Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Raid Response Efforts St. Paul the Apostle Parish, in Norwalk, OH, has stepped up, in cooperation with Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo and the Office of Intercultural Ministries, to assist affected families in the aftermath of June 5th Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE raids at Corso’s Flower and Garden Centers in Sandusky and Castalia, OH. The parish is collect-ing both monetary and product donations to assist families in Norwalk, Willard and area communities. Funds being collected are first being used to set up detainee accounts, so calls can be made to loved ones and personal care items can be purchased. Other financial donations will be used in cooperation with the parish’s St. Vincent DePaul group, to help with tempo-rary, long-term needs, such as rent/utilities assistance and other family emergency expenses. Parish staff are working with pro-bono attorneys meeting with folks, to help with filling out paperwork and assist with fees these attorneys will incur on behalf of those they are representing. Numerous donations of diapers, wipes, food, clothing, and baby formula are being distributed to those in need. A valuable “Know Your Rights” resource on “Preparing Your Family for Immigration Enforcement,” prepared by Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), is available in Spanish and English at immigration.ablelaw.org Donations, earmarked for “Immigration Outreach,” can be sent to St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 91 East Main St., Norwalk, OH 44857.

From Fr. Dave Bruning …. As I embark on my ministry as your pastor and you read this on the first weekend I will be here, I am happy to be serving your parish community. Though I will be taking all the Sunday Masses this weekend and next, I will be keeping Fr. Joe Newman and Fr. Alan Zobler on the weekend schedule. On Saturday, July 21 at the 4:00pm Mass Fr. Mike Dandurand, the Dean of St. Luke Deanery, will formally install me as Pastor. You are all invited to attend that celebration. One of the things we may consider is the possibility of having one weekday Mass a week. The most likely day would be Friday, since that is the one day Little Flower does not have a daily Mass. The staff and I will look from input, particularly from those who like to go to daily Mass from time to time, to see if there is sufficient in-terest for this, and to see what time of day would be best if this is established.
