clubs/activities/sports for all interests• Important to maintain balance
9th Grade
Main focus of Freshman Year…
1. Transition to High School• Link Crew Leaders
• Counselor led classroom presentations in early October
• Teachers watch for students who need extra assistance
2. Get involved in High School community• Community service – 40 hours required
• Leadership, Clubs, Drama
• Sports (keep eligibility requirements in mind)
9th Grade

3. Academic Success• GPA counts for college starting now
• Develop time and stress management techniques
• Develop strong study skills
4. Independence & Self-Advocacy Skills• Encourage and teach students to speak directly to
teachers
10th Grade
• Rigorous curriculum (balance)/AP choices• Stay involved (clubs, sports, etc)• Community service!!• Strengthen study skills• PSAT/Practice ACT• Start researching and visiting colleges• BSD College Conference and National College
Fair
11th Grade• Continue in rigorous and balanced program• PSAT – October, during school day• Community service• College rep visits, opportunity to ask admission questions,
BSD College Conference, National College Fair• Junior meeting opportunities with counselor• SAT/ACT – student signs up in spring on-line• Continue researching and then narrow college selection
process: • “Reach”• “Realistic”• “Confident”• “Best fit” schools by the end of year

12th Grade• Colleges emphasize rigorous and balanced senior
schedule• Colleges look for strong senior year• Complete all graduation requirements• Post-high school planning• National College Fair• College applications staring in the fall• Retake SAT/ACT if needed in the fall (no more

New Requirements for 2019
BSD High School Overall Graduation Requirements • 24 Credits (28 possible)• 17 Core credits + 3 Personalized Pathway
Requirements + 4 Elective credits • 3rd credit of science and 3rd credit of math are
chosen by the student based on their High School and Beyond Plan
• Personal Pathway Requirement (PPR)-3 courses that lead to specific post H.S. career or educational outcomes; part of the High School and Beyond Plan
• 2.0 Minimum GPA• 40 Hours Community Service
State Testing - Class of 2019Must meet Smarter Balanced English Language Arts (ELA) standard: Taken in 11th grade
Must meet Smarter Balanced Math Standard: Taken in 11th grade
Must meet Science Standard:Biology EOC exam OR Comprehensive NGSS (Next generation science standards)Test -1st administration is Spring 2019
