the show. JesseClegg Live and Unplugged is made up of re-imagined songs from his previous albums,as well as covers of songs that have influen-ced his music.

“When you have just two guitars and twovoices, you really have to be creative withhow you present the songs.” Jesse says hehad to work hard to rework songs, some ofwhich are big rock tracks, in a way thatwould still be new and interesting. “It’s avery stripped down, very intimate set.”

For the recording, Jessewas joinedonsta-ge by guitarist Richard Onraet, who is joi-ning him on tour, percussionist JasonSampson and bassist Roger Hobbs. The al-bum was still mixed in studio like normalalbums, but the live recording gives it a“spontaneous energy”.

Jesse’s acoustic arrangements will be ex-posed to all kinds of audiences as the toursees him playing everywhere from festivalsto smaller clubs.

“It’s a diverse range of shows, sizes andformats.” He’ll also be taking his band to alot of new venues. “It’s a big experiment.”

Jesse’s unplugged album was releasedspecifically for the tour, but he’ll be back instudio to work on his next album as soonas it’s done.

He’s hoping to release his new materialas soon as March, but he’ll need to decidewhich of the 35 songs he’s currently wor-

king with will make it to studio.“When you have a body of work, there are

always some songs that are better thanothers, naturally.” Jesse says he always hasa sense of what will be the first single andhe won’t stop writing until he’s found thatsong.

Fans might hear some of his new songsduring the tour. Capetonian fans can catchJesse and Richard at Blue Peter in Bloubergon Monday 15 December. With a new drummer and a string ofbig shows behind their name, DeWallen are powering on into the

new year.TygerBurger last spoke to the Kuils River

bandbefore the release of their debut-album,Dirty Deals in December 2013.Since then they’ve supported bands like

aKing, Taxi Violence and Van Coke Kartel, performed at Ramfest and toured to Johan-nesburg and the Garden Route.“It was my first time up to Joburg, not a

big fan,” guitarist Pieter Bekker says, add-ing that Ramfest was also a bit of an adven-ture.He got lost picking up equipment in Cape

Town and made it to the festival in Helder-stroom with minutes to spare.“He literally pitched up as we were going

on stage,” frontman Jeandré Swanepoelchips in.“We’re the same ol’ De Wallen, same ol’

nonsense, still don’t know what the hellwe’re doing,” he says.

New singleBut despite the band’s “devil-may-care”

attitude, they still spend a lot of time work-ing on breaking into the industry. They released a new single, “Heart Rate

Rocker”, in May and Jeandré says it’s morelight-hearted than the material on DirtyDeals.“After the first album we had time to re-

flect on the writing process and back thenwe thought we were going to be a seriousrock ‘n roll band, but we realised we’re notall that serious.”Jeandré describes “Heart Rate Rocker” as

a “tongue-in cheek jingle about the girlsfrom Stellenbosch” and says fans can expectmore of the same when they record again. There will be another new element to af-

fect the band’s sound when they recordagain, thanks to new drummer AndreWent-zel.“We’re lucky to have snapped him up be-

cause he’s a little older than us and a lotmore business minded.”Local fans may recognise André as the

drummer for 3rd World Spectator, who re-cently parted ways.

Funky beatsThe band have been hard at work writing

new material and they’ll be spending sometime reworking old and new songs with An-dré to accommodate his style.“You’ll maybe start seeing some more

groove, funk andhip-hop beats,” Pieter says.“The hip-hop element is definitely going

to be introduced,” Jeandré adds, pointingout thatAndré couldn’t have joined the band

at a better time.“We’ve beenworking onnewmaterial, but

we haven’t committed to it yet.” The bandmembers have been figuring out their ownparts in the new songs, but André’s new in-fluence will help them polish the overallsound.De Wallen hopes to release a new single

Yorkshire-baanblad weliswaar net 145/6

Swimming ismore thanjust a sportWestern Province Aquatics (WPA) will hostits swimming championship at the Bellvillemunicipal pool from 10 to 14 December. This is the most prestigious provincial

event of the year, with the top swimmerscompeting for top honours.WPA is continually trying to grow the

sport. Swimming is a life skill and is a vitalpart of the community. There are many swim schools available,

but not all are certified to the correct stan-dards, or registered to WPA.As the custodians of the sport,WPA is vigi-

lant with regards to the requirements oneneeds in order to open learn-to-swim pro-grammes.There are various regulations to be put in

place in order to get registered and accredi-ted with WPA.A few very important criteria needed for

swim teachers/coaches to be registered toWP Aquatics/Swim South Africa are: Level1 first aid certificate; official police clearan-ce; swim South Africa certification (comple-ted learn to swim instructors course); proofof annual registration to WPA/SwimmingSA; the learn to swim school be registeredto WPA.It is imperative parents request proof of

current registration to WPA. Parents cancheck the Western Province website for re-gistered learn-to-swim coaches.WPA has been trying to develop the sport

and take swimming to all communities. The-re are some fantastic projects in place to edu-cate coaches and put safe, fun swim pro-grammes in place, like the porta-pool schoolproject. These are portable pools set up at various

schools in order to get children educated onthe importance of this vital life skill.

Werner Theart (34) is a very likeable fel-low and can be seen as a stalwart of Wes-tern Province golf, having represented hisbeloved province for the past eight years.Werner was appointed as the golf direc-

tor of the Bellville Golf Club back in 2012and lives and breatheswhat fanatical golfers theworld over describe asthe “greatest game of alltime”.“I started playing at the

age of 12 when my fatherbought clubs for himself.I went to the Caledoncourse with him and asthey say, the rest is histo-ry,” said Werner. When it comes to IPT

(Inter-Provincial Tourna-ment) let’s rewindback tothe year 2000. It started atBoland where he repre-sented them for five ye-ars. After that stint heplayed one year for Gau-teng-North in 2005 andsince 2006, has played forhis beloved Western Pro-vince.“Our country is like a

machine that keeps onproducing top talentedgolfers. Off the top of myhead I can think of LukeTrocado (AtlanticBeach),Ian Snyman (Durbanvil-le), LucaPhillipe (Milner-ton) and Carlo O’Reilly(Atlantic Beach).“I must admit that Cen-

tral Gautengwhowon theInternational TeamsChampionship at Mac-cauvlei Golf Club a fewweeks ago is having a ve-ry good year. Butwith theyoungsters I just mentio-

ned, I can’t help but get excited about thefuture of Province golf.”It is not confirmed, but it is hard to think

that anyone except Werner ever managedto shoot a 29 on the back nine of Bellville.“It was one of those days where I didn’t

start particularly well.“This specific day was the Bellville

Open Championship which I had nevermanaged to win until that day.“It was a shotgun start which meant for

me that I teed off on 18which I birdied.Mo-ving on the the front nine I shot a 37 thatleft me five shots behind the leaders.“Then from hole 10 everything changed.

I made birdies on 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.It was then that I started tothink to myself that Imight break 30. Standingon the 16th par three, thewind was swirling a bit. Ileftmy tee shot short in thebunker, played a poor bun-ker shot and two putted fora bogey four. My last holeof the day the far five 17thI birdied giving me the 29andmy first Bellville OpenChampionship.”As golf director, Werner

works closely with thegreenkeeper to ensure thecourse is in the best possi-ble condition all yearround. “I very pleased tosay that on Friday 12 De-cember we will officialyopen our new short gamepractice area where ourmember can work on theirgame.Weare also installedthree hitting nets forwarm-up next to the prac-tice area.”When asked what he

would like to achieve ingolf, the answer was plainand simple.“When you represent

Western Province golf for10 years, you get a specialblazer and badge. That isit, I am going to keep play-ing my best golf to ensurethat I get one of them. When that day comes, itwill sure be a very proudmoment.”

With a kaleidoscope of motorsport at-tractions on offer, Saturday’s finalmain circuit meeting of the year at

Killarney includes exciting national partici-pation and seems set to bring the seasonalcurtain down in style.Topping the bill, the opening round of the

new All-Africa Endurance Series is going tobe supported by the final leg of the PowerSeries sponsoredbyWingfieldMotors. In ad-

dition, in a build-up to an attempt on the Af-rican truckpulling record, localmusclemanBen Visagie (Kraaifontein) is ready to at-tempt to drag a 20 ton truck a distance of 50metres along the Killarney main straight.

Longdistance matchupThe long distance three-hour race has at-

tracted entries from all the main centres inSouth Africa. Here it is going to be particu-

larly interesting to see how the hugely po-werful 8.4 litre, V10 Dodge Viper in thehands of Gauteng’s Charl and Harry Aran-ges fares against newWestern Cape champi-on Francis Carruthers and Nick Adcock atthe wheel of the slick Juno SS3 that untilnow, has dominated the Sports and GTevents in the Cape this year.Others to watch in this one include Greg

Mills and Deon Joubert in a Pillbeam LMP

100 that is being prepared for next year’sprestigious LeMans 24-Hour race, while Da-veAlhardeff and theLambert familyare sha-ring Dave’s American Panoz V8.The Power Series includes events for the

brutal V8 Masters where although champi-onship leaderMarcelAngel is a fair distanceahead of the pack, he could still be caughtby Craig Jarvis. And with all the cars thatwere damaged in thatmonumental pileup atthe start of theopeningevent lastmonthnowrepaired and back in action, there should bea full field. Then, whileWayneWilson (NissanPrime-

ra) and JesseHuggett (VWJetta) deserve ad-miration for taking on a full field of class ABeemers in the Midas Clubman events, itseems more likely that the winner’s laurelswill be claimed by an M3 in the hands of Ju-naid Slamang, Ebrahim Levy or Achmat Le-vy, or the spectacular Danie van Niekerk inhis 325.

Hard fightAlthough versatile Nick Adcock is to sha-

re a powerful sports car in the three-hour,it is unlikely to affect his potential title win-ning performance in the one make MakitaSupercar events. But he will have to outsco-re drivers like Brad Wadeley, Steve McCar-thy, Andrew Moffitt and Jarryd Evans. With class C exponent Paul Simonholding

an overall lead in the Jive GTi Challenge, this class is likely to be as hard fought as thefrontal battle in class Awhere second placedNian du Toit will be the driver to catch.

RACING: AN EXCITING RANGE OF BATTLES ON OFFER AT KILLARNEY

Sizzling season’s end

Francis Carruthers, leading the field in his Juno, will be the Cape Town hopeful for the African 3 Hour Endurance Race.

AWA’s ultimate fight night on Thursday 11December features a 23-man Coca-ColaRoyal Rumble battle where the last manstanding will exit the ring with themost co-veted belt. The current title holder is Miss Gorgeous

who vows to keep the belt for a second yearrunning even though he’ll be the first manentering the ring and will have to battlethrough the full complement of 22 remai-ning wrestlers. If he manages to do that,he’ll be the first man in AWA history to ac-complish a back-to-back victory.Johnny Palazzio comes back all guns bla-

zing for this match to defend his cruiser

weight title hewas able to retain after a bat-tle with Mr Money three months ago. Thiswas the fight where Palazzio broke his legand continued in the ring despite the inju-ry. As for Mr Money, losing to Palazzio inthe previous match means he’ll have to we-ar a dress on the night of the Royal Rumble– the result of the lost challenge.Other superstars set to contest will be the

All Africa Heavyweight Champion – theMissing Link, Shaun Koen, Max The Body,Sammy Swiegers, Ed-Electric and El-Mar-co.The Parow Civic Centre once again hosts

the action and the first fight starts at 19:30.
