2 AMSOIL ACTION NEWS / DECEMBER 2006

A. J. “Al” AmatuzioPresident and CEO, AMSOIL INC.

It is the goal of everyone here at the AMSOIL corpo-rate headquarters to help our Dealers succeed in thisbusiness. As I have said many times before, when ourDealers prosper, the company prospers, so your suc-cess is always a priority with us.

AMSOIL provides many ways to help Dealers buildand profit from their businesses, including the Retail-on-the-Shelf and Commercial Account sales pro-grams, catalog sales, internet sales, the Fund RaisingAccount program, and the Preferred Customer pro-gram. These are all in addition to a Dealer’s ownpersonal sales and downline group sales.

We all know that the key to maximizing successin this business is to multiply our individual effortsby recruiting and training new Dealers and buildingan active downline organization. Many Dealers havefound that signing up Preferred Customers and even-tually converting them to full-fledged Dealers is oneavenue that works very well for them.

Once a Preferred Customer has experienced thequality and performance of AMSOIL products andlearns more about the AMSOIL opportunity fromthe complimentary Action News subscription we sendthem, they are often very receptive to starting anAMSOIL business of their own. Most Dealers begantheir experience with AMSOIL by using our products. They were so impressed with the performance of theproducts, they became Dealers.

There are many reasons for people to becomePreferred Customers. As a Preferred Customer, theyare able to purchase the full AMSOIL product line andmany other non-AMSOIL products at wholesaleprices. We are fast becoming a one-source shop forpeople wanting to buy high quality automotive, lubrication, and car care products at reasonable prices.

A good example of our one-source marketing con-cept is the addition of Mothers automotive appear-ance products introduced in this issue of Action News.Mothers products have earned a superb reputationnationwide for quality and performance, much likeAMSOIL lubricants, so they make a great addition toour product line.

Also like AMSOIL, Mothers has a wide selection ofproducts. They cover the gamut of appearance prod-ucts, from polishes and waxes to carpet cleaners andtire care treatments. These are products that nor-mally sell at full retail prices and it’s rare to find theentire product line at one location. Now the entireMothers product line can be purchased by Dealersand Preferred Customers at wholesale prices fromone source . . . AMSOIL.

Going back to my original statement about doingeverything we can do to help you build your business,we know that by adding this new line of Mothersproducts to the growing number of high qualityproducts we already offer, we make it easier for youto attract Preferred Customers, some of which willbecome your future downline Dealers. That is thepoint of the one-source marketing concept, to giveyou more to offer your customers.

As I write this, the Holiday Season is right aroundthe corner. Thanksgiving is just a week away, and bythe time you read this, Christmas will be fastapproaching.

I have a lot to be thankful for. This little oil com-pany I started almost 35 years ago has grown both insize and prominence and has helped thousands ofpeople realize their dreams. Today, people know whowe are and that we make excellent products. Once westood alone as the only synthetic motor oil manu-facturer in the country. Now, every major oil com-pany has joined us with their own brand of syntheticmotor oil.

We used to publish an ad that I really liked. It said,“Imitation is the greatest form of flattery . . . and weappreciate it!” We have been imitated many timesover the years, but I can assure you we have neverbeen duplicated.

I wish every member of the AMSOIL family awonderful holiday season with happiness and pros-perity in 2007. Thank you for putting your trust andloyalty in AMSOIL for another year. We make a greatteam!

The crowd at the 2006 AMA National Motocross at Glen HelenRaceway in Devore, Calif. was able to see firsthand the superiorqualities of AMSOIL SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil (MCF).

AMSOIL Quality Displayed atNational Motocross

Direct Jobbers Shannon and Tricia Dicus representedAMSOIL at the 2006 AMA National Motocross at GlenHelen Raceway at Devore, Calif. in early September.More than 26,000 race fans attended the event in oneday. The booth was stocked with virtually every AMSOILproduct.

“During the four days of the event our AMSOIL salesteam came in contact with more than 6,000 racers, fansand motorcycle industry professionals,” said Shannon.“We signed more than 50 new Preferred Customers, several retail-on-the-shelf accounts and new Dealersand generated numerous leads for our downline.”

AMSOIL popularity and brand recognition has grownon the West Coast, particularly in the arenas ofmotocross, Harley Davidson, cruiser motorcycles andin the diesel industry, Shannon said.

The group decided an experiment would draw cus-tomers to the booth and demonstrate the superiorcapabilities of AMSOIL motor oils.

Dealer Cort Heibert, who holds a degree in chemistry, heated up other industry motorcycle oils to 450 degreesF for 10 minutes documenting boiling point, sedimentbuild up, separation, color change and stability. Thesamples were then cooled and placed into clear con-tainers for the customers to view.

AMSOIL SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil (MCF)was then heated for twice the amount of time and the

same categories tested. Heibert was able to prove first-hand that AMSOIL Motorcycle Oils can go the dis-tance. Heibert’s test showed no sediment build-up, nosignificant color change and superior stability com-pared to other popular motorcycle oils.

“People were just absolutely fascinated by thedemonstration,” said Tricia.

Professional riders Kevin Windham and Josh Grantfrom the AMSOIL co-sponsored motocross team signedAMSOIL jerseys that were donated to the Fire andPolice Motocross Nationals (FPMX). In turn, FPMX willauction the jerseys as a fundraiser for R.I.S.K. (RightInformation Saves Kids). R.I.S.K. provides sports safetyequipment, such as helmets, to children whose familiescan’t afford the equipment.

“It was really cool that these pro riders took the timeto do that,” Tricia said.

“This event was extremely successful for our busi-ness and my team,” Shannon said. “It was a very visualevent. My team wore pit shirts and hats, and the boothdisplayed large AMSOIL logos. Thanks to the Co-opProgram at AMSOIL, we had all the literature and pro-motional items to pass out to potential customers.

“With the backing of AMSOIL corporate and myteam’s hard work we further cemented AMSOIL as thepremiere lubricant on the West Coast.”

“It was definitely awesome exposure,” said Tricia.

MOTHERS® ProductsAirborne contaminants, corrosive pollutants and harsh envi-ronmental conditions can all contribute to the prematureaging of a car’s paint. Regular washing and waxing can easilymake the difference between a long lasting, luminous glow ora dull, dumpy finish. Proper vehicle maintenance involvescleaning paint and keeping it clean, which is a much smarterchoice than trying to repair distressed, damaged paint.Mothers® offers a unique and wide product line that includeseverything needed to clean, polish and care for vehicles.

The Mothers® product line is divided into fourdistinct categories: Reflections®, FX, Power

Products and California Gold/MothersOriginal. Each unique product categoryhelps consumers decide what types ofproducts best suit their vehicles as well as

MOTHERS®

California Gold®/Original ProductsMothers® California Gold®/Original products are optimal fordetail-oriented vehicle owners who have time for a weekendclean-up and detail job. These products are ideal for use at carshows or other opportunities to show off the true beauty of avehicle.

According to Karl Dedolph, AMSOIL Directorof Aftermarket Products, “Mothers® prod-ucts are an extensive line for multiple marketsand enthusiast types. AMSOIL ACTION NEWS /DECEMBER 2006 11

Over the years, Americans and Europeans have beenworlds apart when it comes to diesel vehicles. Dieselpassenger vehicles have been popular in Europe foryears, and they become increasingly more populareach year. In fact, according to a survey performed byEurocarprice.com and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, dieselcar sales in Europe are on pace to exceed gasoline carsales in 2006. Even in the United Kingdom, which hasthe highest diesel fuel prices in Europe, gasoline-fueledcar sales dropped 11 percent last year while diesel-fueled car sales increased by more than 7 percent.

In America, diesel passenger vehicles have tradi-tionally been a tough sell, with many Americans har-boring negative impressions of diesel vehicles as beingnoisy, polluting and foul-smelling. However, industryexperts predict a dramatic comeback for diesel pas-senger vehicles in America. According to TechnoMetrica, diesel vehicles may eventually become as common inthe United States as they are in Europe, and J.D. Powerand Associates projects diesel sales to nearly triple in theUnited States over the next decade, accounting formore than 10 percent of U.S. vehicle sales by 2015.

Diesel technology has come a long way since the1970s, and stringent new federal diesel emissionsrequirements take effect in 2007. As the 2006 modelyear expires, most of the year’s diesel vehicle modelswill be discontinued, giving way to a new generation ofdiesel engines designed to not only meet stringent fed-eral clean air requirements, but also be as quiet andodor-free as gasoline engines, increase fuel economy

by 25 to 40 percent and provide enough torque to sat-isfy American drivers.

A significant breakthrough in this new era of cleandiesel technology was this year’s introduction of UltraLow Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel. Sulfur is a key element toparticulate formation, and ULSD eliminates 97 percentof pollution-causing sulfur. While present diesel pas-senger vehicles can be sold in all states exceptCalifornia, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts andNew Jersey, automakers plan to take advantage ofnew Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel and advances in dieseltechnology to create diesel engines that meet the pol-lution requirements in all 50 states.

Automakers are developing different pollution-reduc-ing technologies for future diesel passenger vehiclemodels. For example, DaimlerChrysler and GeneralMotors plan to introduce engines that inject urea into thecylinders during combustion. Honda, on the other hand, recently announced the development of a new catalyticconverter that significantly reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx).

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40Premium Diesel Oil

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oil (DEO)provides unsurpassed protection for modern dieselengines requiring API CJ-4 emission quality oil stan-dards. It withstands the stress of heat, soot and acidsto prevent deposits, corrosion and wear, while its broadviscosity range offers superior protection over a widetemperature range. Synthetic 5W-40Premium Diesel Oil is recommendedfor the longest service interval estab-lished by the vehicle manufacturer, and drain intervals may be extendedfurther based on oil analysis. It is com-patible with all exhaust treatmentdevices and designed to extend theservice life of particulate filters.Synthetic 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oilreplaces 5W-40, 10W-40 and 15W-40 viscosity oils and is “backwardscompatible” with pre-2007 dieselengines.

What are the differences between gasoline and diesel engines?A gasoline engine compresses a mixture of gasolineand air, which is ignited with a spark from a sparkplug, while a diesel engine creates heat by compress-ing air only. The fuel is injected into the compressed air, where the heat ignites it.

Diesel engines are more efficient than gasolineengines because their compression ratios are higher.

Diesel engines compress at ratios between 14:1 and25:1, while gasoline engines compress at ratiosbetween 8:1 and 12:1.

Diesel fuel is more efficient than gasoline due to itshigher energy density. One gallon of diesel fuel containsapproximately 147,000 BTU, while one gallon of gaso-line contains about 125,000 BTU.

12 AMSOIL ACTION NEWS / DECEMBER 2006

AMSOIL was built on providing motorists with superiorsynthetic lubricants. As the first company to produce afull-synthetic motor oil to meet API requirements,AMSOIL burst onto the scene with a product that somepeople simply weren’t ready for. Those who wereembraced it and took full advantage of the extendeddrain capabilities and superior protection AMSOIL MotorOils offered.

Today, there are still people who aren’t ready toaccept the viability of 25,000-mile/one-year extendeddrain intervals. For whatever reason – warranty con-cerns, desire for an API certified oil or the classic 3,000-mile brainwashing – some customers don’t wantdramatically extended drain intervals.

XL Motor OilsFor customers who prefer shorter drain intervals,AMSOIL offers its XL line of synthetic motor oils. AMSOILXL Synthetic Motor Oils are API certified, full-syntheticengine oils with a recommended minimum drain intervalof 7,500 miles or six months, whichever comes first. While they don’t provide the level of protection pro-vided by the AMSOIL 25,000-mile oils, the XL line stilleasily trumps any petroleum-based motor oil as well asmost other synthetics on the market. In fact, when an oillife monitor or used oil analysis is employed, AMSOIL XLMotor Oils easily remain suitable for continued servicefar beyond the recommended 7,500 miles.

25,000-Mile OilsThe AMSOIL stable of extended drain motor oils remainson the forefront of lubrication technology. Advancedchemistries made from only the finest base oils andhighest-quality additive packages allow AMSOIL motoroils to provide unsurpassed protection and perfor-mance for up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichevercomes first. There’s no denying the quality of theseoils. Billions of miles and more than 30 years of real-world use have proven their superiority time and time

again. Until recently, AMSOIL users taking advantage ofthese extended drain intervals were forced to changetheir AMSOIL SDF oil filter mid-interval. Other brands ofoil filters required even more frequent changes.

Ea Filters for Longer Drain IntervalsIn 2005, AMSOIL introduced the Ea line of filtrationproducts. Ea Air and Oil Filters provide the absolute bestfiltration available to the auto/light truck market.Nanofiber synthetic media and extended service inter-vals brought a new level of convenience to AMSOIL cus-tomers. For the first time, AMSOIL users takingadvantage of the 25,000-mile oil drain interval wereable to leave their oil filter in service for the entire inter-val. While Ea Filters provide the ultimate in filtrationperformance for extended drain intervals, what aboutthose who choose the AMSOIL XL line of oils?

WIX Filters for Shorter Drain IntervalsWhile installing an AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter along withAMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oil ensures maximum pro-tection, it also goes beyond what is necessary for theseapplications. Motorists choosing to use the XL oilswould be money ahead to pair them with a WIX oilfilter, which is why AMSOIL carries both the Ea and WIXfilters for the same applications. While WIX filters are notintended for use for 25,000 miles, they provide morethan adequate filtration for 7,500 miles and beyondwhen used with XL Synthetic Motor Oil.

AMSOIL Provides OptionsAMSOIL has strategically aligned itself with severalcorporate partners that provide high-quality aftermar-ket products to compliment the full line of AMSOILsynthetic lubricants. This allows AMSOIL Dealers toprovide one-stop shopping for customers of all types. No matter what drain interval length motorists prefer,AMSOIL provides high-quality synthetic motor oils andfilters suited to meet their needs.

AMSOIL ACTION NEWS / DECEMBER 2006 13

There is much to be done before leaving for a vacation, not the least of which is proper vehicle maintenance. Most people are aware of the importance of changingtheir motor oil, but many people overlook the importanceof changing the automatic transmission fluid and gearlube. Proper engine and drivetrain maintenance areequally important. After all, if the drivetrain fails, itdoesn’t matter how well the engine has been main-tained. Nothing ruins a vacation quicker than becomingstranded in a remote area due to neglecting properfluid maintenance.

Although many motorists consider their everydaydriving habits to be normal, this is not always the case.In addition, some vehicles are subjected to extremeoperating conditions such as snow plowing, haulingheavy loads and towing heavy trailers. These extremesput more stress on drivetrain components than justdriving back and forth to work. New vehicles such asturbo diesel trucks and vehicles with V-10 enginesboast more horsepower and torque than their prede-cessors, but differential designs have remained virtuallyunchanged. Differentials today are subjected to severeduty service and encounter more stress and heat thanwas seen only a few years ago. Modern gear oils arefaced with the challenge of providing adequate wearprotection during severe service operating conditions, while also providing maximum fuel efficiency.

Many people overstress their vehicles while on vaca-tion. It is not uncommon to see vacationing families driv-ing around in overloaded vehicles. The roof rack isfilled with equipment, the back seat is filled with bagsand the suspension is bottomed out. Some vehicles alsopull trailers or fifth-wheels with boats, and some ofthese vehicles exceed their rated towing limits. As vehi-cle stress increases, transmission and differential tem-peratures rise and cause conventional lubricants tothin, causing inadequate lubrication that can lead tocomponent failure.

It Never Breaks Downin Your Driveway

AMSOIL Synthetic ATF and SEVERE GEAR™ Synthetic Gear Lubes ProvideMaximum Protection for Severe Operating Conditions

Some vehicle manufacturers require the factory-filldifferential gear lube to be changed within the first3000 miles, or the first 500 miles if towing, a fact notknown by many consumers. Because differentials gothrough a break-in period and are not equipped with fil-ters like transmissions and engines, the gear lube mustbe changed in order to drain the break-in wear particles. These particles, if left in the differential, mesh betweenthe gears and cause gear or bearing wear or failure.Recent studies show that most differential wear occursin the first 5,000 miles.

AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic TransmissionFluid (ATF) and SEVERE GEAR™ 75W-90 and 75W-140Synthetic Gear Lubes (SVG & SVO) provide maximumprotection in demanding environments such as towing, hauling and commercial use, providing increased lubri-cant film protection and reduced wear at elevated tem-peratures. Synthetic ATF and SEVERE GEAR™Synthetic Gear Lubes are formulated for extended drainintervals of up to 50,000 miles in severe service and100,000 miles in normal service, or longer where spec-ified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Team AMSOIL powerboat racer Terry Rinker wrapped up a historicalseason in November. The Tampa, Fla. native set the world record for con-secutive wins with sevenafter sweeping the sevenrace ChampBoat Seriesin convincing fashion.

The 2003 and 2005series champion startedhis weekend by settingthe fastest qualifying timeof 32.46 seconds on themile and a quarter track.Despite large swells thatdelayed the racing, Rinkerwon his heat race andstarted on the pole forSunday’s finale. Despitefour restarts, Rinker neverrelinquished the leadposition during the 50-lapfinal, winning his seventh race in 2006 and eclipsing the decade-oldrecord.

“It is a dream come true,” said Rinker. “I couldn't have done this with-out my fine crew who prepared a perfect AMSOIL/Rinker boat. All I hadto do was get it to the finish. We look forward to keeping the streak alivein ’07. We aren’t going to lie down now that we have the record, and wewant to extend it in the worst way.”

The season ends with Rinker wrapping up his third championship in thepast four years. Since the start of the 2005 season, Rinker has won 11ChampBoat Series races. The ChampBoat Series will air on SPEEDChannel this winter.

While AMSOIL has had success off thetrack with an exceptional line of products for the pastthree decades, AMSOIL and its Dealer network now canfinally see the fruits of their labors on the track. AMSOILhas been the lube of choice for countless championsduring the past decade, but never has the companyseen such an impressive run of championships andexceptional racers in its 34-year history. AMSOIL ACTION NEWS / DECEMBER 2006 15

A world championship trophy is the goal of any racer who strives to be thebest in his or her respective discipline of racing. It doesn’t matter if it’sbehind the wheel of an 800 horsepower off-road truck or skimming acrossan oval ice track just inches from the frozen surface. Winning the champi-onship brings credibility to a driver, his/her team and its sponsors. In 2006,AMSOIL corporately-sponsored teams were named the best of the bestseven times.

Oval ice racer P.J. Wanderscheid has quickly become one of his sport’sgreatest stars. Only 22 years old, the Sauk Centre, Minn. native secured histhird Eagle River World Championship in January. Wanderscheid is one of onlythree men in the sport’s 44-year history to win three world titles. Wanderscheidalso proved he can win consistently, bringing home the World PowerSportsAssociation (WPSA) titles in both the Pro Formula and Pro Champ classes.Wanderscheid will be looking to defend his Eagle River championship nextmonth at the newly crowned AMSOIL Eagle River Derby Track.

Being crowned a world champion at Crandon International Raceway is likewinning a heavyweight boxing tournament against champions like MuhammadAli, Joe Frasier and Sugar Ray Leonard. In 2006, AMSOIL dominated theCrandon, Wis. track. Mike Oberg and Scott Douglas, two members of theAMSOIL/Kumho Tires Super Team, each won a world championship title onLabor Day weekend. Douglas also took home the prestigious BorgWarnerCup, the Super Bowl trophy of off-road racing. Oberg continued to dominatethe second half of the season, finishing just two points out of the Pro-2 cham-pionship and winning the final race of the year, the $66,000 winner-take-all

Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup. In all, AMSOIL drivers took home 13 podiumsat Crandon, including four world championships and the BorgWarner Cup.Oberg, Douglas and Dan Vanden Heuvel combined for a total of 20 podiums

and eight wins in 2006.Along with the Super Team, AMSOIL also continued its off-road suc-

cess with two repeat champions. Autumn Woods Racing postedanother championship in the 4-Wheel Jamboree truck class. JeffDedick won his third championship, but was pushed the entire seasonby teammate Ricky Brantley. In the rock-crawling world, AMSOIL wasagain well represented by brothers Brad and Roger Lovell. The Lovellstook part in the UROC Modified class and won their third straightseason points championship.

Scott Douglas took home third in the Pro-4class, along with the coveted Borg WarnerCup, in his first year with the AMSOILSuper Team.

Mike Oberg made the leap to the pro classin 2006, winning a world championshipand Rookie of the Year honors in the process.

DJ Eckstrom finished third overall in the Pro Openclass and won his second straight AMSOIL DuluthNational.

Mike LaRoccostepped down fromhis racing career afterspending the lastseven years as part ofTeam AMSOIL.
