Residents of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) woke to scenes of destruction on Wednesday morning, following a violent wind storm, accompanied by thundershowers on Tuesday evening.

Although not of the same magnitude as Hurricane Sandy which hit America’s eastern seaboard this week, the storm was quickly dubbed Hurricane Sandy Lite.

The storm caused a massive power outage in town, and by late Wednesday morning, the Makhado Municipality was still struggling to restore the power supply to many parts of town.

The storm left a path of devastation in its wake, uprooting trees, blowing off rooftops and causing walls to collapse. Many streets were also left almost inaccessible as a result of debris.

Weldoeners ontferm hulle steeds oor die lot van ‘n trop donkies wat nou al vir weke in die munisipale skut op Makhado (Louis Trichardt) aangehou word.

Gemoedere het Dinsdagmiddag hoog geloop toe twee van die donkies uitgesit moes word. Tot op hede word navrae aan die Makhado (Munisipaliteit) oor die toestande by die skut begroet met of niksseggende kommentaar of antwoorde van “Ons weet nie waarvan julle praat nie.” Die lot van die donkies wat in skynbare haglike omstandighede in die munisipale skut, in Industriastraat, aange-hou word, het hewige reaksie vanuit die gemeenskap gelok nadat Helena van den Heever en Esmé Mostert ‘n bewusmak-ingsveldtog op die Facebook-groep Louis Trichardt FUNK MAIL begin het. Dié twee weldoeners is Dinsdag egter wreed ontnugter met die nuus dat Gaatjies en Babatjie, soos hulle gedoop is, uitgesit is. Esmé en Helena het die twee donkies sedert verlede week gedokter, ná ‘n besoek van ‘n veearts. Beide donkies het blykbaar siek geword van blootstelling.

“Daar is te min voer vir al die diere,” het Esmé gesê. Volgens haar word daar net vier bale deur die munisipaliteit verskaf om die donkies en beeste by die skut te voer. Dit is ten spyte van die versekering wat munisipale woordvoerder mnr. Louis Bobodi twee weke gelede gegee het dat die diere tien bale voer per dag kry.

“Hulle waterbak lyk soos ‘n sif,” voeg sy by. Bobodi het Dinsdag gesê die publiek moet ophou om die diere te voer “omdat dit die munisipaliteit se verant-woordelikheid is om dit te doen.” Hy het ook gesê dat mnr. Mathonsi nie die skut-meester is nie, maar wel ‘n verkeersbe-ampte by Waterval. Dit ten spyte daarvan dat Mathonsi homself as skutmeester aan die koerant voorgestel het.

Die Zoutpansberger het ook navraag gedoen oor sekuriteit by die skut. Gerugte wil dit hê dat mense beeste wat nie ge-brandmerk is nie en daar aangehou word, met hul eie brandysters kom merk en dan die beeste opeis. Dié beeste word dan weer vir ‘n wins verkoop. “Ek weet nie

waarna jy verwys nie,” was Bobodi se antwoord op ‘n vraag hierna. Intussen het die plaaslike Dierebeskermingsverenig-ing (DBV) se inspekteur, mnr. Lawrence Khodobo, ook Dinsdag bevestig dat die munisipaliteit wel tydelike water- en voerbakke voorsien het. Hy was van me-ning dat die munisipaliteit uiteindelik ‘n poging aanwend om toestande by die skut te verbeter. Hy sê die donkies kry ekstra voer en wei elke dag.

Wat die uitsit van die donkies betref, het hy gesê dit was ‘n weldeurdagte besluit, omdat die donkies swaar gekry het. “Die

publiek het nie ‘n sê in die aangeleentheid nie. Dit is die munisipaliteit se donkies en hulle verantwoordelikheid,” het Khodobo gesê. Die DBV se mev. Bea Reimer het Khodobo se stelling beaam en gesê dat mense wat nie die nodige kwalifi kasies het om na sulke diere te kyk nie, dit eerder nie moet doen nie. Sy het gesê dat die DBV vermoed dat die donkies van Zimbabwe afkomstig is en hulle vrot van vreemde siektes en parasiete kan wees. Die oorblywende 37 donkies sal op 7 November op ‘n publieke veiling van die hand gesit word.

More charges have been brought against Brighton Chauke, who was one of the Soutpansberg’s most wanted criminals for almost a year.

The 30-year-old Chauke ap-peared in the Louis Trichardt Re-gional Court on Monday. He was once again charged with, among others, violent armed robberies, after his daring escape from police custody in Musina in October 2010. At the time of his escape, Chauke was awaiting trial for a murder case in Musina, together with his brother, Shorty Chauke. Shorty (42) has since been sentenced to 45 years’ imprisonment on these armed rob-bery charges.

After almost a year on the run, Chauke was rearrested on 7 August 2011 by members of the Waterval SAPS. Since his re-arrest, he has been positively connected to many others violent armed robberies,

housebreakings and attempted murders.

During Monday’s appearance, Chauke appeared on the three charges that his brother had been convicted of. These charges relate to three robberies in April 2009 at three different businesses in Makha-do (Louis Trichardt). Of these, one was caught on security camera. In the meantime, an additional nine charges were also brought against Chauke. They include seven counts of robbery with aggravating circum-stances, one count of murder and one count of housebreaking with the intent to steal. He will face trial on these counts in the Thohoyandou High Court, together with his co-accused, Victor Ndlovu (40) and Douglas Ndou (28).

On Monday, Chauke’s case was postponed until 4 and 5 February next year. He will remain in custody until then.

As the slaughter of South African rhinos continues, the wheels of justice keep on turning at a slow pace.

The sentencing of businessman Yahya Shoeb Jiwa of Makhado (Louis Trich-ardt) has yet again been placed on hold.

The 45-year-old Jiwa appeared in the Musina Regional Court last Friday. He had already pleaded guilty in July this year on charges relating to restricted activities on a special protected species without the necessary permits. Jiwa was arrested in February last year when he tried to buy rhino horns from a police agent.

Since pleading guilty, Jiwa has been awaiting his sentence. Instead, his defence team has asked for yet another postponement. They requested a pre-sentencing report to be compiled by the Department of Correctional Services to support a petition to ask the court for correctional supervision of Jiwa rather than a jail sentence.

During Friday’s court appearance, Jiwa’s lawyer fervently denied allega-tions that he was delaying his clients sentencing. The lawyer further informed

the court that he was only in posses-sion of Jiwa’s probation officer’s report and that the report from Correctional Services would only be completed by the end of November.

The court granted a final postpone-ment and warned Jiwa that his sentenc-ing would continue with or without the report. He will have to appear in the Musina court again on 9 January.

In another, unrelated case, Dawie Groenewald and his nine co-accused were also back in the Pretoria High Court on Friday, in connection with the State’s seizure of their assets to the value of R55 million. The seizure was an interim order that was granted by the High Court in May this year. All 10 are charged with, among others, offences relating to the illegal trade in rhino horn. During Friday’s court proceed-ings, the State brought an application to have the seizure order made permanent. At the same time, the State’s curator also asked that the assets, including the rhinos and game on Groenewald’s farm, be sold. The curator said he did not know how to farm and that he was

Hume. Hume is a business associate of Groenewald. Judge Prinsloo also ordered the State to foot Groenewald and his co-accused’s legal bill.

Still on the subject of rhinos, the trial of the five men accused of illegally hunt-ing rhinos in the Alldays area is set to begin early next year.

The five, January Machava (37), Juda Nyembe (38), Matthew Pedro Ngwenya (42), Thomas Sibanda (33) and Hum-bulani Reason Matutu (29), appeared in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court on Monday.

They are charged with three counts of the hunting of specially protected wild animals and two counts of pick-ing up or removing dead wild animals. The charges were brought against them when they allegedly killed two rhinos and attempted to kill a third and hack off the horns.

On Monday, the State withdrew its case against Matutu after he had decided to become a state witness. The case against the remaining four was post-poned until 11 and 12 February of next year. Machava, Nyembe and Ngwenya are out on bail, while Sibanda remains in custody.

There were also some new develop-ments in 39-year-old Jacques Els’s case. Els, who was found guilty on charges relating to the illegal hunting, trafficking and possession of rhino horns without the necessary permits, has already served four months of his eight-year jail sen-tence. He might be released on bail soon, however, after his petition for leave to appeal against his sentence was granted by the High Court.

A date for his bail application has yet to be set by the Louis Trichardt Regional Court.

The Bermudan government sent a plaque to the Zoutpansberg Skirmishes Museum in the Soutpansberg area.

Mr Andrew Birmingham of Bermuda presented the plaque, a coat of arms of Bermuda, to Mr Charles Leach, local historian, tour guide and author, at a function at the Lalapanzi Hotel on 27 October.

At the event, Birmingham spoke on the boer prisoners of war who were interned on the Bermuda Islands for a year from June 1901. Bermuda is in the western Atlantic ocean and it took a month for the prisoners to sail the 12 800 km.

“The Boer POWs got the same rations as the British army. They were treated with some dig-nity,” Birmingham said at the function, attended by people from Louis Trichardt, Polokwane and Johannesburg.

There were 4 619 boer prisoners of war, of whom 850 were under the age of 19. The youngest was six years old and the oldest 78. Of the prisoners, 35 died on Bermuda and six died en route. The deaths comprise less than 1%. In comparison, the concentration camp in the former Pietersburg had around 3 600 inmates, mostly women and children,

“The low percentage of deaths in Bermuda is a testimony to the excellent medical care that was given on the islands,” Birmingham said. As long as the prisoners adhered to military rule, they had relative freedom to conduct their own affairs. They engaged in many activities, including a debating society, gymnastics, fishing and farming.

“Their greatest legacy, however, was the souve-nirs they made, the bulk of which had been carved out of Bermudan cedar wood. They were industri-ous and inventive. Their articles represented life in South Africa. They made, among other things, wagons, tiny ploughs, goblets and a small boot with a snake popping up, symbolising their guerrilla warfare. The boots with the snakes, as symbol of their biting the British army, have been found in St Helena, India, Ceylon and Bermuda, where the prisoners of war were,” Birmingham said.

The subgroups, the “bittereinders” and “hensop-pers”, were kept on different Bermudan islands to avoid conflict. When the Anglo Boer war ended on 31 May, 1902, and the prisoners returned home to South Africa, the “bittereinders” (about 300) refused to sign a certificate pledging fealty to the British King. The last “bittereinder” in Bermuda died in 1927.

Among the prisoners was a medical doctor, Dr August Schulenburg. His son, Dr Carl Schulenburg, not only visited Bermuda where his father had been detained, but also was one of South Africa’s foremost authorities on the Bushveldt Carbineers (BVC). In writing his authoritative book on the BVC, Leach made extensive use of the Schulenburg Collection, housed in the National Army Museum in London. When Leach visited London in an ef-fort to scrutinise these valuable sources, he was not allowed to do so. UK-born Andy Birmingham of Bermuda, however, had made copies for Leach before he donated the Schulenburg Collection to the London Museum.

“Andy, we are indebted to you for your amazing commitment to our South African heritage and history,” Leach said.

Ladies Circle 4 (LC4) in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) showed their support towards the national Santa Shoebox Project on Friday, 26 October, by helping to collect and donate “shoe box” gifts of their own to the project. The Santa Shoebox Project is an inspiring community initiative of the Kidz2Kidz Trust that co-ordinates the donation, collection and distribution of personalized gifts at Christmas time to underprivileged children across South Africa and Namibia. time,” say the ladies from Agora. They add that people should also give consideration to wildlife that do not have the physical and emotional intervention of caring pet owners.

“In this age of technology, we can create celebratory dis-plays that are thrilling and joyful without endangering ourselves, others, pets, wildlife, property and the environment. For too long, elderly people, children and animals have been traumatised

by the anti-social behaviour and danger involving fireworks,” the ladies state. They realise, however, that fireworks will remain a holiday fixture in most communities around the world, despite the increased acceptance of alternatives such as laser light shows and fairy light processions set to music.

“ So, pet lovers, speak to your veterinarian to medicate your pets,” urge the ladies.

Tien bome is hierdie week ge-plant om vir die afkap van een ou reus te vergoed.

Louis Trichardt Superspar het in September ‘n groot Oos-Afrikaanse mahonieboom van so tussen 30 en 40 meter hoog op hul parkeerterrein verwyder, nadat die wortels die plaveisel begin oplig het.

Lede van die publiek was ont-steld dat dit noodsaaklik was dat dié pragtige boom afgekap word. Die eienaar van die Superspar, mnr. Luke Enslin, het toestem-ming by die grondeie naar, mnr. Eddie Da Silva, verkry om die boom af te kap.

Enslin het ook die Departe-ment van Omgewingsake in die saak geken as ‘n gebaar van welwillendheid. Omgewingsake se mnr. Alan McMurtrie se voor-stel aan hom was dat hy 10 bome aanplant vir die een wat afgekap moes word. Enslin het McMur-trie gevra om ‘n keuse te maak waar die tien bome aangeplant moet word, maar McMurtrie het die keuse aan Enslin oorgelaat.

“Ek het op die hoërskool be-sluit, omdat ek gedink het die bome sal goeie waarde toevoeg vir die skool en die kinders.

Die hoofleiers van Hoërskool Louis Trichardt plant die eerste van 10 rooi-essen-houtbome. Voor is Chris van Wyk (links) en Kofi Apea-Adu (hoofseun) besig. Agter, van links na regs, is Francois Mostert, mnr. Enslin, Talita Kloppers (hoofmeisie), Carin Bezuidenhout, Tsakani Baloyi en mnr. Theo Muller (adjunkhoof).

Die rooi-essenhout is ‘n prag-tige immergroen boom, bekend vir sy digte skadu. Dié boom word sowat 20 meter hoog. Hy groei ook vinnig, sowat een tot

twee meter per jaar. Die groot dag vir die aanplanting het op 29 Oktober plaasgevind, met die plant van die eerste boom. Vyf van die bome sal op die bult tussen die seunskoshuis en die skool geplant word en vyf aan die oostekant van Leeu park.

Tafelronde Zoutpansberg 66 van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) het die afgelope naweek vir die tweede keer in drie jaar as wenners van die Clint en Michelle Hayward Vlotresies op die Tzaneendam uit die stryd getree. Die resies is gehou ter nagedagtenis aan die Hayward-egpaar wat in 2004 wreed vermoor is by die Mountain View Hotel, met Clint wat aanvanklik die resies begin het. Na die egpaar se dood het die resies vir etlike jare nie plaasgevind nie. Vanjaar het die Tafelrondes van Louis Trichardt, Tzaneen en Phalaborwa om die trofee meegeding. Competition

Due to its popularity, the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror extended the closing date for entries to their annual calendar photo competition until Friday, 9 November.

This year’s prize money once again totals R6 000, with 12 win-ning pictures to be chosen for each of the year’s months. Winning entries will be published in an A2-format 2013 calendar, which will be used by the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror for marketing pur-poses. The calendars will also be sold to the public at a minimal fee.

Only high-resolution photos of subjects unique to the Soutpans-berg and surrounding areas will be considered for the competition.

The competition is limited to fi ve entries per photographer, which should preferably be submitted in digital format. Cellphone or postcard-size photos will not be considered.

All entries must clearly indicate who the photographer is, their contact details, where and when the photo was taken and what camera was used.

’n Donker wolk van kom mer en on seker heid het van dees week oor die land bou sektor gehang ná die aan kon diging van pres. Jacob Zuma se nuwe grond her vormings plan.

Verskeie land bou ken ners en orga nisa sies het die haal baar heid van dié nuwe plan ern stig be-vraag teken.

Louis Mein tjies, voor sitter van TLU SA, het aan LiN Media gesê: “Om grond te koop, van wie ook al, teen 50% van mark waarde — wat Zuma nou beoog — kom neer op on teiening of selfs nasio-nali sering. Van hier die gronde kom uit boe dels, wat bete ken dat wedu wee en wese bena deel sal word.”

Volgens hom kom Zuma se belofte dat kom-mer siële boere wat deel neem aan hier die projek, SEB-status sal kry en hulle grond veilig sal wees, neer op afper sing.

“Dit is ’n geval van ‘help ons om ander boere te iden tifi seer en te ver wyder, en jy is veilig’,” het hy gesê. Boere wat dalk nie die ver moë het om hier by in te skakel nie, loop dus die risiko om tog onder werp te word aan knel lende wet gewing.

“Ons prio riteit in Suid-Afrika moet wees om genoeg kos vir ons mense te verskaf,” het Meintjies beklem toon.

Jaco Bogaards, voor sitter van die Water berg Distriks land bou-unie (DLU), het gesê ’n mens kan sien die ver kie sing is alweer om die draai. Die rege ring is be kend daar voor dat hy in sulke tye be-loftes maak. “Ons bevraag te ken die haal baarheid van Zuma se plan en is be kommerd oor die ekstra las wat dit op reeds-swaar-belaste boere sal plaas. Nog kommer siële boere sal hier deur gedwing word om uit die land bou te tree en dit sal voedsel seker-heid in Suid-Afrika nog verder in ge drang bring.”

Die rege ring moet ook nie buite reke ning laat dat die ver hoging van die petrol- en diesel prys ook eks-tra druk op die land bou plaas nie, het hy bygevoeg. “Mens won der ook of dit wel die beleg gings ver-troue sal bring waar na Zuma in sy her vormings plan

“Die feit dat Zuma pro beer om die onse ker heid en gebrek aan beleg-ging in land bou met hier die voor stelle aan te spreek, bete ken dat hy wel deeg lik ken-nis ge neem het van my kritiek in die ver lede oor die mis luk king van die hui dige grond her-vormings pro ses.”

Volgens Mulder is die voor stelle om wel die

kwes sie van grond her vor ming af te wentel na die plaas like gemeen skap, ’n stap in die regte rig ting. “Die plaas like land bou ge meenskap is in ’n baie beter po sisie om voor stelle oor grond wat oor ge-dra kan word, te maak. Hulle ken ook die plaas like ge meen skap en weet wie sal kan slaag as boer op sulke grond.”

In die ver lede is hier die pro ses vanuit sen trale kan tore kilo meters daar van daan ge doen en is grond aan per sone oor handig wat geen werk like be lang of wens ge had het om dit pro duk tief te benut nie.

Zuma-plan plaas boere onder erge druk

Pres. Jacob Zuma het dié week sy nuwe grond her vormings-plan tydens die eerste jaar-verga dering van die Afri can Far mers’ Asso ciation of SA (Afasa) in Pre toria be kend gestel.

Elke dis trik in die land sal vol-gens die plan verant woor delik-heid neem vir grond her vor ming en die finan sie ring daarvan. “Dit is ’n inno ve ren de voor stel wat ge toets moet word,” het Zuma Maan dagaand, 22 Ok tober, gesê.

“El ke dis trik moet ’n grond-her vormings ko mi tee daar stel waar alle rol spelers betrok ke is. Die ko mi tee moet 20% van die kom mer siële land bou grond in die dis trik iden ti fi seer en gee vir kom mer siële boe re die op sie om te help om dié grond oor te dra na swart boere.”

Zuma se grond hervor mings-voorstel sluit vyf stappe in:

* Grond wat reeds te koop is, moet eer stens geïden ti fi seer word. Dit is grond waar die eie-naar oor lede is, waar die boer finan sieel onder er ge druk is, en plase waar die eie naar nie self boer nie en die grond wil ver-koop. “Só kan grond ge vind word sonder om die mark te ver wring,” het Zuma gesê.

* Die staat sal dan dié grond teen 50% van die mark waarde koop. Die res van die 50% sal op ge maak word deur kon tant of by draes van die distrik se kommer siële boere wat vry willig deel neem aan die proses.

* In ruil hier voor sal hierdie kommer sië le boere derdens die waar borg hê dat hul grond nie af ge vat sal word nie. Daar be-newens sal hul le swart bemag-tiging status kry. “Dit sal die onseker heid en wan troue asook die verlies aan beleg gers ver troue

wat daar nou oor grond her vor-ming is, uit die weg ruim,” het hy ge sê.

* Vierdens sal die tesourie, die Landbank en gevestigde wit boere meer geld gee vir die fi-nansiering van die program. “Die koste van grond her vorming sal verdeel word onder al le rol spe-lers. Nuwe finan sië le instru men te sal ont werp word om grond her-vorming te be vorder.” Dit sluit in ver ban de wat oor ’n periode van 40 jaar strek, met voor keur-rente koerse.

* Die vyfde aspek van die plan is meer na vor sing in landbou.

Maar hoe sê mens anders as baie dankie aan ‘n meelewende Louis Trichardt-gemeenskap? Soveel ondersteuning, simpatie, blomme, oproepe en SMS’e van die gemeenskap van hierdie dorp het ons verstom laat staan.

Om name uit te sonder sal nie regverdig wees nie, want hulp en ondersteuning het van oral ingestroom (en doen nog steeds)!

Baie, baie dankie daarvoor en ook aan almal wat Tiaan se begrafnis bygewoon het, asook dié wat Waterpoort toe is om Tiaan daar te groet by sy geliefde rusplek. Al sy vriende wat ons gesin so ondersteun het, baie dankie vir julle en glo my, julle het almal ‘n spesiale plekkie in ons harte!

Ons as gesin gaan vir Tiaan ontsettend baie mis, maar ons put vertroosting daaruit dat ons weet dat Tiaan by Vader Jesus is waar ons weet hy baie gelukkig is!

Dankie vir meelewende gemeenskap

Several congregations of the Reformed Churches of South Africa held a joint sermon on Sunday in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), as part of the church’s reformation celebrations. Well-known Bible translator and emeritus professor Koos van Rooy held the sermon. In our photo are the ministers, elders and deacons of the different congregations.

Parkering in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) se middedorp teen R11 per uur? Effens duur, maar dit is presies wat die Makhado Munisipaliteit in ge-dagte het met die implemente-ring van ‘n nuwe betaalde par-keertariefstelsel vir inwoners.

Ingevolge die nuwe stelsel sal motoriste vooraf die tarief moet betaal by munisipale beamptes wat met handtoestel die strate patrolleer. In Braamfontein in Johannesburg is ‘n soortgelyke sisteem in Desember 2010 in werking gestel teen R7.50 per uur. In Oktober vanjaar is berig dat die tarief R8 per uur is, maar dat dit in Julie volgende jaar ver-hoog gaan word na R8.50 per uur.

“Hierdie bedrae van R5.50 vir 30 minute of ‘n gedeelte daarvan en R11 per uur is buitensporig,” sê mnr. Phillip Olivier, bestuurder van die Soutpansberg Belasting-betalersvereniging (SBBV). Hy het die vergadering bygewoon waar die Makhado Munisipaliteit aangekondig het dat die nuwe stelsel, in samewerking met ‘n privaat maatskappy, goedgekeur is.

Die maatskappy het in hulle verslag genoem dat daar ongeveer 1 200 aangeduide parkeerplekke in en om die sentrale besigheids-gebied bestaan. Die totale aantal

voertuie wat in dieselfde ge-bied parkeer, is dikwels meer as 3 200. “Daar is dus behoefte aan ‘n addisionele 2 000 parkeerplek-ke. In spitstyd word 93% van die parkeerplekke in die middedorp gebruik en in hierdie tyd is slegs 27% van die parkeerplekke beskikbaar vir tydelike parkering. Ongeveer 79% van die karre staan langer op die parkeerplekke as die aangeduide limiet. Gemid-deld 40% van die parkeerplekke word vir die hele dag gebruik,” lui die maatskappy se verslag.

“Waar gaan die ekstra 2 000 parkeerplekke kom? En waar gaan daar gratis parkering beskikbaar wees?” is vrae wat die SBBV vra. Hierdie vrae, asook die vraag of die buitensporige tarief verlaag gaan word, is aan die munisipaliteit gevra. Die mu-nisipale bestuurder, mnr. Sakkie Mutshinyali, het geantwoord dat die navrae aandag geniet, maar dat dit dalk twee weke kan neem om antwoorde te verskaf.

In Johannesburg werk dit so dat die motoriste hulle kwitansies op hulle motors se instrumente-paneel moet vertoon sodat die parkeerbeamptes dit duidelik kan sien.

Die gedrukte kwitansie sal die voertuig se registrasienommer, die tyd, datum en die bedrag

vertoon. ‘n Boete van R200 (of R100 indien dadelik vereffen word) word daar gehef vir mo-toriste wie se voertuie vir meer as twee uur op ‘n parkeerplek staan (www.joburg.co.za). Die stelsel steun swaar op parkeer-beamptes, wat tans kla dat hulle geen basiese salaris ontvang nie, maar slegs 15% kommissie op dit wat hulle kollekteer. Die Me-troraad ontvang glo 20% tot 40% van die inkomste. In Parkhurst, waar die stelsel sedert Maart vanjaar geïmplementeer is, oor-weeg die inwoners sowel as die besigheidsmense regsaksie teen die metroraad omdat hulle nie voldoende gekonsulteer is nie.

Plaaslik is inwoners deeglik bewus van die dorp se bestaande parkeermeters wat van meet af aan probleme gegee het. Die probleme het begin kort nadat die munisipaliteit besluit het die vorige meters moet teen hoë koste vervang word. Hul poging was duidelik ‘n mislukking. Daar is selfs ‘n nuwe pos geskep vir ‘n persoon om die huidige meters te onderhou. Duidelik het dié persoon nie sy werk gedoen nie. Volgens inligting beskikbaar sal die aanvanklike befondsing en werking van die projek die ve-rantwoordelikheid van die privaat maatskappy wees.

Duur parkering binnekort ‘n realiteit

Die nuutverkose voorsitter van TLU SA Noord, mnr. Stephen Hoffman, het sy tevredenheid uitgespreek met die TLU SA Noord se eerste jaarkongres wat op 17 Oktober by die Weesgerus vakansieoord plaas-gevind het. Hy het die hoop uitgespreek dat dit ‘n jaarlikse instelling gaan word.

Die tema van die kongres was: Groen: Die kleur van die toekoms. Bewaar, Bewerk, On-derhou en Bestuur.

Lede is vir die duur van die kongres deur ‘n formidabele span deskundiges ingelig oor uiteenlo-pende onderwerpe wat spesifiek op boerdery van toepassing is.

Dr. Franci Jordaan en mnr. Dieter Jordaan, wetenskaplikes by Noordwes se departement van landbou, het gepraat oor indring-erplante; Mnr. Arnaud le Roux van Sondela Natuurreservaat en African Conservation Trust het gepraat oor gif en die bewarings-bewuste boer; Senior omgewing-

sbeampte Kobus Pienaar se tema was: “Voëls het ‘n storie om te vertel” ; Mnr. Dwight Rosslee het inligting verskaf oor Biogas-krag; Mnr. Fritz van Oudshoorn se onderwerp was Bosveldgrasse, terwyl mnr. Deon Cilliers van die Endangered Wildlife Trust ‘n lesing aangebied het oor roofdier konflikhantering in die Waterberg en ook inligting verstrek het oor die trust se veewagtershond-projek.

Lede is deur Dwight Rosslee van Biogas-Power uitgenooi om in November een van hul biogas-aanlegte naby Cullinan te besoek om te sien presies hoe so ‘n aanleg vir die verwerking van plaasafval opgerig word en hoe dit funksioneer. Die TLU SA Noord se nuwe dagbestuur is Stephen Hoffman, Doors le Roux, Roné Hennop en Steven Vermaak. Hoffman

het besondere waardering uit-gespreek teenoor die vennote wat die kongres moontlik gemaak het. Die borge was Agricol, BMG-Bearing Man Nylstroom, FNB Landbou Besigheid, Fruit & Veg Warmbad, Hi-Q Warm-bad, Josef Botes Sand & Klip, Levubu Droëvrugte, Pick ‘n Pay Warmbad, Toyota Nylstroom, Vleissentraal Bosveld, Warmbad Landini, Waterberg DLU en die Weesgerus-vakansieoord.

Hoffman het na afloop van die nasionale kongres wat op 22 Ok-tober in Pretoria plaasgevind het, ook gelukwense oorgedra aan die TLU SA se nuwe nasionale uit-voerende komitee onder leiding van die president, mnr. Louis Meintjies, en sy adjunk, mnr. Henry Geldenhuys. Hoffman het gesê TLU SA is bevoorreg om dié gehalte leiers te kan kies. Hy het alle verkose leiers verseker van die volle samewerking van die personeel en elke lid van die TLU SA Noord.

On the 50th anniversary of their class, a widower and widow met up with two other singles.

They had a wonderful evening, their spirits high. The widower was throwing admir-ing glances across the table, with the widow smiling coyly back at him.

Ligging: Die projek word voorgestel op die plaas Gotha 102 M, Musina Plaaslike Munisipaliteit.Voorgestelde akitiwiteit: Biotherm Energy (Edms.) Bpk. stel die oprigting van ’n kommersiële fotovoltaïese sonkragaanleg voor (wat hetsy van fotovoltaïese (FV) of konsentrerende fotovoltaïese (KFV) tegnologie gebruik sal maak) op ’n terrein naby Musina, Limpopo-provinsie.

Die aanleg sal die volgende infrastruktuur insluit:- Fotovoltaïese (FV) of Konsentrerende Fotovoltaïese (KFV) panele met ’n uitvoervermoë van tot 75 MW. Die voorstel is dat die panele tot 20 m hoog sal wees (sou KFV tegnologie gebruik word). - ’n Nuwe substasie op die terrein om die krag van die aanleg af na Eskom se kragrooster te evakueer via die Venetia Substasie wat langs die voorgestelde ontwikkelingsterrein geleë is. Die alternatief sou wees om direk by die bestaande Transmissielyn in te skakel wat met die noordoostelike grens van die terrein langs loop. - Monteerstrukture van hetsy vasgestampte staalsuile of suile met voorafvervaardigde betonfondamente om die FV/KFV panele te dra.- Kabels tussen die projekkomponente, ondergronds gelê waar prakties moontlik.- Interne toegangspaaie en ’n heining.- ’n Werkswinkelgebied vir instandhouding, berging en kantore.

Op Sondag, 21 Oktober, het Tafelronde Zoutpansberg 66 besoek ontvang vanaf Gonubie Round Table 182 ter ondersteuning van die nasionale projek genaamd Wings and Wishes. Die projek se doel is om kinders te help met vervoer en vlugte na en van hospitale en sorgsentrums. Gonubie ry elke tweede jaar met Honda bromponies vanaf Oos Londen tot in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) en terug ter ondersteuning van hierdie projek. Braambos Laerskool se Graad 4 tot Graad 7 leerders het vanaf 9 tot 11 Oktober die Schoemansdal Omgewingsopvoedingsentrum besoek, waar klem gelê is op leierskap. Van die aktiweite was “Formule 1” (waar die groepe hulle eie motor moes bou om mee resies te jaag), “Minute to fun it” (waar die leerders se vaardighede met onder meer balanseertoue getoets is) en ook “abseiling”. Die leerders het baie geleer en baie goed saamgewerk. “Baie dankie aan Schoemansdal se personeel wat ons so hartlik ontvang het en die paar dae so interessant gemaak het,” sê die groep.

Hierdie groep Graad 9 leerders is Hoërskool Louis Trichardt se top akademiese presteerders na afloop van die derde kwartaal. Perfect weather, well-behaved horses, keen riders and an enthusiastic audience all contributed to a spectacular fi nish to the recent summer gymkhana at the Rondebosch Riding School outside Makhado (Louis Trichardt). Organiser Sarah Coronaios thanked all who attended, with special mention of Danie and Val Louw for bringing their beautiful Friesians and carriage, the two faultless time-keepers, Angela Ball and Jernay McLeod, Elizma Pohl for her incredibly hard work at producing the gorgeous rosettes, Kos Coronaios for working tirelessly in the background to keep everyone fed and refreshed, and of course, last but not least, the school´s incredible pupils who put so much time and effort into making the day happen.
