From the Principal’s desk…
Education is the key to opening many doors in life.
It does not stop when we finish school. Opening
our minds to new theories and concepts allows us
to keep growing. This is especially true this week
for Mrs Payne who is away at Principals Induction
training. I hope she will bring back many new
ideas, which we can all use to enhance our
students’ learning.
On Monday we all travelled to Manna Mountain
(near Burcher) to celebrate NAIDOC Day. The day
involved a range of activities including Aboriginal
art, Gunyah (hut) building and hiking up to the top
of Manna Mountain. We were also fortunate
enough to have Linton Howarth, a local Aboriginal
man impart his knowledge about the area and
show the students various different artefacts. The
day ended with a special treat of Johnnie cakes
cooked over warm coals. It was an amazing day and
allowed us to understand more about our local
Indigenous history and culture. Thank you to all
students and staff who attended and to the Lake
Cowal Conservation Centre team for hosting such
an excellent day.
It is great to welcome two new enrolments to UCS.
Meet ‘Kaylene’ and ‘Gypsy’ (pictured below). We
are hoping these two Dexter cows will be the start
of a UCS Ag Show Team in the very near future.
Today the Mayor, Cr Tony Lord and his delegates
visited UCS. His aim was to meet the youth of
Ungarie and speak to them directly about what the
Bland Shire Council can do to support and improve
opportunities for the youth of Ungarie. It is great
to see the Mayor take an interest in the needs of
our young people and hope this day will lead to
positive outcomes for all.
Next week we begin the ‘Little Humbugs’ transition
program. This will enable our 2019 Kindergarten
students a chance to experience ‘Big School’. We
are all excited to welcome them to UCS and cannot
wait to meet them.
Until next time!

NEWS
Week 3, Term 2
K/1/2: Samuel, Nate, Nicholas and Olivia.
Year 5/6: Allora, Harry, Kate, Josh, Noah, Alfred and Mitchell.
Our “Little Humbugs” program begins on Tuesday 21st with a half day visit. We are looking forward to getting to know our new Kinders.
Congratulations to all of our students who
participated in the Lower Lachlan Athletics Carnival
in West Wyalong on Tuesday. Well done Noah,
Lewis, Olivia, Evie, Madi, Lara and our Bagley Relay
team of Noah, Lewis, Hannah and Mitchell. These
students will be competing at the Western Region
Trials in September.
We all had a lovely, informative day at Manna
Mountain on Monday. Our students were well
behaved, enthusiastic and, if they did ‘the climb’ very
resilient. Thank you to all those staff and community
members who worked so hard to give us such a
wonderful day.

TASKS Study Zone
It is great to have an organised space, have things in sections or areas that are easy to
find. Have you thought about folders for each subject, a different colour for each subject?
It is sometimes good to have a change of scenery – Sit out in the sun, Study on the
veranda. Try to not study on you bed – this is not the most productive spot to study
Seeking Help Encourage your child to seek out the help
and support of their Teachers, Year Advisors, Careers Advisors and Mentors.
All of these staff can be of assistance.
Many of the staff are offering additional study sessions or opportunities to support
students in the lead up to the exams

IMPORTANT P&C UNIFORM NOTICE
We need your help!
It's that time of year to decide if we need to order polo
school shirts. As we need to order 100 shirts (and it
takes 3 months) we need your indications. At the
moment we are low in some sizes but still have a
considerable amount of stock.
We would appreciate if everyone can look through their uniforms and indicate via
the facebook page or complete the slip and return it to the front office if you will be
requiring polo shirts between now and the end of Term 1 2019.
This does not lock you into purchasing what you have indicated as we are aware
children grow really quickly sometimes but it gives us an idea of what is needed
going into the future.
P&C uniforms want to be able to meet your uniform requirements so please make
an indication by Wednesday 22nd August 2018.
Please contact Karen Rossiter if you have any questions.
Thanks for supporting UCS P&C Uniforms.

Thanks :- To all that braved the cold morning on Sunday.
All 22 "Remembrance Bottle Brush" have been taken, and with
