Girls’ Basketball Continuing to Have Success!

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team fought hard Friday in two games versus top notch opponents. The ladies secured a win over Hearne and came up short against Hitchcock. Jan’Aa Johnson was impressive with clutch rebounds and points in both games.

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team who went 4-1 in the Centerville Tournament over the weekend. Chynna Logan established her dominance over Kerens and helped the team to a 14 point victory. She was a force inside, grabbing rebounds, blocking shots, and making great post moves for easy baskets. The girls had to fight back to grab a victory in the last game of the tournament. They were trailing by 6 points with less than 2 minutes to play. The team’s full court pressure forced Buffalo to turn the ball over 4 times. Those turnovers lead to a layup and several free throws. Ja'Mya Reeves drove to the basket with 5.7 seconds left in regulation time. She got fouled, and made 2 huge free throws to win the game by 1point over Buffalo.

The Junior Varsity Girls’ team put on an impressive performance Tuesday night while beating Buffalo by 19 points. Despite not having a game for 7 days, the girls were extremely aggressive and effective with their full court trapping defense. They showed much improvement on the offensive side of the ball.

Wildcat Soccer The Wildcats played the Hallsville Bobcats in their first scrimmage of the new season. Varsity put together a 3-1 victory. Andy Garcia picked up the first goal of the game on an assist from Diego Farias. JJ Garcia converted a Luis Rangel pass for the second goal. The final goal of the night was scored by Gary Munoz assisted by Lizard Lemus. The Wildcats got off 14 shots while the Bobcats got no shots on goal and scored their lone tally on a penalty kick.

The JVA defeated the JV Bobcats, 10-1. Raul Ramirez scored 4 goals, Yerry Ayala had 2, Ian Garcia, Ismael Rodriguez, Oben Reyes and Drake Gambrell had the other 4. Assists were handed out by Zavas Molina with 3, Garcia with 2, Andres Rodriguez and Luis Rodriguez with one each.

Varsity and JVA travel to Tyler to scrimmage Tyler Lee and Lufkin on Monday.
