Principal’s Pride This week I am proud of our 1st graders who did all of their summer reading work. Students recognized for positive behaviors!!

Congratulations to the following students for being recognized this week for our targeted positive behavior which is: student maintains a growth mindset.

Tooth  Protectors,  Inc.We  are  excited  to  be  able  to  provide  preventative  dental  hygiene  services  to  your  child  at  school.  Tooth  Protectors  Inc.  (TPI)  is  a  

Maine  based  program.  We  have  a  team  of  licensed,  registered  dental  hygienists  who  travel  throughout  Maine  providing  much  needed  

preventative  dental  services.  

We  bring  the  dental  of0ice  to  you!Our  dental  clinic  will  be  set  up  at  Union  Elementary  School  and  

students  will  be  seen  during  school  hours.We  provide  preventative  dental  care  such  as:    oral  assessments,  educational  oral  hygiene  instruction,  dental  cleanings,  3luoride  treatments,  sealants  of  molars  and  pre  molars,  temporary  

3illings  and  referrals.Services  are  available  for  self-­‐pay  patients,  and  for  patients  who  

have  MaineCare  or  other  dental  insurance.  

Our  0irst  clinic  dates  of  this  school  year  here  at  UES  are  September  28th  &  29th

Dental forms were handed out to students at UES the first week of school. If you didn’t get a form or need a new one, call the school (785-4330) or have your child ask for a new one in the office. Forms must be returned by Friday, September 25th in order for your child to be seen. Please contact Allison in the office if you have any questions. Thank you!

DINNER AND A MOVIE NIGHT AT UES SPONSORED BY THE PARENT-TEACHER

GROUPPlease join us for dinner and a movie night nextFriday, September 25th starting @ 6:30 PM. We will be showing the movie Home- rated PG

Pizza & glow sticks will be available for purchase starting at 6:30.The movie will be starting at 7:00 on the outdoor screen (weather

permitting) or inside in case of inclement weather.

This week at UES we will begin to recognize those students who have exhibited excellent lunchroom behavior. Each week we will choose 12 students who will receive a golden ticket. Those students will get to sit at a special royalty table on Monday in the cafeteria. Congratulations to the following students for being chosen to be at the royalty table this week!

These Halloween themed items will be put on display in the lobby from 10/13-10/30. Winners will be drawn on 10/30 from the raffle tickets purchased. Upcoming  classes  next  week  with  the  Department  of  Inland  Fisheries  and  Wildlife:Crossbow  Safety  with  Reggie  ReadThis  is  a   required  course  for  anyone  applying   for  a  crossbow  license.    Topics  covered  include  the  history  of  crossbows,  user  responsibility  and  ethics,  shooting  and  handling,   laws  and  safety,  and  special   concerns.    At  the  end  of  class,  a  test  will   be   administered   for  certiJication.    Class  meets  Tuesday,  September  22  from  5:30  –  9:00  pm.    Fee:  $10.    Location:  Medomak  Valley  High  School,  Room  24.

Hunter  Safety  Home  Study  with  Reggie  ReadThis  is  a   certifying   course.    Students  must  attend  all   scheduled  sessions   (3)   as  well   as  study  at   home  with  books  or   the   Internet   to  be  eligible   to   take   the   Jinal   exam.  Children   12   and   under  must   be   accompanied  by  an   adult.    Registration   AND   payment   are   required   in  advance   –  sign   up   today!     Class  meets   Thursday,  9/24,   Tuesday,  10/6   &   Thursday  10/8   from   6:00   –  9:00   pm.     Fee:   $10.     Location:  American  Legion  Hall,  Jefferson  Street,  Waldoboro.

Ongoing  class:HiSET  (formerly  GED)  Preparation  Class  If  you  or  someone   you  know  needs  to  earn  a  high  school   credential,  join  us  on  Wednesday  evenings  at  Medomak  Valley  High  School  and  start  the  process  with  us.      Preparation  consists  of  Reading  and  Math  assessments  and  taking  the  HiSET  Practice  Tests  in  Reading,  Writing,  Math,  Science   and  Social   Studies  prior  to  taking   the  Jive  OfJicial  HiSET  Exams.    If  you  need  tutoring   in  any  subject  area,  we  can  help  with  that  as  well.  If  Wednesday  evening  does  not  Jit  your  schedule,  we  will  work  out  a  daytime  schedule  for  you.    Class  meets  every  Wednesday  from  6:00  –  8:00  pm.    Fee:  FREE  for  Maine  residents.    Location:  Medomak  Valley  High  School,  Room  30.

Free & Reduced Lunch Applications

If you have not returned your child's free and reduced lunch application, please do so ASAP. A new one needs to be filled our each year. Make sure to complete all sections, listing the names of all household members and their income.

If you are not sure whether your child has qualified for free or reduced lunch, please contact the kitchen manager at your child's school or the food service director at 785-2277 ext. 241.

Every Monday morning and Thursday afternoon a low and negative lunch balance message is sent out. You can receive this message via email, text, or phone call. You may choose how you want to receive this message. If you decide not receive it at all, you will also not be able to receive any other messages that might come through the messenger system. To make changes regarding how you wish to receive your messages or to stop receiving the low balance message, please contact your school secretary. Keep in mind, however you choose to receive the messages pertaining to your child's lunch account is the same way you will receive other school messages.

RSU #40/ MSAD #40Proudly announce the 2nd

“Race Against Bullying” 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk

In Conjunction with Medomak Valley High School’s Homecoming

The Anti-Bullying Committee has been working hard to put together this race/walk for you. We previously held a poster contest open to all RSU#40/MSD#40 students. We

hope you enjoy contest winners’ posters all along the route. When we began this project we hoped to help bring

awareness of Bullying and the Anti-bullying cause. Bullying has had an effect on almost every person at

some point in their lives. Please join us to have fun and raise awareness among our community.

Date & Time: Saturday, September 19th 5K: Registration at 7:00 a.m. start at 7:30 a.m.

Fun Run/Walk: Registration at 7:30, start at 8:00 a.m. (track closes 8:30 a.m.)

Location: MVHS TRACK (Fun Run/Walk) and X-Country rail (5K)

Entry Donation: 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk = Free (T-shirt sold separately) $10 for t-shirt only

5K = $15 day of race with T-shirt (while supplies last)
