March comes in like a Lion
(and we started with snow…) and
out like a Lamb (sunshine and
spring flowers?!!)
Snow shoeing and Tobogganing
Just a reminder to Mrs. Sollid,
Lock and Gilchrist’s classes that
on March 9 you will be heading up
to the Callaghan Valley for a day
of fun and exercise!
If you’ve never been on their
snow shoe trails, they are fantas-
tic. Don’t forget to bring your
crazy carpet and a helmet for the
toboggan run. If you have not
pre-ordered your lunch, then
please don’t forget to pack one!
Student Led Conferences and
Exhibitions of Student
Learning
March Report Cards
Student Led Conferences for
Kindergarten, grades 1, 2 , 3 and
Mrs. Smith’s grade 3/4 class, will
take place on Thursday, March 15
from 2:15-4:30 and 5:30-7:00
pm. Please come during these
times at your convenience. NO
appointments will be taken for
these. This is a time for your
children to shine and explain their
learning to you Classroom teach-
ers will be on hand to help facili-
tate these conferences. Class-
rooms will be closed between
4:30-5:30 for a dinner break.
The same evening, our grade
4/5/6 classes (Mrs. Hyttenrauch,
Sollid/Clegg and Sherlock/Clegg)
classes will be having an exhibi-
tion of student learning where
students will share their project
work. The idea behind an exhibi-
tion of learning is that parents
and students will be able to expe-
rience the work of other children
as well as their own.
Presentation is part of the
learning process. (see pg. 4)
The exhibition will take place in
the gym from 6-7:30 pm.

We have just received a lot of new books for our library. These
include titles from the Writing Power books list, texts on residen-
tial school and books for younger readers like The Plot Chickens,
Canada all year, Why?, Diary of a Fly and A Squiggle Story—come
check them out!!
We now have a dedicated computer for students to use to search
and find their own book in our library! Classes will be coming in to learn how it works.
We also have some great new books that were given to us by The Honourable Judith Guichon,
Lieutenant Governor of BC on her recent visit to our school.
We are also showcasing our schools artistic side with two new beautiful pieces hanging in our
library? Mrs. Sotham’s class created a majestic life-sized eagle and Mrs. Smith/Wilkinson’s
class created a gorgeous mural of our local ecosystem using a variety of materials—come
check out our hands-on learning and creativity!
Library News
If you missed our last PAC meeting we had a great discussion on how some of our PAC
funds should be spent at the school, and what kind of fundraising activities we wish to
do.
We have decided to purchase a motorized screen for the gym so that videos being
shown at gym assemblies will have a much nicer viewing area. We will also be purchas-
ing some sports equipment for classrooms to use during recess/lunch.

Lieutenant Governor of BC
On Tuesday, we were pleased to have the Lieutenant Governor of BC, Judith Guichon, visit our school.
She told us about her job, her role as the Queen’s representative in the BC Legislature and infor-
mation on our governing system, Parliament and Government
House. Several students presented their poems, writings and
posed questions to her.
She greeted each and every students personally and gave each a
book mark and our

Grade 4/5/6 teachers are participating in a Communicating Student Learning pilot whereby continuous, timely communication about student learning goes home in lieu of March reports.
While teachers are working hard to make all of the in-class, formative assessment visible to parents through e-folios and home packages, the students are also working hard to engage in self-re%ection and goal se&ing across the curriculum.
Parents are likewise working hard to give feedback on student work and ensure that the exchange of information goes back and forth between home and school smoothly!!
