Day 2: Whitehorse – Dawson City Driving the famous Alaska and Klondike Highways stopping en route to take pictures of the Five Finger Rapids and other points of interest along the way, crossing some of the great northern rivers such as the Yukon, Pelly and Stewart Rivers before arriving at Dawson City late in the afternoon. Day 3: Dawson City A day in Dawson City with a guided walking tour along Dawson’s historic buildings, Danoja Zho Cultural Centre, SS Keno paddle wheeler, Dawson Museum, Dredge #4, Claim #33, Midnight Dome and Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Casino and Can-Can show. Day 4: Dawson City – Eagle Plains Leaving the last trappings of civilization behind going north on the Dempster Highway stopping frequently to marvel at the immense landscape with alpine creeks, the craggy mountains of Tombstone Territorial Park and treeless tundra crossing several mountain passes to reach Eagle Plains in late afternoon. Here the hotel is also a gas station with repair services the only one on the entire highway. It is not a luxury hotel, but a true northern truck stop, a tiny spot of civilization in the middle of the vast wilderness. (L) Day 5: Eagle Plains – Inuvik Today offers the most spectacular views of the whole trip as we cross the Arctic Circle with panoramic views of the Richardson Mountains. We cross into the Northwest Territories and once through the last mountain pass descend into the seemingly endless Mackenzie River valley to cross the Peel & Mackenzie Rivers by ferry and after another hour and a half arrive at Inuvik. Day 6: Inuvik – Tuktoyaktuk By a light aircraft to Tuktoyaktuk situated in a sheltered bay on the Beaufort Sea where we land to explore the town on foot. The Inuit population here live a partly traditional life style hunting, trapping and fishing and the return flight to Inuvik is on a different route over the famous Pingos (vegetation covered hills with an ice core) and the lake strewn northern tundra. Day 7: Inuvik – Whitehorse We fly Inuvik for Whitehorse with transfer to your hotel on arrival and the rest of the day free to explore. Day 8: Whitehorse Your tour ends on check out from your hotel. Highlights: Visit Dawson City, the heart of the Klondike Gold rush, then on the gravel Dempster Highway across the Arctic Circle to Inuvik with possible wildlife and Northern Lights sightings along the way followed by a light plane excursion to visit an Inuit (Eskimo) community on the Beaufort Sea with return flight to Whitehorse.
