In layman’s terms, 100KVA is enough for a single housing development of about 30 small flats or 20 small housing units, but not enough for a development the size of Makhado Crossing or even a restaurant in need of more than 100KVA to run its kitchen. Other factors that contributed to growing concerns over a total collapse of the town’s electrical infrastructure included rumours of major budget cuts in mainte- nance, due to a lack of funds, a massive backlog in maintenance and the poor quality of service. “Severe constraints, lack of bulk capacity, huge maintenance backlogs, poor quality of supply and service. This, they said, is to still allow the economy to grow. Secondly, in line with the national restrictive norm in respect of the capacity constraints, the municipality added, they also adopted a restrictive approach, mainly due to the current capacity constraints experienced at the town’s main Eskom substation. Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is at present gripped in a major electricity supply crisis, but, says the Makhado Municipality, a total collapse of the entire electricity supply network is not likely.

Amidst the town’s continued water supply and sewage problems, few residents are aware of the town’s dire electricity situation, mainly because the lights are still on. The sheer scope of the crisis came to the fore in the municipality’s response to a question by the Zoutpansberger about the present state of the town’s electrical network with regard to capacity, maintenance and development. This and other questions were put to them when it became known that the municipality is at present not approving any new developments of which the electricity demand exceeds 100KVA. In layman’s terms, 100KVA is enough for a single housing development of about 30 small fl ats or 20 small housing units, but not enough for a development the size of Makhado Crossing or even a restaurant in need of more than 100KVA to run its kitchen. Other factors that contributed to growing concerns over a

total collapse of the town’s electrical infrastructure included rumours of major budget cuts in mainte-nance, due to a lack of funds, a massive backlog in maintenance and the poor quality of service.

“Severe constraints, lack of bulk capacity, huge maintenance backlogs, poor quality of supply and service. With the resources available we can only manage emergency maintenance,” was the response received from the municipality on Tuesday.

This, they said, is to still allow the economy to grow. Secondly, in line with the national restrictive norm in respect of the capacity constraints, the municipality added, they also adopted a restrictive approach, mainly due to the current capacity constraints experienced at the town’s main Eskom substation.

(Contd from P1)“The substation is running [at] full load and has

reached overload conditions in the recent past. This overloading has severe financial implications for the municipality with regard to maximum demand exceedence penalties to Eskom. Furthermore, it has technical risks in terms of the quality of sup-ply and services to all the customers connected to this substation. Therefore, all applications that

Major electricity crisis looming as funds dry upexceed 100kVA are referred by detailed technical report to top management for consideration, tak-ing into account all risks. Small- to medium-size applications directly related to bulk services such as sewerage, water etc. are being approved as its cuts across all customers of the municipality. Very large applications cannot be considered as the main substation cannot currently supply these loads,” the municipality said.

The municipality’s current NMD (notified maxi-mum demand, which is the size of the electrical supply granted to the municipality), is 44MVA. The municipality has admitted that the town’s elec-tricity demand already exceeds the supply at times .

“We have already recorded 43.5[MVA] in December 2012, 44.1 in June 2012, and 45 in November 2011. The exceedence has therefore occurred once each financial year but was for-tunately just below the penalty threshold,” the municipality said.

In light of the obvious electricity supply con-straints, the municipality was asked why the town’s electricity quota has not been upgraded. They responded by stating that the municipality had applied for an upgrade. It is, however, unlikely that such an upgrade will take place in the near future as the municipality has no money to do this.

The Zoutpansberger could determine that it would cost in the region of R100 million to upgrade the town’s present 44MVA capacity to 100MVA.

“This is the correct figure … It must be noted that this cost will only be on the Eskom side and the municipality’s side will also have to be upgraded. No cost has yet been determined in this regard. The 100MVA is to address the immediate demand and to cater for the next 20-30 years’ possible growth of the town,” the municipality said. Worryingly enough, the municipality also indicated in their reply that “due to financial constraints, the mu-nicipality was and is not in a position to lay out this huge amount of capital for the upgrading”. The municipality’s dire financial situation with regard to the much-needed and urgent upgrade of the town’s main substation is also reflected in the draft budget for 2013/14. “The budget is not making provision for any substation as the amount is just too high. Applications are currently being launched with financial institutions in order to try and obtain funding for these projects. A new ap-plication is made to Eskom for the Levubu supply at the Eskom Ribolwa substation. The costs hereof are approximately R60mil. A further R8mil is

needed on the municipal side to inter-connect to the Eskom grid and to secure enough capacity to the Beauford substation in Levubu. Should this materialise, it will free up approximately 10MVA in the Makhado main substations, which can then be used for further development up to 44MVA again,” the municipality stated.

The municipality’s draft budget for 2013/14 further shows that an amount of R42 601 000 has been budgeted for the electrical department. All projects are to be funded from municipal income, except the R25 million to be financed by the INEP for infrastructure development in Eskom areas. If one takes the R25 million away, as well as the R1,7 million to be spent on vehicles and just more than R1 million on tools and equipment, about R15 million is left for actual infrastructure development and maintenance in the whole of the municipal area. The municipality was asked if they thought this was enough.

The municipality responded by stating: “The electrical engineering funding for both capital and operation can never be enough. We have a huge backlog on maintenance of the entire network. Although the budget reflects these amounts, it most of the time does not materialise, hence the backlog becomes bigger by the year. “

The big question was whether the municipality could assure residents and developers that a total collapse of the town’s electrical infrastructure is not imminent.

“A total collapse of the entire network is not likely, due to the fact that we have seven intake points at different places in the municipality. What can happen is that very long delays in restoring power failures may occur due to a lack of adequate resources to attend to urgent emergencies. Sub-standard quality of supply may be a major risk. If the restriction has not been put in place over the last couple of years the town’s network might have collapsed by now,” the municipality stated.

The Institute of Municipal Finance Officers (IMFO) recently awarded the acting internal audit manager of the Makhado Municipality, Ms Laura Mabunda (middle), the trophy for Internal Auditor of 2013. Only the Makhado and Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality received these awards in April this year. The criteria used in awarding the trophy mainly focused on officials who have made positive contributions to their municipalities with regard to the proper functioning of the internal audit and risk management units. With Mabunda, from left to right, are Mr Sakkie Mutshinyali (municipal manager), Mabunda, and the mayor of Makhado, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi. Photo supplied.

Reward for financial management

Thousands of commuters around the Makhado area were left stranded since last Friday as bus drivers went on strike due to a national wage dispute.

The South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Sa-tawu) announced a nationwide strike last week as a result of a deadlock in wage negotiations. Workers were demanding an 18% increase in wages, while employers were offering 6.5%.

The bus strike came as a blow to thousands of cash-strapped local consumers. Many of them had already paid for their month-ly bus tickets and battled to try and find extra money to pay for taxis.

Maitele Madzunga is one of the stranded commuters who now have to queue for taxis. “We are always forced to queue for an hour before a taxi arrives to pick us up at the taxi rank. We have tried to talk to taxi owners about our frustrations, but nothing is happening.” Maitele complained that he could not go to work as

he did not have money to pay for a connecting trip.

“I am not opposed to the strike, but I am worried about the way it took place. They should have told us that they will not trans-port us, so that we could have arranged alternative transport. Now we do not have money and we are marked as being absent from work, but we are sympathetic to the cause of the drivers,” he said.

Satawu’s provincial coordina-tor, Sam Lefuwa, said that they would only go back to work after an agreement was reached with the workers. In reaction to the no-work-no-pay policy, Lefuwa said the language used to explain the Labour Relations Act was very clear, that as long as they had the right to strike, it remained at the discretion of the employer to implement the no-work-no-pay rule.

He accused the bus owners of using the rule to scare off the striking drivers. “We view it as a bold statement to scare our members, but we are determined

to suffer until our demands are met,” he said.

One of the bus drivers, Mr Dickson Mashele, said they worked under trying condi-tions and they were not well compensated, which left them and their families to suffer. “We have voiced our challenges in a peaceful and honourable way, but it fell on deaf ears as employ-ers do not want to listen to us. We have decided that enough is enough and we will not go back to work if they do not reply to our demands,” he said.

The chairperson of Vhembe Bus Operators, Mr Livhuwani Madzuse, said that a no-work-no-pay policy was in place. “We are not going to pay them for the times they were not in the workplace.”

Madzuse said that commut-ers who had bought tickets would receive a discount when they bought tickets for the next month. He said that commuters had to produce the previous month’s ticket when they went to buy a new ticket.

So gesê, so gedaan.

“… en 20 minute later hoor my pa twee skote.

skielik my olifant,” sê Pieter.

“Ek is woedend.

Boer erg ontstoke ná bewaarder olifant skiet

“Ek is woedend.

Altwee hierdie renosters se horings was verwyder.

skryf ds.

Inbetalings kan gemaak word by die NG-kerk Levubu se rekening by Absa, rekeningnommer 1000 000 198, verwysing Krielfonds.

By Frans van der Merwe

When the Makhado Municipality officially refers to “Makhado” it does not really mean “Makhado”.

It may refer to Makhado which is now not Makhado anymore but to Makhado which has be-come Dzanani. Well, not necessarily the Dzanani which you might have in mind, but that Dzanani which became Dzanani when Makhado stopped being Makhado and Dzanani became, well, some-thing else.

To clearly distinguish between that Makhado and this Makhado, that Makhado on the other (northern) side of the mountain is now being refered to as Makhado-A, most probably meaning that there is also a Makhado-B, which might be this Makhado or maybe the Makhado on the other side of the Limpopo Border in Zimbabwe, which, of course, might also be referred to as Makhado-C, or the other way round.

This delightful alphabetic confusion ( caused by a series of compulsary name changes), came to light when residents of this Makhado (previ-ously Louis Trichardt) were perturbed to read an advertisement by the Makhado Municipality in the Zoutpansberger of 12 April announcing the proposed permanent closure of a park, described as “Erf 1982, in Makhado-A township Extension 1” for development purposes. Because no street names were mentioned, the big guess was: Which park is going to be developed into what?

This advertisement by the Makhado Municipal-ity states that particulars of the application will lie for inspection during normal office hours at office number C001 on the first floor of the civic centre in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), which has at least two parks in Extension 1 but none numbered as Erf 1982. The closest any town map of this (southern) Makhado will bring you to such a number is Erf 1983, situated in Extension 2, adjoining a totally differently numbered erf already fully developed.

Office number C001 (the office of the director: development planning) at the local civic centre can only be accessed through a door announcing that entry is exclusively for staff members. If you as a member of the public do enter on invitation of the advertisement and reach office C001, you will find it thoroughly locked, with no chance whatsoever of inspecting whatever particulars of the application might be lying there. Why? Because the office re-ferred to in the advertisement is not at all in the civic centre in Krogh Street anymore. It is now accom-modated in the Noor Centre in Songozwi Street, next to Choppies - where Checkers used to be.

Here a friendly young town planner will clarify the secret of Erf 1982, on a neat map of Makhado-A Township Extension 1, being part of an exist-ing park in Dzanani, previously Makhado (on the northern side of the mountain, but still south of the Limpopo).

An alphabetic confusion of epic proportions

Foto verskaf.

The newly launched Bee Friendly Project aims to stimulate bee conservation, especially in the populated regions of the Soutpansberg.

This project is the initiative of Mr Chris James, who is a bee keeper and environmentalist from Makhado (Louis Trichardt). The Bee Friendly Project aims to address the threat to bees by making trap hives available to the public. These specially prepared hives will then provide a nesting site for migrating swarms of bees. Once the bees have moved into the special hive, they can easily be relocated without unnecessary harm.

Recently it would seem that the Sout-pansberg has seen a decline in its honey-bee population. Bees are the insects that play a critical role in terms of agriculture. According to James, there is an annual migration of bees from low-lying regions

to the mountain. In the late summer, food becomes scarce on the plain and bees follow the scent of nectar to the bluegum plantations on the mountain, which flower from February to May. Some of these bees also find their way to the town’s gardens, which have plenty of food to offer to the bees.

On farms, bees that settle into planta-tions represent a fire risk. People who are after the honey rob the hives with the aid of fire. This also leads to forest fires. For many years, says James, forest owners, in cooperation with beekeepers, have successfully reduced the fire hazard by trapping these migrating bee swarms and moving them to apiaries where they can be better managed. This then led to the birth of the Bee Friendly hive project.

These wooden hives can easily be fixed in a garden for a swarm to move into. Once

they have established in the hive, the bees can then be moved easily. The bees will then be saved where, under different cir-cumstances, they would have been killed because they endanger human life.

Cater Pack has agreed to be the local distribution depot of the project’s trap hives. People interested in joining the project can buy their first hive from Cater Pack. Thereafter the hive will be replaced by James, free of charge, when the hive is collected to relocate the bees that have taken up residence in it.

James, who is the owner of National Velvet Apiaries, will use the bees that he has collected at his apiaries for pollina-tions services and honey production in the Cape Bee-free zone. “This will boost the total bee colony numbers in the area, with special benefit to agriculture in the area,” says James.

I’ve seen in my life: all the stars and the planets. It was perfect! If only we could live on other planets…,” commented Ricardo Cranko on the stargazing evening organised by the Grade 4s of Ridgeway Independent School on 18 April.

The Grade 4s and their class teacher, Mr Jaco Ehlers, were grateful for the clear skies. Mr Kos Coronaios of the Soutpansberg Astronomy Club (SAC) started off by treating the learners and par-ents to a view of the moon nearly in its first quarter, projected from a telescope onto a screen.

Excitement ran high when the children could view the planets Jupiter and Saturn through the eyepiece of the telescope. The viewing was a defi-nite highlight and was mentioned by all the children in their reports on the evening. Zain Kalla was impressed by the huge telescopes. “Saturn looked like a ring and Jupiter looked like three moons,” Thendo Mafela remarked.

Mr Kos, as the children called him, pointed out the closest stellar system (Alpha Cantauri) with its earth-sized planet, as well as some of the brighter stars in the constellations Canis Major and Orion. The distance between Alpha Centauri and the earth, about 4.2 or 4.3 light years, made an impression on Zain.

“One hour was never going to be enough, but we still managed to include a scaled-down version of the solar system and the Milky Way to help the youngsters understand the vast distances and speeds associated with astronomy, as well as a clip showing the challenges that NASA faced in landing Curiosity on Mars,” Coronaios said.

The evening ended with a view of the fuzzy star in the middle of Orion’s sword, known as the Great Nebula. The Grade 4s and their parents brought along picnic baskets. “My mom bought KFC, but I didn’t even look at it; I was just interested in the stargazing,” Ricardo wrote in his report.

There must be a better way of doing it - Schultz “There must be a better way of doing this,” remarked AfriForum on witnessing how the municipality had made huge holes all over the place in search for sewer pipelines. Where are the infrastructure maps?

The major sewerage spill in the veldt at the corner of President and Ruh Street in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is a cause of great concern and constitutes illegal pollution. Local AfriForum chairperson Mr Wally Schultz was appalled when he saw at least four holes dug in the same vicinity by a municipal back actor in search of sewer lines.

The quest for the sewage lines was sparked or accelerated by the actions of AfriForum of laying a criminal charge against the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) for pollution of the environ-ment. That specifi c sewage overfl ow, which spills sewage into the town’s river and natural water sources, tested a faecal coliform bacteria count of more than 1 000 000 per 100ml. The count for untreated sewage fl owing into a natural water source should, by law, not exceed 100 000. “We warned the VDM that they had 48 hours to correct it,” Mr Julius Kleynhans (AfriForum Head: Envi-ronmental Affairs) said on 12 April. High counts of faecal coliform bacteria pose a risk to humans and animals if ingested.

One hole was dug right at the sewage spill and consequently a sewage waterfall erupted. Another hole was dug adjacent to the fi rst one, but the pipe they found was not the right one. Another hole of about three meters deep was excavated adjacent to a block of fl ats and was left open. The holes were all about 50 to 60 meters away from the new bore-hole in the veldt in President Street. Then another

hole was dug on the other side of the borehole, and so on…

“They are wasting time digging holes on a thumb suck. There has to be a more effi cient way. It took two working teams how many days to dig those holes. Mr David Mukosi of the municipal water services, a very polite and helpful person, told me that he does not have a map of the sewer lines,” said Schultz.

A former municipal official said that there used to be battery-operated machines to locate sewer lines. There also used to be a map of the underground sewer infrastructure, and whenever engineers upgraded the system later on, they obvi-ously had to use infrastructure maps that could be located from them.

VDM’s water services manager, Mr Eric Ma-sakona, responded promptly to the request for a sewer infrastructure map and said that they were not in possession of such a map.

Questions on the sewer infrastructure maps put to the Makhado municipality have not yet been answered.

In the meantime, the certifi cate of analysis of the sample test of the sewage spill states that “when discharged this effl uent will cause serious harm to the environment, aquatic health and down-stream users… The suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand, faecal coliform bacteria, as well as the free and saline ammonia concentration of the sample exceeded the general discharge limits.” The standards used to evaluate the water were the Wastewater Discharge Limits as stated by the national Water Act, Act 36 of 1998.

S o w a t 1 0 d a e n á d i e telefoonka bels by Laerskool Louis Tri chardt in die slag gebly het, nadat ‘n munisipale trugrawer operateur ‘n waterlek wou herstel, is die kommunikasielyne herstel.

A hole of about three metres deep was excavated adjacent to a block of fl ats in a foot path and was left open. Mr Wally Schultz, local AfriForum chairperson, measures the dangerous open hole near the corner of Ruh and President Street with a reed.

Esteemed guests, friends and family attended the official grand opening of the new maternity ward of Quality Care Private Hospital in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on Saturday, 13 April.

Among the guest were the Limpopo MEC for Health and Social Development, Dr Nor-man Mabasa, who also formally opened the newly built maternity ward of the private hospital. The Quality Care Hospital is the brainchild of Dr Patrick Tigere and his wife, Caroline.

Three years ago, the couple set the ball in motion to obtain the land and permit for their vi-sion of an own private hospital. The building complex in Grobler Street in which the Quality Care Clinic is situated already houses the offi ces of Dr Tigere’s gynae-cological practice, a pharmacy and a coffee shop. Over the next couple of years, the hospital will also be expanded to accommo-date 86 hospital beds and a the-

atre. The hospital, which already functions as a sub-acute step-down facility, currently boasts 12 hospital beds in the maternity ward. This will enable prospec-tive mothers to make use of the facilities, whether they choose to make use of Dr Tigere, who is a qualifi ed gynaecologist, or not. The hospital is designed this way to make it possible for patients

to receive various gynaecology-related treatments from Dr Tigere and other specialists who will visit the hospital.

Dr Mabasa, in his opening speech, remarked that Quality Care Private Hospital will bring specialist treatment to the more rural areas of the province and improve the quality of life of its people.

Dr Norman Mabasa, MEC for Health and Social Development in Limpopo, was one of the honoured guests during the offi cial opening of the Quality Care Hospital in Makhado (Louis Trichardt). From left to right, cutting the ribbon, are Mabasa and Makhado Municipality councilors Mesdames Lindiwe Mogale and Teobgo Morobela.

Mnr.

In 2011 moes ‘n sakeman, mnr.

Tourism

Steady flow of tourists during Easter period in spite of the flood damageThe CEO of the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), Nocks Seabi, expressed his satisfaction on behalf of the agency, following the great turnout of tourists in the province over the Easter holidays.

Seabi said that the tourism industry in Limpopo received its fair share of the pie during the Easter Weekend, with the tourism establishments in the province recording a high occupancy rate. Day vis-its to recreational facilities proved to be a favourite amongst locals and visiting friends and relatives.

On behalf of the agency, Seabi thanked all the people involved, including the service and hospital-ity sectors of Limpopo. He urged them to continue spreading their warmth as they welcomed visitors into the province.

“We are of the view that this made us good hosts and will result in repeated visits, thereby increasing the economy of the province,” he said.

Spokesperson for the agency Kgatla Ntlhekeng said that there had been a decline in terms of visitors to Limpopo Wildlife Resorts (LWR).

These LWR resorts include the Doorndraai Dam in Mookgophong, Dinyala in Lephalale, Nylsvley in Modimolle and Rust de Winter Dam in Rust de Winter.

Ntlhekeng said that resorts had recorded 5 538 visitors this year, compared to the 10 403 visitors last year during the same period. He said that this was largely due to the flood damage that the resorts had experienced this year, which led to the closure of some of the biggest “cash cows” in the province.

Seabi said that the LTA was working around the clock to ensure that these resorts were brought back to full functionality, so that visitors and tourists could enjoy their favourite holiday destinations.

He concluded by expressing his heartfelt con-dolences, on behalf of the agency, to the families and colleagues of the five SANDF members killed in a helicopter crash in the Kruger National Park recently. (LiN News / The Beat)

His message was clear: Avoid bad friends, be passionate about books and reading, and do not to be distracted by social networks and other things which could un-dermine and destroy one’s career.

The team from the base, un-der the leadership of Brigadier General Schalk van Heerden, were on a road-show campaign to promote aviation awareness in the Botlokwa community. Despite a limited budget in the

SANDF, the base still manages to conduct these road shows.

Lt Mohau Vundla from 85 Combat Flying School AFB Makhado shared his life story. He said it wasn’t easy during his school days but, because he was determined to achieve his goals, he had to focus on his studies and work hard to achieve his ambition to become a fighter pilot in the SAAF. Like any other applicant, he applied to join as a pilot and his dream came true when the SAAF called him for an interview. He then completed his basic military training at the SAAF Gymnasium until he was sent to AFB Langebaan to receive his training as a fighter pilot. Lt Vundla now serves as the flight safety officer (FSO) at

85 Combat Flying School, apart from his daily duties as a fighter pilot.

Requirements to join the SAAF fascinated the learners. Lt Emily Mabitsi told them ap-plicants must be RSA citizens in the age group of between 18 and 22, in good health and with a Grade 12 certificate with English and having passed maths and sci-ence, with at least a D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on stan-dard grade for those who want to pursue their careers as pilots, navigators, engineers, air traffic controllers and other technical fields. Those who are between 23 and 26 years of age, must pos-ses a Grade 12 certificate and a diploma/N6 or a degree in order to be accepted in the SAAF.

AFB Makhado staged a successsful road show to inform schools in the Capricorn district about careers in the SA Air Force. Pictured here are members of the aviation team and grade 10, 11 and 12 learners of various schools of Botlokwa. Photo supplied.

Die Weg, die Waarheid en die Lewe

Hy het meer van die geskenkpapier gehou. Matteus 6:24-34

Ons liggame is belangrik, ek weet dit want ek leef in my liggaam. Die belangrikste deel van my is egter my siel. My siel sal vir ewig lewe.

Thank you for being such a super ambassador for the Soutpansberg

About the newspaper report Film-ing an experience of a lifetime

for extras, I wish to say to Charles Leach: Thank you for being such su-per ambassador for the Soutpansberg.

Baie dankie daarvoor.

Namens die breë Soutpansberg bevolking: We salute and treasure you!

 Elthea Schlesinger

Thanks for cutting the grass and making the road safer for cyclists

The management, members and families of P&L Cycling Club

and fellow cyclists of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) would like to thank Mr Barries Grobler of Grootklip for his goodwill and kindness.

Unselfi shly, he cut the grass next to the Vivo road from Makhado (Louis Trichardt) to Schoemansdal. This wonderful act of kindness and support is an example of how we as citizens can care for one another.

After the numerous, nationwide incidents were cyclists became

victims on our national roads, this safety measure makes a huge impact on keeping the area next to the roads visible for both cyclists and motorists.

We would also like to thank Ayob Motors for sponsoring enough diesel to make this venture possible. Even though you guys are not active cyclists, you are defi nitely model citizens with hearts of gold.

There is simply no excuse for rape

Let me speak my mind on this is-sue that has dominated our news

and our conversations. I cannot turn a blind eye when the nation is being blinded by such tragedies that are purely evil. Rape is evil; it is murder to the soul; theft to one’s body and an invasion of one’s mental state that will probably haunt them for a lifetime.

You see, the problem is that you kill someone’s self-esteem; you kill their will for life; you kill their sense of being. Thereafter, we expect them to walk with this grave, expect them to be silent and smile. Rape is invading one’s mental state, to suddenly think that a beautiful thing is the most evil thing on earth. They might never defeat the fear in-stilled and even if they do, they will have to fi ght wars that you started and left running.

There is no excuse, yes! None at all for your selfi sh behaviour. There is nothing strong about mak-ing someone feel weak. There is nothing manly in displaying your power on a helpless child, women or granny. It is weak; not only weak, it is disgusting. It is inhumane and a refl ection of your decaying soul, that’s if you still have one. It is a heartless act and I refuse to accept any excuses such as “I was drunk”, “her skirt was too short” or “she was seductive”. A two-year-old did not grab you by your zip and forced you in, neither did the girl take off your pants and put your d*** under her short skirt. If you are men, you would not blab any excuse. There is no excuse at all, none whatsoever, for you raping a child, a woman or a granny.

 Lufuno Maliaga

It took a very brave man to say this:

A son asked his mother the following question:

‘Mom, why are wedding dresses white?’ The mother looks at her son and replies:

‘Son, this shows your friends and relatives that your bride is pure.’

The son thanks his Mom and goes off to double-check this with his father.

‘Dad why are wedding dresses white?’

The father looks at his son in surprise and says:

‘Son, all household appli-ances come in white.’

“Why does that cow not have horns?” vra sy.

And this is why we love Africa

Spanish singer Julio Iglesias was on television with British TV host Anne Diamond when he used the word “mañana” (pronounced “manyana”).

Diamond asked him to explain what it meant.

He said that the term means “Maybe the job will be done tomorrow, maybe the next day, maybe the day after that. Or perhaps next week, next month, next year. Who really cares?”

The host turned to Mr. Sipho Msondtlwana from South Af-rica who was also on the show and asked him if there was an equivalent term in his native language.

He replied: “In Africa we don’t have a word to describe that degree of urgency.”
