Commander Buzz is on vacation. He has asked for everyone’s cooperation and support as we transition into a new leadership team. As most of you know, we regrettably accepted Jack Sheehan’s resignation as stated in the announcement below. Fortunately, our Constitution and By-Laws provide for a smooth transition when such unforeseen situations occur. We all appre-ciate continued support of our Legion and our programs. He assures a more detailed “Commanders Comments” article next month.

Department has assigned us a goal of 693 for the 2017 year. We have reached 406 as of Sep-tember 10 2016 for a percentage of 58.59% so far. We have a Department Commanders Visitation scheduled for October 2, 2016 at the Post. Remember, if you know of a local charity you would like the Post to support, please leave me a note or send me an email giving me the name of the charity, the contact person there, and a short explanation of their mission in the community. We are trying to limit our donations to local char-ities and veteran related groups. We have to do-nate funds from the Bell Jar to charity for our li-cense to stay active. Thank you and hope to see you around the Post. Doug Herrmann Adjutant - Membership Chairman

Dear Members,
I want to start off with our “Let Us Remember” 9/11 Dinner that we held on Sunday, September 11, at the Legion. I would like to thank all who helped make this a great success. We decided to “remember” this day, by thinking of the lives lost, and the sacrifices made of many heroes and their families. Everyone could remember where they were on this day 15 years ago, how our country was effected and how we as Americans pulled together to overcome this hor-rific tragedy. We took the opportunity to thank a local fireman/paramedic from the Cicero area for his unwavering service to our community.
Our kids Halloween party is on Sunday, October 23rd from 1 pm -4 pm. The sign-up sheet will be in the bar area next to the kitchen. Deadline for signing up is October 21st.
The Auxiliary’s adult Halloween party is Saturday, October 29th from 7 pm – 11 pm. Latezia and the Z band will be performing. Advance sale tickets are $12 and may be purchased from the bartenders or an Auxiliary member. These tickets will go on sale Oc-tober 1st. Cut off for advance sale tickets will be Oc-tober 22nd. Admission will be $15 at the door which includes food, desserts and goodies. Please bring a travel size toiletry for distribution to our troops and the VA Hospital 9th Floor women’s center.
Last but not least, the Auxiliary is making Thanks-giving pies again this year. The order forms will be near the bar on the counter beginning October 1st. Pies are $12 each. You have a choice of either apple or pumpkin, baked or frozen. There is a limit of 100 pies so place your orders early. November 18th is the last day orders will be accepted. Atten-tion all auxiliary members, please bring 2 pounds of butter before November 1st to the Legion to help de-fray the costs of the pie crusts.
Thank you for all you do.
For God and Country,
Linda Jackson, President

College Report
This past June, in Morrisville, Rick McCrum and I attended: - About 100 Legionaries and SAL throughout the state attended. - The smallest post represented was from inner city Buffalo who has less than 20 members and meets in a church basement. Oddly one of their members who never played a pull tab won $150.00 on the first pull at the Oriskany Falls Legion Post, and also won the shuffleboard tournament as well - a lucky night for her. - One of the largest posts was from Chinatown in NYC. They are planning a parade down Fifth Avenue in NYC to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the AL next year, they told us we would be invited to march. - We stayed in a dorm on the Morrisville campus, all private rooms in a suite. - The food was terrific at the student cafeteria, good chow and abundant, steaks served on night one. - The curriculum consisted of what is expected of each officer position, history and traditions of the AL, AL courtesies, and the four Pillars of the AL, they kept us very busy going from group to group. - The final exam was a case study in problems a local post may face, each group presented a different case in any manner they wished, one group made a movie on their computer with end credits and a soundtrack! - The faculty was excellent, and very dedicated. The same facul-ty will teach at Boys State the following weekend. - On Saturday Night the Oriskany Falls Post hosted a get to-gether, a good time was had by all, they bussed the group to it so no driving involved. - Would recommend AL College to anyone interested. I would like to go to the National College in Indianapolis in the future. Stay well, John Terry, Post Service Officer

From the Chaplain: Dear members, You are in distress when a loved one becomes ill, have sur-gery, get injured or passes away, that is understandable, but please let the Chaplain know as soon as possible so our Legion can take appropriate action. I check the obituaries each morn-ing, but if no mention of military service or being a Legion mem-ber, the family may think we don't care which is never the case. Please email or call Chaplain Heidenreich with infor-mation at [email protected] or 315-345-0702 or 315-458-3895.

Community Service ReportCommunity Service Report
The Great NEW New York State Fair 2016
Hello to All!
Once again the Community Service Committee was at
the NYS Fair raising funds for our Holiday Food Basket Program.
We were blessed with “fair” weather and phenomenal
results.
Special thanks to the 174th Attack Wing for allowing us
to be part of their military exhibit.
Through the support of Major Sandra Staquert, MSgt
Daniel Olmstead and our “go to guy” and friend Chief Chris
Cushman, we were able to set record sales for our Community
Service Programs. We cannot “Thank You” enough!
Extra special thanks go to co-chairman Al
Yanchik, Dave Keegan, Sue Murray and our weapons display
man, Gene Pierson who were there everyday support our pro-
gram. The important volunteers who devoted
their time and efforts were: Frank Puettner, Jim Taylor, Dave
Wencek, Lyle & Stacy Curtis, Brian Sanford, Tim Tabor, Jen Pi-
tre, Sue Pierce, Rob Wescott, Ted & Michelle Martin, Gordon
Spooner and Sam Solitto.
As a result of the weather, the
174th and our dedicated volunteers, we were able to achieve a
record level of sales. I am extremely proud to announce this
year’s Fair sales in the amount of ………… $ 16,069.
Because of all this hard
work, our Legion will be able to help many more of the less fortu-
nate in our community.
Thank you—God Bless!
Mark Adams - Chairman Community Service

County Commander’s Corner The last County held in Cicero was not very well attended. Being in this part of the County and not to have a very good showing, even from our Post – 787, was very disappoint-ing. Very few committee reports were given. I am looking for a good response to the requests being sent regarding the Department Visitation on October 2, 2016, being held at the Cicero Post 787. If anyone has questions you may call me at 676-3753 or the Post, 699-0786. I am in hopes of having a good representation from our Post. The next Onondaga County American Legion will be held on October 13, 2016 at the Robert J. Hydon Post #0239 at 7:00 PM in Skaneateles. Dave Plato - Onondaga County Commander
