RECYCLING AND TRASH PICK UP IN THE HAMLET

WCA Waste Corporation picks up our recycling on Saturdays and trash pick up is on both Wednesdays and Saturdays. All recycling and trash need to be on the curb by 7:00 AM to ensure that it will be collected. Items that may be recycled in the Hamlet are newspapers, magazines, colored paper, paper bags, folders, phone books, greeting cards, cardboard, cereal boxes, plastics #1-7, pots and pans, glass bottles and jars, aluminum foil and cans, steel and tin cans, gutters, copper and scrap metal. Items that cannot be recycled are plastic bags, Styrofoam, soiled pizza boxes, coat hangers, paint and solvent containers, light bulbs, mirrors, windows, dishes and cups, wet or dirty paper, paper towels, tissue paper, toilet paper and single use plates and cups unless they are marked as #1-7 plastic. Thanks so much for making the Hamlet and the world a greener place to live!

Tree, bush or yard trimmings must be bundled, must not be longer than four feet in length and must not weigh more than 40 pounds. Any branches you include with your trimmings may not be more than three inches in diameter. If they have missed your trash in error, they will arrange to come back by to collect it within 24 hours if you notify them by phone. Please remember not to set your trash out before the evening prior to trash pick up and return your trashcans to your backyard or garage as soon as possible after trash collection. If you have any questions or comments, please contact WCA Waste Corporation directly at 281-368-8397.

PLEASE SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PETYour pet is a cherished member of your family. As their caregiver, you have a very real responsibility to their health and well-being. One of the most important decisions you will make in their care is to have your pet spayed or neutered. By having your female pet spayed before their first heat, you help prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, which are fatal in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Having your male pet neutered can help prevent testicular cancer and control unwanted litters. Female cats usually go into heat for four to five days every three weeks during breeding season, making a lot of noise and urinating often (sometimes in your house!) in an attempt to attract a mate. This will be entirely relieved by spaying your female cat. Unneutered males will roam far from home, risking life and limb in the streets and in fights with other males in the pursuit of a mate. Neutering your male cat is a way of protecting him from the dangers of roaming and fighting in the streets. Spaying or neutering your pet is a great cost savings. The cost of spaying or neutering your pet is

much less than caring for a new litter and there are programs that can aid in the cost of the procedure for low-income families. The cost of the procedure is also considerably less than the medical care for your pet following an accident when your unneutered male escapes or gets into an altercation in the street.

Many people feel that if their pet has a litter it will be a good life lesson for their children to learn about “the miracle of birth.” Your responsible pet ownership is a great lesson to your child! Many unwanted pets end up in shelters every year. Allowing your pet to have offspring you never intended to keep is not the lesson you want to teach. Please consider the large number of educational books and videos about birth, which can fi ll this need for your children responsibly. Spaying and neutering is a great benefi t to your community! When streets are overcrowded with stray animals, driving or going for a walk or bike ride can become dangerous - for both people and animals. Please think about the large number of unwanted animals in our country when you are considering spaying or neutering your pet. Every year, millions of domesticated animals will be euthanized for lack of homes and even more will end up living on the streets. Please be a part of the solution and call to set up an appointment to have your pet spayed or neutered today, if you have not already done so!

DEED RESTRICTIONSPlease take some time to take an assessment of the exterior of your home. A fresh coat of paint is a solid investment in preserving your home. Approved colors for the Hamlet are earth tones. Please submit an architectural review for your chose color and consider this important home maintenance responsibility. If you have replaced your siding and have yet to paint, please do so. Tending to your landscaping can boost your curb appeal, as well as save you greatly in home repair in the long run. Overgrown plants near your home can conceal insect infestation and damage your foundation and home exterior. Now is a good time to take inventory and prune your plants. Avoid planting close to your home.

The Board asks that those of you who have received letters from the management company comply with the requests to abide by the community’s deed restrictions. When you purchased a home in this community, you chose to participate in our rules and regulations. We all want a beautiful Hamlet and every home makes a difference! If you are having diffi culty complying with the request, please contact the management company and explain your situation. Communication is the fi rst step toward understanding!

GRAND OPENING

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEWA new Architectural Review Application is available. This year, there have been some changes in the Texas State laws and our policies have evolved to reflect those changes. The new laws allow for solar energy devices, the display of U.S., Texas and U.S. armed forces flags and rainwater harvesting systems, as well as certain types of shingles. All of these additions to your home would require an architectural review and are only allowed in certain places on your home/lot. The policy changes will be available on the new website www.katyhamlet.org. To avoid penalties, please complete the approval form before you begin any change or addition to your home, which will affect the exterior appearance of your property. Martin Courville is the board contact for architectural reviews; so if you have any questions regarding the approval process or if an application is needed, please contact him at 281-343-6881, [email protected] or contact Lisa Henkhaus at PMG at 713-329-7100. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

PET OWNERSHIP RESPONSIBILITYPets are valued and loved members of the Hamlet community! If you love your pets, please keep them inside your home or your enclosed yard! Your neighbors cannot be responsible for your loved pets and they are not safe outside of your home or yard. All pets in the Hamlet must be licensed, vaccinated and wear proper identifying tags. If your fence is in need of repair, please take time to repair it. A bored pet will find its way into the streets and cannot be kept safe once it is out of your yard. If you encounter loose dogs or cats in the neighborhood, you may call Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services at the following number: 281-999-3191. You may also call this number if you have stray or abandoned animals on your property. Thank you for caring about your pets, your neighbors and your neighborhood!

REPORT INCIDENTSPlease help keep the Hamlet safe and nuisance free by reporting incidents when you notice them. Speeding vehicles, suspicious persons or vehicles and annoying sounds (car alarms that do not get turned off by their owner at any time of day or dogs barking and loud music after 10 PM) are all examples of non-emergency incidents to report to the Harris County Sheriff’s Offi ce. Non-emergency calls should be made to 713-221-6000. Be observant and take down any information that will be useful to the reporting deputy - license plate numbers for speeding or suspicious vehicles, as well as make, model and color of the vehicle, will all make the deputy’s job easier upon arrival. Take down a brief description of any suspicious persons you see - physical description and clothing, as well as where you last saw them and which way they were traveling. If you are reporting an annoying noise, attempt to determine the physical address of where the noise is coming from, so you can inform dispatch when you call.

If your situation requires immediate assistance and you feel it is life threatening, please call 911.

SEX OFFENDERSWilliamsburg Hamlet, like all communities, is not immune from having sex offenders living in the area. Families with small children and teenagers, specifi cally, may wish to familiarize themselves with the registered sex offenders and their locations within our community, as well as their photographs. This information is available to you from the state on the Internet at the following website:

https://records.tdps.state.texas.us

You may search their database for sex offenders in our area by entering the zip code 77493.

HOMEOWNER CHANGE OF ADDRESSIf you have had a change of your primary mailing address, please contact Hilary Chala at Principal Management Group at 713-329-7171 to update our records. Without your current information, pool tag information, annual meeting notices and other valuable information may not reach you. Please take a moment to get our information current. Thank you!

CALL BEFORE YOU DIGIT’S SAFE. IT’S FREE. IT’S THE LAW.

By law, homeowners or contractors planning projects involving digging must call 811 at least 48 hours ahead of time. At no cost, the notifi cation center will alert utilities such as electric, gas, cable and phone companies so they can mark the location of their underground lines.

Following these simple steps can prevent an interruption of service or possible safety hazards:• Call 811 before you dig • Wait the required amount of time (at least 48 hours)• Respect the locator’s marks • Dig with care

Please visit: www.call811.com for more information.

GARDEN TIPS FOR SEPTEMBERTime now to make plans for fall landscaping projects. • Clean up fl owerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead wood. Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates. • Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots. • Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. Follow up with a dose of fertilizer the fi rst week of September. • Plants come out of summer rest and go crazy. Insect populations

2012-2013 CRITERIA FOR FREE & REDUCED PRICE MEALSKaty Independent School District announced its policy for providing free and reduced price meals for children eligible under the federal income guidelines for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program. Go to www.squaremeals.com to view a copy of the policy.

Children living in households whose income are at or below the federally approved levels, based on household size, may be eligible for free or reduced price meals. Transfer students approved for the program from another school district may either complete a Katy ISD application or provide documentation of their eligibility status. Foster children who are the legal responsibility of a welfare agency or court may also be eligible for benefi ts regardless of the income of the household with whom they reside.

The Nutrition and Food Service Department encourages parents in all eligible households to complete an online application prior to the start of school. Visit the district website (www.katyisd.org) for the online application.

A Free and Reduced meal application form and an information letter will also be distributed in the student’s fi rst day packet. A paper application will not need to be completed if you submitted the 2012 - 2013 application online. If your child was on the program at the end of the previous school year, they are eligible for the same benefi t for the fi rst 30 operating days of the new school year or until a new application is processed. A new application is required each school year.

The Nutrition and Food Service Department is located at 5364 Franz Rd, Katy, TX 77493. Staff is available Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 2:30 PM to assist parents in completing the application. Bring the names of all members of the households and their Gross Monthly Income. For any questions, call the Katy ISD Nutrition Department offi ce at 281-396-6240.

Applications are available online, at any district school and at the food service offi ce. Applications may be submitted any time during the school year, which started on August 15, 2012. The information households provide on the application will be used for the purpose of determining meal eligibility. Application information may be verifi ed by school offi cials at any time during the school year.

KATY REBELS GIRLS BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

The 8th Grade Katy Rebels-D’Addieco Team took 1st place in the June 30-July 1, 2012 Primetime tournament in Humble, TX. The team went 4-0 to win the tournament in convincing fashion. The zone defense continued to frustrate opponents and the extra effort to complete every hustle play led to opportunities that made the difference in the games. Their continued commitment to defense allowed them to control the pace of the games and defl ate opponents early, resulting in large margins of victory against quality teams. Congratulations to Allison, LaShanda, Kim, Sydney, Natalia, Alyssa, Emily, Delaney, Tianna and Anna on another successful tournament!

CONGREGATION OR AMIGREAT COMEDY NIGHT - ROSS BENNETTAs comedian Allan Sherman once said, “you don’t have to be Jewish”…… to perform comedy at Congregation Or Ami, West Houston’s only conservative Synagogue, but you do have to be funny. On Saturday, October 13th, nationally renowned comedian Ross Bennett, will perform his unique brand of very funny stand-up comedy at the Synagogue, in an authentic comedy club setting, at 8:30 PM. Bennett, a one time West Point Cadet who left the Academy to become a Comedian (“probably the greatest service I will ever do for my country”), has been performing comedy for over 30 years. Over the years, Ross Bennett has appeared at the Friar’s Club and on many TV programs including “Evening at the Improv.” Bennett also co-wrote and stars in the very funny play, PASTRAMI ON RYE WITH MAYO, about the last 4 comedians performing in the Catskills. The October 13th performance is open to the entire West Houston / Katy community. Please purchase your tickets early, as seating is limited. Congregation Or Ami is located at 3443 Wilcrest Drive Houston, TX 77042. Tickets, which are $36 each, include a wonderful selection of desserts, wine, soda and coffee. Premium seating and group tables are available. For additional information, please check online at www.oramihouston.org or call 713-334-4300.
