Your child’s yellow communication folder will come home each night and need to be returned each morning to school

This is not only important for taking home and returning homework but it also teaches your child organization and responsibility.

This will contain school flyers, homework, returned work, newsletters, and any other important documents.

Parents, grandparents, siblings, and close family friends are invited to come into the classroom and surprise your student as a “mystery” reader. The students will guess who you “belong to” after you have finished reading your book.

This is a big hit with second graders and they love to have a familiar face read to their class.

This will begin in December!

My philosophy on education is that if children are explicitly taught what is expected of them, they will make the right choices.

Because of this, I spend a great deal of time modeling and explaining my expectations for students

I use positive reinforcement in my classroom and rely on practiced routines to ensure correct behavior.

Wealthy’s TEAM expectations are a huge part of our classroom community. Feel free to use this language at home to help reinforce our TEAM!

Individual Verbal Praise ~ I always strive to communicate to students all the good choices I see them making and kindness they show towards one another. I try my best to notice and name good choices

Page 23: Welcome to Parent Information Night Thursday , September 4 th Wealthy Elementary School

We will have class meetings to give praise to other classmates and problem solve concerns as a team. We will give" compliments and appreciations and discuss the ways we will fill buckets.”

Students are encouraged to try working out problems on their own using “I statements” before reporting incidents.

Talk, Walk, and Squawk!

Page 24: Welcome to Parent Information Night Thursday , September 4 th Wealthy Elementary School

We will walk to Clark Retirement Community to read with the residents.

Unique and special project to the second graders at Wealthy.

Our class will attend in December, March, and May
