CURRENT RELEVANT COURSEWORK

Theories & Practices of Placemaking (Graduate Level)- Understanding and challenging the princi-ples and practices of placemaking, this course is fulfilling an urban design minor course requirement.

Site Planning & Design- Investigating two- and three- dimensional design principals, human physio-logical constraints, analyzing topography, identifying relationships between site planning and design, communicating and presenting the outcome to clients. Software used: GIS, Illustrator, Photoshop.

Land Use Controls- focusing on land use controls and planning at the local government level. includ-ing zoning and related legal mechanisms.

Economic Foundations for Planning Urban Economies- fundamental economic concepts and theo-ry with specific emphasis on the use of economics for planning urban communities

My particular interests lie in urban design and urban transportation, specifically in catering urban spaces to the needs of the people, making cities walkable, safe, and sustainable. Living in Cincinnati has opened my eyes to the multiple planning issues that larger cities face. I look forward to making an impact in whatever city I work in.

FALL 2015 STUDIO

This basemap is the starting point for our analysis of the site. It shows streets, pavement, and parcels.

Page 7: Urban Planning Portfolio 2015

This semester we had the opportunity to choose from three sites in Cincinnati to poten-tially develop for residential use. The sites were all parks, so that we would have to work with changes in topography, their views, and their accessibility. We chose Mt. Airy forest as our project site. Over the course of the semester we have performed detailed context & site analyses, including but not limited to, topographic and soil maps, climatic analysis,

vegetation and infrastructure maps, location analysis and traffic patterns, and more.

Mount Airy Forest Context & Site Analysis

We will use all of the information that we gathered in order to “develop” a site, tak-

ing in to account the elevation, how much clearing of the land you would have to

perform in the dense vegetation, and what kind of soil you can or cannot build on.

SPRING 2015 STUDIO

East End is a neighborhood in Cincinnati stretching seven miles along the Ohio River, once home to Cincinnati’s man-ufaturing district. There are many vacant buildings and lots, so my group chose this neighborhood to analyze in hopes

we would have some creative ideas to improve it.

East End Land Cover Map

As a part of our analysis, we took a look at the land cover of our area. The physical ground is mostly cleared land and wood-lands.

East End Zoning Map

In regards to the zoning of East End, you can see it is legally designated to be used for manufacturing and single family. It was inter-sting to compare a technical, legal analysis of the land to the actual use of the space. There has been a rapid decline in population density in the last forty years, and housing vacancy has gone up significantly.

These 3-D models are current representations of buildings in East End, the CBD specifically featured above. In order to bring improvement to the area, we chose to utilize the vacant building second from the left, directly next to the popular Eli’s BBQ, and turn it in to an ice cream shop.

improvement model

Our group really wanted to breathe life back in to the neighborhood. Capitalizing on the popularity and close proximity of Eli’s BBQ, We wanted to create not only a private space where people can buy ice cream and stimulate the local economy, but a public recreational space in which people can play and interact.

This improvement model also includes a public gar-den, a soccer field, as well as park benches and ta-bles. While we wanted to attract people from other neighborhoods, we also wanted to give back to East End by creating a space in which it’s current residents will benefit.

Map of Colorado Counties

GIS Work

Geoprocessing: for this assignment I built a study area for two rapidly growing counties in Colorado: Denver and Jefferson counties. To make this map, I had to use these geoprocessing features: create new feature classes, select by location, merge, and clip to create the study area features.

Cluster Ananlysis of Larceny Crimes in Pittsburgh

I made a cluster analysis in order to see the patterns of crime in certain areas of Pitts-burgh. This is specifically useful in data mining, searching for interesting or useful patterns in large, complicated datasets.

GIS WorkCincinnati Bus Routes & Stops

I made this map in order to have a visual representation of the bus routes and number of bus stops in different neighborhoods throughout Cincinnati. This is specifically helpful in looking at which neighborhoods need more bus stops, and if more routes need to be implemented. In order to get this information I had to locate the shapefiles and download them from the internet, and apply them to the map of Cincinnati. I then created a gradient to display the range of bus stop densities throughout the neighbor-hoods.
