Pilgrim Rosary for the Dominican Jubilee From the Order of Preachers website:
Many are preparing the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Order of Preachers. Here is the "Pilgrim Rosary" for the Jubilee. Throughout the 8th centenary of the Order, it will travel through all the monasteries of Dominican nuns. Why did we choose our nuns? To do as Our Father Saint Dominic did as he began with them! The whole Dominican family will rely on their prayer and will take part in it, of course!. A program to give two days to each monastery around the world that will become in a certain way the center of the world of the Rosary. During the two days at each monastery, the sisters, if they
wish and if they can, have the freedom to organize a meeting, a time of prayer around the Rosary. It will be possible for them to invite the brothers and the apostolic sisters and/or the lay people who live around them to join them in this Pilgrim Rosary. Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As Americans and Catholics, we have been greatly blessed and strengthened by the vis-it of Pope Francis. Like the ancient prophets, he has "turned the hearts of fathers to their chil-dren and of children to their fathers," calling for all that will serve a fami-ly life of generous and faithful love, according to God's plan. He has reiterated and devel-oped the teaching of the Church on a just distribution of the world's goods, and on the protection which must be given to every human being, from conception to the end of earthly life. He has placed care for the environment within the framework of a reverent response to the divine plan of creation and redemption. He has called people of good will to care for the poor and vulnerable, who are all too often ig-nored, shoved aside, or even eliminated, while a self-centered, consumerist culture focuses on pleasures and possessions, instead of on gen-

uine communion, sacrificial love, and the treas-ury of intangible riches—faith , literature, art, and the wisdom of the ages. And the Pope's ministry has stirred a number of people to re-turn to the practice of their faith, or else to con-tinue to live as disciples of Jesus and members of the Body, but more faithfully and more gener-ously.
A fine (and brief!!!) summary of the moral vision of Pope Francis ("Laudato Si' and the Selling of Body Parts") can be found on the Internet. It's by the chairman of the theology department at Ave Maria University, Michael Dauphinais, and was published in "Crisis" on September 22nd. Dauphinais does a close reading of the Pope's encyclicals and other statements, and shows how many of Pope Francis's proposals, though at times superficially like positions dear to parti-san media, are in fact significantly different from them, and derived from a consistently Christian worldview. I urge as many of you as possible to read the article, which does have some tech-nical terms here and there, but is readily under-standable. God bless Pope Francis! And may our ever faithful God bless you as well, to be equipped by Word and Spirit for every good work. During this month of October, let's com-mend ourselves and those we serve to the par-ticular care of Our Lady, Help of Christians and Queen of Peace. Thanks, as always, for all your prayers for me.

Grove, PA. We were blessed to have Rev.
John Lydon, O.P., preside over the Final
Promise advancements. A beautiful witness
to evangelization for all Dominican Laity by
Father Lydon was presented; and cake was
served in celebration of this blessed event in
the Fr. Curran Church Hall.

The Eucharist was celebrated by Peter’s pas-

Besides the 800th anniversary of the founding
of our Dominican Order, we’re approaching an-
other important date – the 100th anniversary of
Fatima in 2017, and as with many occurrences
that seem at first to be pure coincidences, these
two events are indeed divinely linked. The easi-
est evidence can be seen within the Basilica of
Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima. There, pil-
grims are greeted by a grand marble statue of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary that
was sculpted by Fr. Thomas
McGlynn, O.P., under the direc-
tion of Sr. Lucia herself. (Fr.
McGlynn also carved the angels
upholding the baptismal font in
St. Vincent Ferrer in New York
City.) Inside the sanctuary, there
is a statue of St. Dominic made
by Maria Amélia Carvalheira da
Silva as well as memorial statues
in honor of Pope Pius XII and St.
Louis Marie Grignion de Mont-
fort, both Third Order Domini-
cans.
The connection between Fati-
ma and the Order of Preachers
has deeper foundations than
stone sculptures. Construction
of the Basilica started in 1928,
and it was consecrated on October 7, 1953 by
Pope Pius XII. This Pope has many connections
to Fatima. On May 13, 1917, while the Mother of
God was appearing in Fatima, the future Pius XII
was being consecrated Archbishop by Pope Bene-
dict XV. He in turn consecrated the world to
Mary's Immaculate Heart on October 31, 1942, to
mark the Silver Jubilee year of Our Lady's appari-
tion at Fatima and established the Feast of Mary's
Queenship with the encyclical letter, Ad Coeli
Reginam, promulgated on October 11, 1954. Also in
1954, an international community of Dominican
nuns settled in Fatima at the Pius XII Monastery,
where the Perpetual Rosary Association is based.
(These are the same nuns who translated Sr. Luci-
a’s memoirs.)
Another Fatima act done by Pope Pius XII
was the crowning of two statues. (There were so
many requests for visitations by the first statue
that the need for a second one was made obvious
within a few months.) During a famous radio
address in 1951, the Pope recalled the crowning
of the Fatima statue: "In 1946 we crowned Our
Lady of Fatima as Queen of the world, and the
next year, through her pilgrim
image, She set forth as though to
claim Her dominion, and the
miracles She performs along the
way are such that we can scarce-
ly believe our eyes at what we
are seeing."
One of the statues was al-
so blessed by the Bishop of Fati-
ma on October 13, 1952, for its
mission to the United Nations.
That year, the statue was taken
into the Meditation Room of the
United Nations by Monsigeur
Harold Colgan, founder of the
Blue Army now known as the
World Apostolate of Fatima. It
was at the United Nations that
Monsigeur Colgan led the recita-
tion of the Rosary. Since that
time, the UN International Pilgrim Statue has
been part of the World Apostolate of Fatima and
its Dicastery. The second statue’s custodian, the
Pilgrim Virgin Committee, is based in Indiana.
Both statues have been continuously traveling the
world and will be touring within our region dur-
ing the months leading to the centenary anniver-
sary. In some cases, relics of Jacinta and Frances-
co and a piece of the holm-oak tree on which Our
Blessed Mother appeared travel with the statue.

same order every day on his own and was

Answer to OP Moment Trivia is: d.
St. John Macias. He was born in Spain in 1585
and was orphaned at a young age. His uncle
raised him; and he was trained as a shepherd. At
age 25 he started working for a wealthy busi-
nessman who sent him on many travels which
ended in Peru. He entered the Dominican Priory
at Lima in 1623 and became the doorkeeper un-
til his death. He was known for his love of the
rosary from a young age and his generosity to
the poor—he fed at least 200 of the poor daily.
The people of Peru, poor and wealthy alike,
came to seek his counsel at the gates of the pri-
ory. He was beatified, along with Martin de
Porres, by Pope Gregory XVI in 1836 and was
canonized in 1975 by Pope Paul VI. His feast
day is September 18.
