English This week, we are continuing with our
newspaper articles.
Let’s remind ourselves with this video:

In your newspaper article, you may
want to include speech. Maybe you
interview a Roman soldier or a rich
Roman on how they feel? Remember you need to use your learning and work from last week’s history task to write your
article this week.
Remind yourself on how to punctuate
direct speech correctly.
Here’s a good example…
“I am relieved the empire has fallen; I
no longer want to serve in the army,”
stated one Roman solider.
Mild: Record 5 examples of direct
speech you could use in your
newspaper article.
Spicy: Record 3 examples of direct
speech and 3 examples of indirect or
reported speech you could use in your
newspaper article. Use this video to
help you remind yourself of
reported/indirect speech:

History: During this term, we are going to be focusing on the Anglo-Saxons. This week, you are going to look at how and why they invaded and settled in Britain. Let’s
introduce ourselves to the Anglo-Saxons first, please watch the following video: https://vimeo.com/120476418.
Why did the Anglo-Saxons invade Britain?
1. Fighting: Some Anglo-Saxons were warriors who enjoyed fighting. They thought the Britons were weak and easy to beat without the Romans around.
2. Farming: Many Anglo-Saxons came peacefully, to find land to farm. Their homelands in Scandinavia often flooded so it was tough to grow enough food back there.
3. New beginnings: Whole families set sail across the sea to live in Britain. They brought tools, weapons and farm animals with them and built villages with new homes.

Mild: Create a spider diagram in your home learning book of the different reasons the Anglo-Saxons invaded. Can you draw accompanying pictures?
Hot: Write a paragraph to explain each reason as to why the Anglo-Saxons invaded. Can you draw accompanying pictures?
Spicy: Write a diary entry as an Anglo-Saxon explaining why you are invading Britain. Can you draw accompanying pictures?
Science: Last week, you should have focused on the life cycle of a mammal and a bird. This week, you are going to look at the life cycle of an insect and an amphibian.
This week, you will be using an online lesson on developing experts: https://www.developingexperts.com/accounts/pupil/sign-in. You will have received a parent mail
about using Developing Experts online science curriculum. Follow the instructions on setting up your DE account, click on ‘lessons’ and your first lesson called ‘Describe
the life cycle of an insect and an amphibian’ should be there.
We would like you to use the presentation slides 1-16 only. Look carefully at the key vocabulary you are taught; you may want to record some of these words to use in
your work – a bit like making your own knowledge strip!
Activities: Mild: Draw your own life cycle of a frog (amphibian) and a butterfly (insect) in your home learning book. Write explanations of each stage of the life cycles using what
you have learnt.
Hot: Draw your own life cycle of a frog (amphibian) and a butterfly (insect) in your home learning book and write an explanation of each stage. Complete a table (like the
one below) to identify similarities and differences between the two life cycles.

explain the similarities and a paragraph to explain the differences between the two life cycles.
CHALLENGE: Try the rocket words quiz and the assessment quiz on this developing expert lesson! We would love to see how you do!
Art: In Science so far, we have looked at mammals, birds, amphibians and insects.
This week for your home learning, we would like you to pick any animal which falls into this category. Maybe a tiger (mammal), maybe a ladybird (insect) or maybe
parrot (bird). You can pick! Research their habitat and with what you have at home, use a cardboard box of any sort (preferably a shoe box) to create a shoe box scene with
your animal in! Here are some examples…
You will have 2 weeks to plan and complete this task so do not rush!

Please continue to read as much as you can as this is so beneficial. If you have run out of books to read at home then think about looking at the following website where
you can access thousands of books for free during this time. www.worldbook.kitaboo.com.
Please set aside at least three hours per day for learning but remember to take regular breaks, get outside in the garden and remain
active! It is very strange not seeing you and we miss you a lot, but we know you will be working hard and making the best of the
situation we are in. Take care and stay safe.
