Palestine ISD staff and students enjoyed a “Black History Month Celebration” earlier this month at the PHS Auditorium. The program included students throughout the district who honored and celebrated the achievements and accomplishments of black Americans.

Brother William Hardy gave an exceptional message and told of the great achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Louis Armstrong, and Maya Angelou.

The highlight of the evening was when A.M. Story Intermediate students appeared as great Americans in black history and did an excellent job of bringing

their characters to life. One unique characterization was that of “Alonzo Marion Story”, a beloved and respected Palestine ISD teacher and the principal of Lincoln High School from 1924 to 1949. In 1953, the school district opened a new facility and named it Alonzo Marion Story High School in honor of the revered educator. The campus is known today as A.M. Story Intermediate.

Congratulations to the Ladycat Basketball Team on making the playoffs! The Wildcat Basketball Team will be playing a bi-district game against Waco-Robinson on Tuesday, February 27, 7:30 pm at the Buffalo High School gym.

The Ladycat and Wildcat Power Lifting Teams are having good seasons and both have qualified for Regional competition.

For the first time in Palestine ISD history, the Wildcat Soccer Team is ranked #1 in the state for 4A Soccer according to MaxPreps.

Good luck to all of our Wildcats and have a great weekend!

One thing is certain: teaching is never dull!  Teachers each and every day face a barrage of situations requiring both intellectually and emotionally challenging solutions. You might think that just the effort spent in satisfying these demands would require so much time and effort that a teacher cannot possibly do more for her students. And you would be WRONG!             WECC’s Mrs. Pam White is that exception. When you pass her classroom you would think she is an actress, performing and captivating her audience–her students. Under Mrs. White’s tutelage her students are deeply immersed in their role as learners. They spend their day in a safe and fun environment, where they can express themselves, make new friends, and learn and engage in activities designed to prepare for school.             Mrs. White deeply believes in what she is doing; it shows in her style and manner of teaching. And the bonus for her (and for all of the students, faculty and staff at the school), is the fact that it is so incredibly rewarding in the end.
