    INTRODUCTION

In accordance with the RAP (attached), instruction received from Unitrans (Mr. Lazarus), we confirm that

Sanitech attended to the Phase 3 remediation of the soil related to the truck burnout at Omaruru.

Sanitech was appointed to conduct the full remediation of the contaminated soil recovered from the

    original site.

Mr Coetzee from Sanitech responded to the initial call out and was requested to first quote for total clean-

up, sampling and remediation of the site. The quotation was accepted by Unitrans and the remedial

process started. A total of 5 samples were taken at Omaruru on the first visit at 50cm in depth at various

points indicated by Mr Coetzee and couriered to GEOLab SA. Results showed that remediation is

compulsory according to the set standards. The soil was excavated, placed in a biopile and treated with

    bio remediating agents.

BACKGROUND ON BIO REMEDIATION AT USAKOS

    Product information:

Petrol is an environmental hazardous substance that can have a toxic and harmful effect and should be

cleaned up in-line with the Namibian Environmental Legislation.

All risks were identified by the contractor and mitigation measures were implemented to reduce and

eliminate all risks. All the workers on site were issued with the correct PPE and they were informed of the

risks and the mitigation measures. The site was barricaded off during the remediation process.

DESCRIPTION OF THE SITE AND WORK PERFORMED

Mr Coetzee attended the site on the 26 June 2019 for the 2nd remediation process, to treat the

contaminated soil placed on plastic sheeting for treatment in a biopile. Samples were taken at 3 points

at the core of the pile of 30m. Samples were numbered – N1 (north sample 1), C2 (cente sample 2) and

S3 (south sample 3) with date and Unitrans.

The biopile was covered with pvc sheeting which had remained intact for the whole period, since Phase 2

was completed six weeks ago .

The soil inside the biopile was turned using heavy duty equipment and man power. The biopile was

drenched with water, mixed thoroughly to airated all areas, covered with pvc sheeting again to prevent

water evaporation and allow bacterial activity.

    Human activity

The immediate area of the site has no active human activity.

    Action taken

    • An inspection of the area was conducted – In order

    • The bio pile was opened and inspected – soil was still slightly wet with no petrochemical odours

    • The soil in the bio pile was mixed thoroughly – aerated properly

    • Water was added through the whole mixing period

    • The bio pile was covered

    • The site was secured and waste was disposed
