Special Delivery & Big Win for Wildcat Football Team The Wildcats’ first district football game vs the Henderson Lions began with a special surprise on Friday, October 11, 2019. Fans were surprised to see Air E Vac Air Rescue 127 delivering the game ball to Lance Angel, PISD Athletic Direc- tor and Head Football Coach midfield at Wildcat Stadium. The team went on to win their district opener with a score of 41-19. The Wildcat Nation appreciates Air E Vac Air Rescue 127 for helping us begin district play in a BIG way! PHS Choir Talent Show The PHS Varsity Choir hosted the first-ever ETX has Talent, a community wide talent show on Saturday, October 12 th . The talent show featured 21 incredible acts with students from Westwood, Elkhart, UT Tyler University Academy, Palestine, and some homeschool students. PISD employees: Rajanee Arthur from WECC, Ginger Watkins from WECC, Julie Bell from Story, and Courtney Sutton from PJHS also performed. Proceeds from the event totaling $2,000 after expenses will be used for choir members to travel to New York in March of 2020 where they will sing in Carnegie Hall. Thank you to every- one who helped make the talent show a success. See page 2 for a list of winners and sponsors. Thank you PALESTINE FIRE FIGHTERS for bringing our friend Sparky during the month of October to share important fire prevention and safety tips for students . The Wildcat Nation is thankful to be part of a community with such amazing organizations.

Special Delivery & Big Win for Wildcat Football Team

The Wildcats’ first district football game vs the Henderson

Lions began with a special surprise on Friday, October 11,

2019. Fans were surprised to see Air E Vac Air Rescue 127

delivering the game ball to Lance Angel, PISD Athletic Direc-

tor and Head Football Coach midfield at Wildcat Stadium. The

team went on to win their district opener with a score of 41-19.

The Wildcat Nation appreciates Air E Vac Air Rescue 127 for

helping us begin district play in a BIG way!

PHS Choir Talent Show

The PHS Varsity Choir hosted the first-ever ETX has Talent, a community wide talent show on Saturday, October 12th. The talent show featured 21 incredible acts with students from Westwood, Elkhart, UT Tyler University Academy, Palestine, and some homeschool students. PISD employees: Rajanee Arthur from WECC, Ginger Watkins from WECC, Julie Bell from Story, and Courtney Sutton from PJHS also performed. Proceeds from the event totaling $2,000 after expenses will be used for choir members to travel to New York in March of 2020 where they will sing in Carnegie Hall. Welcome back, Wildcat fans! We are excited to kick off the new school year with a full athletic calendar. Our student

athletes have worked hard in preparation for the new season. Cross Country is ready for their first meet in Union

Grove on Saturday, Volleyball is in full swing with the varsity team competing in the Groesbeck tournament today and

tomorrow, Team Tennis hosted their first home match of the season on Thursday, and varsity football will kick off

their season on September 1st versus Mabank. We encourage our fans to come out and support all our fall sports.

As a reminder, please don’t forget Meet the Wildcats, Monday, August 28th, 7:00 p.m., Wildcat Gym! We look forward

to introducing our football, cross country, fall tennis, and volleyball teams, as well as student trainers, band

members, cheerleaders and Kik Kats. Representatives from the PISD Athletic Booster Club will be available, also, to

answer any questions you may have about memberships and volunteer opportunities.

In Volleyball action:

The Ladycats played Pittsburg at home last Friday night in their first home game of the season. JVB lost a tough

match in 3 ( 25-13, 18-25, 11-15). JVA defeated Pittsburg (25-22, 22-25, 25-23)! The Varsity girls lost in three (20-25, 17-

25, 17-25). Faith Newman picked up 22 digs. McKenzie King had 22 assists. Destiny Mathews had 10 kills while Shayla

Arthur added 8 kills. The Ladycats will resume play in the Eustace tournament playing at 9 am vs. Mabank in the

Championship bracket.

The Ladycats hosted Alba-Golden Tuesday night. The JVB team fought hard in a 3 game match, but came up short (25

-20, 21-25, 23-25). Our JVA team won in exciting fashion coming from behind in the 3rd set to win (15-25, 25-16, 25-20)!

Our varsity girls showed heart and fight in their 5 game match with Alba-Golden. We came up short, but very proud of

the effort the girls gave (26-24, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 12-15). We will be playing in the Groesbeck tournament this Friday

and Saturday!

Volleyball The Ladycat Volleyball Team lost in 4 to Fairfield (12-25, 25-22, 18-25, 20-25) on Tuesday, October 15th. Shayla Arthur led the team with 17 kills, Ke’ondra White and Ka’Zem Wood each added 7. Ka’Zem led the offense with 23 assists on the night. Shayla Arthur had a team high 13 digs on the night. Good luck to the Ladycats as they vie for a playoff spot against Mexia tonight (Friday, October 25).

Cross Country Headed to Regional Competition

The Ladycat Cross Country Team clinched the district championship on October 15, 2019, beating Fairfield for the first time in 10 years. Samantha Chaidez finished as our top runner in 3rd place. Yarizeth Garcia finished 6th, Savanna Harris was 7th, Suzy Francia 8th; Kacie Danchak, 10th; Helena Lara, 11th and

Karina Gutierrez finished in 14th place.

The JV team earned the championship as well with six of our seven runners taking the top six spots. Camila Dominguez was the JV Champion followed by

Genesis Giron, Sarai Trejo, Celeste Lara and Lauren Rocha.

The Ladycats earned a spot at the UIL Region III 4-A Championship Meet this coming Monday, October 28, 2019; where they will try to qualify to the State Meet

in Round Rock, TX for the first time since 2009!

The Wildcat Varsity Boys Cross Country Team won the district championship on all three levels on Tuesday, October 15th. The Varsity Wildcats finished with 15 points (a perfect score). All seven runners finished before anyone else on any other team crossed the finish line. Luis Rangel took the district championship, followed by Michael Chaidez, Michael Guzman, Luis Castillo, Garrett Bowden, Raul Ramirez and Jonathan Sanchez. This was the 14th consecutive district

championship for Varsity Boys Cross Country. Junior Varsity scored 16 points (one off a perfect score). The team was led by JV District Champion, Lizardo Lemus. Other scoring runners were Jonathan Chavez (2nd), Tony Garcia (3rd), Diego Farias (4th) and Oben Reyes (6th). In the afternoon session the Junior High team finished the sweep with

17 points (two off a perfect score). The top five JH runners were JH District Champ Jalbert Sandoval, Joseph Fabian (2nd), Adriano Vazquez (3rd),

Dylan Hernandez (4th) and Cruz Villanueva (7th). Varsity will move on to Regionals where they will defend their 2017 and 2018 Regional Championships.

Football

The Wildcat Football Team lost to Van on Friday, October 18th. Freshman lost 16-27 And JV lost 6-13 to Van. The Wildcats are 1-1 in District play and will host Carthage tonight (Friday, October 25). 7th and 8th Grade A Teams both defeated Van. 7th and 8th Grade B Teams remain undefeated on the season.
