    Mediums entire home page is dedicatedto registration. The company displaysthree stories and a button to sign up.

    There is a button in the footer of thewebsite that says Find something toread. This is the only way to view contentwithout signing up for an account.

    Medium gives users only two ways to signup for an account: Facebook and Twitter.After picking one, users are taken to anew page with a registration form.

    The text boxes shake back and forthhorizontally, become outlined in red, anddisplay a message upon finding an error.

    The webpage displays a banner until theuser verifies their email address, and thesite redirects to al ist of trending articles.

    Exposures home page is designed to get users to sign up for their service. The buttonuses the phrase JOINNOWas opposed to SIGNUP. After joining, users are taken to a pagewhere theyre prompted to create their own story.

    Exposures registration form uses a call to actionsimilar to the one on their splash page: JOIN&STARTCREATING. The website handles an incorrectemail by throwing a 500 error. Other errors areindicated by outlining the text box in red and dis-playing an error message below.

    Vimeo also puts registration in the spotlight on their home page. They use JOINratherthan SIGNUP, which helps users feel like theyre becoming part of a community.

    Vimeo presents users with error mes-sages using popovers that appear afterpressing JOIN(left). After signing up for

    an account, the screen reads, Welcomehome, [name] and the user is shown afeed of new videos (below).

    Flickrs webpage is mostly focused on driving downloads of their iOS app. The signup button is located in their header and is not visually different from any of the otherbuttons.

    Users are then taken to a registration form.The interface displays username sugges-tions while the cursor is in the Yahoo user-name box.

    Password guidelines are provided on click. Ifthe textbox is unclicked without satisfyingall p/w requirements, the interface displaysthe error using color and a red message.

    The phone number is formattedautomatically, and the textbox isoutlined in red if its invalid.

    The i inside the phone numbertextbox provides helpful informa-tion for users who are wonderingwhy Yahoo needs this info.

    All boxes are outlined in red im-mediately (before clicking CREATEACCOUNT) when an error is detect-ed. And a green check is displayedupon sucessful completion.

    tumblr

    Tumblrs home page is all about registration. The background is a rotating collectionof images from their community.

    Tumblr handles error messages by displaying a small message below the signup form.This message shows up after the user clicks SIGNUPand an error has been detected.

    After the user clicks SIGNUP, a new form slides in from the right (without re-loading thepage) that asks for the users age. The user then clicks DONE! and is taken to their feed.

    His sign up page is accessed by mousing over the circle icon at right below. Clickingthis directs the user to a registration form.

    His registration formhandles errors by show-ing red text after the

    user clicks SIGNUP.

    After signing up for an account, Hi users are presented witha welcome page that explains what Hi, asks users to connectwith their friends, and displays a list of suggested topics and

    writers to follow.

    cowbirdCowbird allows users to sign up by clicking a link in the top right hand corner that saysjoin cowbird. One thing unique to cowbird: a textbox that says You, which asks us-ers to tell Cowbird about themselves. After signing up, users are shown the screen atright. Error messages are displayed below the checkmark to agree to terms of service.

    After users press continue, they are taken to their home page. This page consist ofDaily Stories, story prompts, topics, places, dates, authors, and dedications. Cow-bird also displays a yellow banner on the top of the page until the user confirms theiremail address.

    Twitters registration form is prominently featured on their home page next to a blurbabout what the service does. Their registration form provides a lot of useful valida-tion in real-time. The only password hint provided show sup while users are typing andreads, 6 characters or more. Be tricky!

    Facebooks sign up form is the first thingusers see when they navigate to www.facebook.com.

    Facebook handles form erros with a com-bination of red popovers, outlines, andsmall banners. These errors appear whenthe SIGNUPbutton is clicked.

    The social network also allows users toask why they need a certain information,like birthdays. And after signing in, usersmust find and connect with friends. Theweb page displays a banner until the userconfirms their email address.

    If users attemtp to log in with an emailaddress that is already taken, the inter-face presents them with this dialouge.

    quora

    Its infamously impossible to read any content on Quora without signing up for an ac-count. The sign up page is clean and simple

    Quoras registration form asks users to signup. Users are unable to view content until theiremail address is verified by Quora.

    The website handles erros by turn-ing the textbox red and placing anerror message below. There areno password guidelines, but if apasssword is too generic, usersreceive a jacascript alert windowafter clicking SIGNUP.
