You can celebrate digging deep to overcome a challenge or choose a cookbook and dig in to a fabulous feast. Dig for clues or hang out in a dugout. Go on an archeological dig or witness the “Big Dig.” Explore the Great Barrier Reef down under or enjoy colloquialisms from down South. No matter what you choose, dig into reading this summer!

Dear Wellfleet Elementary School Family: Summer is a wonderful time to encourage and stimulate the reading habits of children, and a wonderful compliment to summer activities like swimming, baseball, camping, and travel. Your child’s education does not end when school does, and reading is a terrific way to continue the learning process. As in previous years, Wellfleet Elementary School and the Wellfleet Public Library are partnering with the Massachusetts Regional Library System’s Statewide Summer Library Reading Adventure. This year’s theme is, “Dig Into Reading!” Please plan to visit the Wellfleet Public Library to enjoy exciting summer activities that are planned. Reading on car trips, at the beach, or cuddled up with a favorite adult are just a few examples of reading opportunities over the summer. Whether your child reads independently or is read to, he/she can record their reading experiences in the enclosed book log. Feel free to choose books from the list provided or any appropriate book that appeals to your child. We wish you a safe and fun-filled summer with lots of sun, sand, and READING!
