VISITING US? BEEN AWAY FOR A WHILE? WE WELCOME YOU!
Have you been away for a while? You are missed ! Whether it’s been a few
years or a few weeks - we welcome you!
If you’ve been away from the Church - for whatever reason, for however long
or short - we are blessed to have you here to worship and to celebrate the
Eucharist with us. Please continue to join our parish family on Sunday Mass.
Jesus is here! Keep coming, keep praying! Ask questions! You can be sure that
there are others who have walked a similar path and would be happy to listen
to you or help you get answers to your questions. Just reach out to Sharon
Serratore, Pastoral Associate, at 724-926-2984 or [email protected].
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God;
have faith in Me.” John 14:1
Oplatki Christmas Wafers
One of the customs of Christmas is Oplatki.
This tradition originated in Poland during
the early Christian times. It is also popular
in Eastern Europe, including Lithuania and
Slovakia. The Christian custom began with a
single white wafer, baked from flour and
water. The wafers are designed to display
Christmas images, such as the Nativity of
the Lord. Oplatki are enjoyed by families,
typically as the Christmas meal begins.
Generally, the eldest member of the family
will begin the ritual by breaking off a piece
of the wafer and passing it to another
family member with a blessing.
The significance of the Oplatki Christmas
wafer is in that it shadows the Eucharistic
meal that we as Catholics participate in at
each Mass. Just as we share in the Eucharist
as one family in Chirst and receive the
Lords’ love through the Eucharist, the
Oplatki allows for one’s immediate family
to come together and share the love they
have for one another. Consider making
theis tradition part of your family Christmas
meal.
Oplatki will be available in our parishes. A
suggested donation is $3.00 per package.

Consecration to the
Holy Family of
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph
December 29, 2019
Families today face many struggles,
both through cultural pressure and
through the personal struggles that
accompany daily life. Despite these
struggles—and partly as a result of
conquering them—families have
great capacity for love and joy, a
joy that is strengthened through
the peace and truth that is found
in Christ.
Next Sunday, December 29, is the
feast of the Holy Family of Jesus,
Mary, and Joseph. At each of the Masses during this weekend, the families of our parish
will be invited to pray the prayer of consecration to the Holy Family for their own
families. In this prayer, we will ask for the aid or intercession of the perfect son Jesus
Christ, Mary the perfect mother, and Joseph who is a model for every father. The
Knights of Columbus are providing prayer cards, which will be handed out before the
start of all the Masses that weekend.
Each family will be invited to consecrate themselves to the Holy Family and to devote
themselves to the ideal model of familial love set by Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Through
this consecration, you will be accepting the truth that salvation history was changed
forever by a family, and that through your family, your ‘domestic church,’ you are
called to follow their example. Consecration to the Holy Family recognizes that your
family is sacred. We invite every family to take part in this prayer and blessing.
“Love is shown by little things, by attention to small daily signs which make
us feel at home. Faith grows when it is lived and shaped by love. That is
why our families, our homes, are true domestic churches. They are the right
place for faith to become life, and to grow in faith.”
Pope Francis, World Meeting of Families, Philadelphia, 2015

All parishioners are invited to join the "31 Club"
as a way to pray for priestly vocations. Those who
join pledge to perform a spiritual act of their
choosing for this intention (e.g., praying a rosary).
This is done once a month, on the day of one's
birth. There are binders in the back of church for
you to sign up. You may also sign up on the
parish website.
In today’s Liturgy we hear about Mary, the
mother of Jesus, and our mother, too. Mary we
know, and as Joseph learned, was open to the
promptings of the Holy Spirit in giving birth to
the promised messiah, Emmanuel. She was the
human tabernacle for the divine Word that
became flesh. Now she can intercede for us as
we labor to create a new parish. We can be sure
that Mary wants us to bring Christ to our world
through our bonds of faith, hope, and love.
May our new parish surge with great joy and
devotion to our Blessed Mother!
“Hail Mary, full of grace...pray for us, sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death.”
ATTENTION YOUTH GROUP . . .
Our youth ministry will be on hiatus over Christmas
& will start up again in mid-January.

Traditionally there are many young people at the March. Won’t
you join our parish as we defend life? For more info visit https://

We are looking forward to revitalizing the
HEALTH MINISTRY that was begun in some of
our parishes. We are asking all of the nurses in our
six parishes and anyone who would be interested in
helping to come forth and help in the Ministry.
Some of the outreach activities that we’d like to
provide are: taking blood pressures before or after
Masses in each church, visiting shutins, bringing
health speakers, visiting the hospitalized. If you are
a nurse and can possibly help, contact Sharon at
[email protected] or 7249262984.
After the holidays, we would like to have an
informal meeting of all interested volunteers.

Follow-up to the Training for our Eucharistic Ministers . . .
All who bring Communion to the Sick are asked to attend a mandatory training at Our Lady of

churches. Any new people who would like to start this ministry are also welcome, even if you are
not a Eucharistic Minister at Mass. Please RSVP to Sharon at [email protected] or at 724-926-
2984, or register online at https://www.grouping329.org/homebound-em-training.
All Eucharistic Ministers who missed the EM training are asked to visit the parish website to listen

Marriage Moments
In the northern hemisphere, Christmas coincides with the longest
nights of the year. Let darkness be your friend. Pause with your honey
amidst your busy preparations to go outside (even in the cold) and
look at the sky. Ponder your smallness in this universe, but also the
warmth and the gift of your love for each other.
