Silver City Public Library, 2009: Bless Me Ultima Artists Beth Menczer and Diana Ingalls Leyba worked with Aldo Leopold High School students to create this tile mosaic and painted mural, based on the novel of the same name by Rudolfo Anaya. Morning Star, 2006: Southwest Welcome Artist M. Fred Barraza worked with high school students to create this mural incorporating a typical desert lizard and the traditional New Mexico Zia symbol. LifeQuest, 2007: Dream Mandala Artists Zoe Wolfe and Sue Sherman worked with LifeQuest clients and Aldo Leopold High School students to produce autobiographical scenes depicting southwest animals and plant forms. Bayard History Artists Carlene Roters and Diana Ingalls Leyba worked with Fran Morrison’s 6 th and 7 th grade students at La Plata Middle School, who painted scenes on strips of mural cloth illustrating the history of old Fort Bayard–from the Buffalo soldiers and the Nazi prisoners of war to the nurses who cared for TB patients. Home Furniture, 2005: Mimbreno Heritage Marilyn Gendron worked with high school students to create vivid tradi- tional Mimbreno artwork to brighten the south end of Bullard Street. Penny Park, 2012: Center Square (Many Hands) Artists Buck Burns, Riley Olsen, high school interns and campers ages 6-12 created a tile and mosaic tribute to the original Penny Park and the community that made it happen. Artists Marilyn Gendron and Cecilia Stanford worked with elementary students to create a playful mural made of recyclables, revitalizing a run-down park in a down- town neighborhood. Bayard Union Hall, 2005: Salt of the Earth Cobre High School students studied historic photos of the Empire Zinc Mine strike and interviewed surviving participants. Artist M. Fred Barraza & Dayna Griego, who grew up playing in the park, helped students design and create this colorful mural depicting children at play in the Grant County town of Santa Clara. Heritage Window #3, 2009: Hispanic Heritage Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Silver High School students to create this multi-media mural commemorat- ing the area’s Hispanic history. Heritage Window #4, 2006: Anglo Heritage Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Carl Levi’s Cliff High School students to create this multi-media mural commemorating the area’s Anglo history. Heritage Window #5, 2008: Multi-cultural Heritage Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Sarah Pineda’s Cobre High School art students to create this multi-media mural commemorating the area’s varied populations. Silver City Daily Press, 2008: Living Free Artists Kate Brown and Marilyn Gendron worked with intern Nadia Nunez and Sarah Pineda’s art students at Cobre High School to produce this mural on painted mural cloth and tile, highlighting the beauty of the region. Site Sponsor: Silver City Daily Press 20. Visitor’s Center, 2012: Grant County Attractions Phase I of this multi-phase project highlights the ancient history of the Mimbres people. Artists Peter Bill, Diana Ingalls Leyba and Kathryn Allen worked with students from WNMU, Cobre High School and Jose Barrios Elementary to design and assemble the mural. Glazing was done by summer mural program interns. Installation was done by artists Kath- ryn Allen, David Palmer, and intern Junchen Huang. Historic Coca-Cola Bottling Bldg., 2011: Bottling in Grant County Artists Buck Burns, Diana Ingalls Leyba, Susan Berry, Kathryn Allen, Wendy Shaul, and Peter Bill worked with Stout Elementary students, high school interns, and WNMU students to produce this mixed media mural depicting the history of bottling in Silver City.
