TRAINING AND MENTORING WORKSHOP For Engineering HEIs OBE COORDINATORS
Training/Workshop Mechanics & OBE Monitoring Form Orientation
Alberto A. Laurito TPET-OBE TWG Co-Chair
November 21, 2013
Background
• CMO 37, series of 2012 – Mandates all HEIs with engineering programs to establish an OBE
system; – Now on its first year of implementation; full compliance must be
completed within 5 years; – Goal is continuous improvement of programs and readiness for
outcomes-based accreditation; – By this time, concerned HEIs must have submitted their Institutional
Vision-Mission (IMV), Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Curriculum Maps (CM) through OBE-Monitoring Form 1 (OBE-MF-01)
– The TPET Technical Committees have evaluated the submitted OBE-MF-01 per program of the HEI last October 24-25, 2013.
– Each HEIs offering Engineering programs have been asked to appoint an OBE Coordinator and an alternate who shall be trained by the TPET OBE-TWG and act as liaison person between TPET and the HEI.
– There is a need to train the OBE Coordinators in completing the remaining components of an OBE System. This Training Workshop for selected Mindanao Engineering Schools is now the second of a series.
Training Components
• Writing Performance Indicators
• Selecting Assessment Methods
• Building an Evaluation Process
• Setting Standards and CQI Process
• Developing an OBTL Framework
• Writing an OBTL-based Syllabus
Workshop Mechanics
• Day 1: Review/Revision of Evaluated OBE-MF-01 and Transfer of Information to OBE-MF-02/Writing of OBE Framework and Performance Indicators 1. Each HEI’s participants must get the results of evaluation of
their submitted OBE-MF-01 for their programs from the Secretariat in Excel format. They must open the evaluated OBE-MF-01 and make the needed changes in the worksheets as indicated by the Comments of the TC Evaluator but only for their own program.
2. Transfer any changes made in OBE-MF-01 to the corresponding worksheets in OBE-MF-02. If no changes were suggested by the evaluator just copy and paste the pertinent information to the appropriate worksheet in OBE-MF-02.
3. Complete the OBE Framework Worksheet in OBE-MF-02. 4. Begin completing the PO-PI-AM-EM-ST Matrix by writing 3
Performance Indicators for each of the POs of their own program.
Workshop Mechanics
• Day 2: Completion of OBTL Framework/PO-PI-AM-EM-ST Matrix. 1. Participants must complete the OBTL Framework with
short description similar to the OBE Framework as Annex B.
2. Participants must select the Key Courses that shall be connected to the Performance Indicators for Assessment purposes for all POs in their own program.
3. Participants must brainstorm on 2-3 appropriate assessment methods to measure the identified performance indicators.
4. Appropriate Evaluation Methods shall then be selected to analyze assessment results for each PO.
5. Standards shall finally be set as the minimum acceptable results in the evaluation.
