Welcome

We welcome the following pupils and their families to Wakari. We hope you will enjoy being part of

Team Wakari and our learning environment.

Dear Parents/Caregivers It is the little things I witness as a Principal that never cease to amaze me. The kind acts by Wakari children to one another, the wider understanding of issues and a will to make a dif-ference. I wish the Senior Syndicate children all the best as they look to raise money for the people of Nepal after the recent turmoil caused by the two massive earthquakes. Winter sports are in full swing, thanks to the staff and parents that are giving up their time to contribute to teams. I am sure that you realise that without you our children would not have the opportunity to do many of the things that kids should have the opportunity to do. The Pick Up Drop Off zone has started with a few parents getting their children to meet them at the zone. I hope the uptake continues as those that are using it find it a successful and low stress meeting point for them. An information sheet is available on our website (Information Road Safety) or in the office.

We currently have four Year 1 and 2 student teachers working in three of our classrooms. I wish you all the best with your time at Wakari School. Kind regards

Chris Smith

IMPORTANT NEWS Pick up Drop off Safety at Wakari School Thanks to the parents and students who took part in our activities in week 2 to launch our Pick up Drop off Safety Project at Wakari School. A big thanks to Senior Constable Ross Greer for leading our year 5-6s on a ‘safe meet spot’ walk-ing activity as well as demonstrating issues around stopping distances with Constable Kerry Fegan. Congratulations to students who won the junior and senior colouring competition – well done! Reminders on using our new Pick up Drop off Safety system are: Remember the Pick up Drop off area on Shet-land Street is a No Parking area at the times shown on the sign. That means no waiting and no leaving your vehicle. They’re places to pick up drop off and “GO”. If your child isn’t ready for you, please exit and re-enter the area (it takes just a few minutes to go around the block – see the map on our website). This gives others a chance to use your space. Staff will supervise children here until 3.15pm, so it’s okay to come a little later. But if you want to park and wait or come into the classroom, please use longer term parking nearby.

If you have older children (Years 5-6), consider using one of our “safe meet spots”. Have a look at our school website for a map which shows places older children can walk to a short dis-tance away from the school gate. Meeting up this way eases congestion and can take the stress out of pick up times. Please read the map and discuss your after-school arrangement with your child and even do the short walk with them.

Thank You

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the team at Bakers Dozen and Cameron Grindlay for donating vouchers. These vouchers will be used for ‘player of the day’ awards at Netball games this season.
