It’s hard to believe just how quickly this term has gone. With the Jubilee celebrations skewing the Whitsun holiday, these last four weeks have sped by particularly quickly. The summer term is always a rather strange time, since routines differ enormously depending on the year group. There have been a huge number of external (over 160!) and internal exams. By and large, West girls have worked extremely hard during what is at times, a very stressful period. There are of course others, who will have to make sure that they prioritise their academic work next year. Maintaining the balance between what goes on inside and outside of the classroom is a juggling act at which Cranleighans become very adept over their time here. As you read your daughters’ reports, I hope that this comes through, as West girls have been involved in a vast number of events and activities – some of which you will read about from various contributors lat- er. Recently, our House Music Evening was an event I will certainly remember! It was great to see so many girls taking part in such a warm, welcoming at- mosphere., surrounded by cupcakes and bunting. I appreciated everyone’s input, as did the rest of the house. What was slightly more disturbing, though very funny, was being confronted with 10 Mrs Neills and 10 Mrs Burns in lab coats dancing! The L6th went to such a lot of trouble to create this weird and hysterical routine – needless to say my husband found it a bit scary and will probably have nightmares for some time to come! We were treated to modern and classical performances, comparing by Scarly Rudd and a superb house rap by Livi Bur- gon and Rachel Lubbock. All in all, it was a great night. House Prayers was again, a real highlight, as it was a chance for me to thank staff and to say goodbye to our leavers. The U6th have been a fabulous year and really have lead by example in terms of how they have approached running the house and their own work. We will all miss them and wish them every success for the fu- ture. Thanks must, as always, go to the West team, Helen Burns, Sophie Dia- mond, the tutors and the matrons Isabel and Carol for their continued hard work in the house. Unfortunately, we are saying goodbye to Sophie, Ellie Mackay and Liz Jenkins, who are all off to pastures new...they may be new, but they won’t be as pink! A sad goodbye too, to Heli Mallory, who has been a West stalwart for so long – she is remaining at the school but that smelly boys house North has nabbed her! Little do they know that pink is in her blood and it’ll creep in to North somehow. As Heli said to me recently “Maroon is a bit like pink isn’t it?” Unfortunately too, I’ve been seconded to Cubitt, where smelly rugby kit will no doubt welcome me. I am so sorry to be leaving West and it really has been a privilege to get to know you and your daughters. It only remains for me to wish you and your families a wonderful summer and fingers crossed for some sun! House Sports Roundup

Despite the rain, House Athletics was a triumph for West with Georgia Hart pulling ahead in the 200m, Indi Thomp-son coming 2nd in the 1500m, Maddy Austin dominating the 800m, Sophia Ambrose and Sophie Jones stepping in at the last minute into the 400m, and myself falling flat on my face! Of course, everyone else who took part compet-ed really well and West in the end won the Inters! Ellie Smith

Well, What can I say? It was a jolly good effort on our behalf. The Junior Badminton team was made up of Kate Brockman, Ab-by Frett, Sofia Holden, Tess Lenselink, Poppy Couling Liv Cam-sey and Izzy Greeno. Sadly we lost, but that doesn't matter be-cause it’s the taking part that counts! Maybe next time we'll give South a run for their money! Abby Frett

The sun did shine long enough for us to play the Junior Girls

House Golf competition. Jen Vincent, Chloe Nicholls, Me-gan Batchelor and Grace Walker are all accomplished golfers and so it was no surprise that they were able to beat the South team over a leisurely round of the school

course.

Our West Swimmers swam to victory over South with incredi-ble style in the House Swimming Competition. There were many outstanding performances, but notably from Sophie Kinally, Maddy Austin and Ellie Connor in the sixth form and pretty much all our LV swimmers were outstanding. Our non swimmers supported them vociferously!

West won Junior House Rounders! We had great and hilarious play from both years' teams. The U14 As sadly lost their match 8-3.5 but they all played excellently. At one time Grace Walker lobbed the ball which amazingly hit 4th post but shockingly it wasn't counted. The U14 Bs won their match 14-9. Everyone played exceptionally well; Nell Mitchell even managed to score minus half a rounder by catching one of her own team mates out! As for the u15 As, great play was shown by all of them, lots of rounders were scored which is great! The U15 Bs also won their match and they had lots of catches which is brilliant! So overall it was great play by West. Abby Frett

Lower Sixth Team Building

The L6 girls really got stuck into the filthy job of pond clearing and stream clearing on their team building day at Sayers Croft. Great teamwork was also shown on the challenge course and high ropes. The girls were in high spirits, despite the rather grim weather conditions, and were singing loudly in the minibus there and back! This is clearly a year group that works well as a team, that supports one another, and knows how to have fun.
