Along with this, we have to uphold the image of the College which comes with the wearing of clean and crisp uniform. I would urge parents to ensure that their children are wearing their correct and clean uniform each school day. It is also extremely important that students maintain high attendance at school. Personally, I expect each of our students to leave school with strong Islamic values, high self-esteem and a respectful tolerance to others. TRAFFIC & CARPARK Alhamdullillah, our College has expanded rapidly with a great influx of enrolments. Having more students is contributing to traffic congestion during the peak hours and during Friday Jummah prayer. I request for all parents and visitors to be more considerate and cautious and avoid any accidents occurring on the College’s premises. If you are parking in the side streets, please do not park across driveways. Park correctly according to the law or the Council will be issuing fines. We look forward to your full cooperation. In the meantime, our Traffic Management Team is working on strategies to improve the traffic flow and would be calling for a general meeting with parents/ guardians in Term 3 to advise the new developments. C A R P A R K The Administration carpark is closed each school day between 9.00am and 3.15pm, to allow our senior students more space during recess and lunch. Guests are still able to access the administration building during the day by parking in front of the mosque and walking through the mosque gates.

Each day we see many parents speeding in the car parks. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous especially when smaller children pop out between cars or have cars stop in the middle of the driveways to let their children in/out of their cars. Please follow the direction of our staff on duty and keep in line with the speed on the school grounds at all times.

Many of our staff have also noted that parents are driving without their children restrainined in their cars. Even in the carpark, children must wear their seatbelts. Serious accidents can happen at only 5km per hour so please ensure your children are restrained correctly prior to you driving.

L U N C H E S / B O O K S / H O M E W O R K E T CWe are being inundated with parents arriving at the front office thorughout the entire day with their child’s lunch, forgotten homework, books, uniform etc. Please ensure that your child has a healthy packed lunch in their school bag and all their required items before they leave home in the morning to avoid being turned away when arriving at the Administration Office.

S T U D E N T A P P O I N T M E N T STo avoid disruption to your child’s learning it is requested that medical or other appointments for your children are made outside of school hours.

S P A R E C L O T H I N GWe have many younger students presenting to the front office due to bathroom accidents. For parents with children in Foundation and Year 1, can you please provide an extra pair of pants, underwear and socks in their school bags.

L A T E A R R I V A L S A N D E A R L Y D I S M I S S A L S We are still experiencing many students arriving late each day. School commences at 8.50am and all students are expected to arrive ontime. If you are finding heavy traffic you can leave 10 minutes earlier each day, this will ensure an early arrival.

If your child is required to be collected early due to an appointment, please advise the Administration Office so they can have your child waiting for you in the foyer. Students who fall ill during the day will be contacted by the Nursing staff for collection from the First Aid Department.

Parents are also asked to be off the school grounds by 8.45am as this poses an OH&S issue and conjestion in the Administration foyer.V I S I T O R SAny parent, guardian or visitor must report to the Administration Office and sign in prior to entering the College grounds. This is necessary especially in the event of an emergency and also for the safety of all our staff and students.

S T U D E N T I D C A R D SAll students will have their new ID cards af, please ensure that your child keeps their ID card in their school bag at all times. if your child has lost their ID card they must go to the Administration Office to organise a replacement - a $5 fee will apply.

Children in CarsOur car park duty staff have noticed that quite a large number of parents/carers are leaving children unattended in their cars whilst collecting other children from their classrooms. This is an extremely dangerous act and we advise that you never leave your children unattended in

cars no matter what degrees the weather is. In future, duty staff will take photos of your car registration and will be sending it through to the police with an official report. Seatbelts are also necessary by law. Again many of our staff see children unrestrained in cars and parents/carers on their mobiles. These offenders will also be reported to the police.

F i r s t A i d N e w s

Alhamdullilah, another school term has come to a close. Recently, there have been cases of students with cold or flu-like symptoms, vomiting or diarrhoea at the College. Schools inherently foster the transmission of infections from person to person because it is a group setting. Everyone is in close contact to one another and often share supplies and equipment.

Students with these symptoms, should seek medical attention, limit contact with others and stay at home until symptoms have passed. If your child becomes ill at school with these symptoms, the nurses will contact the family and arrange for the collection of the child.

By following the steps below, you can help prevent and control the transmission of infectious diseases in schools, and to promote health within the school community.

H A N D W A S H I N GIt is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of infections. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community.

E X C L U S I O N F R O M S C H O O L It is important to stay at home and recover if you are sick. By doing so, you will help prevent others from catching your illness. Avoid close contact with others during the infectious period.

E D U C A T I O NBe informed about signs, symptoms and prevention of diseases. Share information with your friends and family. Learning how diseases are transmitted can help to actively prevent the spread of disease.

D I S I N F E C T S U R F A C E SClean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Focus especially on frequently touched surfaces.

V A C C I N A T EEnsure that you/your child’s vaccination are up to date. Many of the diseases can be prevented by vaccines.

Visit your GP when ill to get diagnosed and treated properly.

In addition, to ensure next term starts smoothly, we also seek your cooperation and understanding. Here are some reminders that I would like to bring to your attention.A C T I O N P L A N SIf your child has a medical condition, please provide the school with an Action Plan and Medical Kit (Ventolin, spacer and Epipen). Letters with a blank Plan have been distributed. Please note Action Plans are only valid for 12 mohths and need to be renewed annually. Please provide us with a current Plans, otherwise this will disrupt your child from participating in any out of school activities.

If your child requires medication during school hours such as antibiotics, please supply the medication in its original packaging with clear instructions for example dosage, frequency etc. If the medication is to be taken daily, please also provide the nurses with a doctor’s letter.

H E A D L I C ETo minimise the spread of head lice at the College, please ensure you check your child’s hair for head lice before the commencement of Term 3. If you suspect or find head lice on your child, please start treatment as soon as possible and only use treatments made specifically for removing head lice. As set out in the Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulation 2001 Exclusion Table, students identified with live head lice should be excluded from school until treatment started.

F O O D A L L E R G I E S A N D A N A P H Y L A X I SAt Al-Taqwa College, we support all students who suffer from food allergies and Anaphylaxis. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our students. While ‘banning’ particular foods and declaring schools to be ‘nut-free’ is not recommended as it is not possible, we however seek your support and assistance from packing certain foods such as eggs, nuts, Nutella or peanut butter sandwiches. This is for health and safety reasons, but especially to safeguard those who have food allergies.

Feel free to call any of the nurses @ 9269 5055/ 5061 / 5084 or book an appointment with us if you need assistance with any of the above.

Have an active, fun and safe holiday. Don’t forget to treat your brain to a really good book!

G R A D E 3Here we are again with more exciting news from the Grade 3 team. Term 2 was full of fun as we participated in a lot of activities. The highlight of the term was celebrating Eid with our family and friends and enjoying the festivities. Let’s read what our students had to say about Term 2 at Al-Taqwa College.

In Term 2, my class attended Professor Bunsen’s Incursion. It was fun because we learnt a lot of new things and it helped me understand about science. We learnt about the Four States of Matter Solids, Liquids, Gases and the rarest one Plasma. I really enjoyed it. Thank You Prof. Bunsen! I hope we have even more fun in Term 3 InshaAllah.Aariz Khan 3D

For this year, our theme for the Ramadan Project was, ‘Islam is the religion of Family bonding’. For our project we made a ‘Floral Frame’ which had flowers on it. We worked so hard and guess What! We won the first prize Alhamdulillah.Alisha 3D

In Term 2, we went to the Scholastic book fair. There were lots of things like slime, prank stuff and lots more. I liked pranks because we can laugh at them. I really liked it! There were lots of fun books like Dragons

and Do not open this book. I enjoyed going to the book fair.Muhammad Ahmed 3C

G R A D E 4Our Grade 4 students are filled with great excitement and enthusiasm arriving at the end of Semester 1. Our journey throughout the semester involved lots of hard work of learning, working to enhance our research skills and team building activities with other grade 4 classes. It has definitely been a Semester of growing and acquiring new

skills.

In Term 2, as with the holy month of Ramadan and EID celebrations, students participated in a range of in class activities. They created a Ramadan journal and beautiful Eid cards to hand out to their loved ones.

The highlight for Integrated Studies was the creativity of the students for their Rainforest Project production. The enthusiasm and skills is evident through the quality of their work.

G R A D E 5 The beginning of June was a very celebratory time for all of our grade 5 students. We

were all extremely busy trying to get into the spirit of Eid Ul-Fitr. Our students decorated their classrooms, prepared Eid cards for their loved ones and organised Eid Kringle exchange

gifts for their peers. Eid was such a beautiful time as everyone had the opportunity to bond with their families and friends. During this time, we also took the chance to reflect on our acts of worship, celebrate our spiritual closeness to Allah (SWT) and show thankfulness in being able to witness yet another blessed month of Ramadan.

The Ramadan Production was one of the highlights of the month, as the students prepared and presented their class work and performance during the school assembly. The students were enthusiastically involved in Ramadan games, quizzes and fundraising activities that helped raise funds to purchase a bed in the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Exam week was also held during this busy month. Our students have put in the hard yards to revise all concepts learnt throughout the semester. We wish our students all the best in their exams and we are looking forward to an even bigger and better Term 3, InshaAllah.

• the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.

Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

Schools provide this information to education authorities.

Go to What is a reasonable adjustment? below to learn about adjustments.

WHY IS THIS DATA BEING COLLECTED?All schools in Australia must collect information about students with disability.

The NCCD:

• ensures that the information collected is transparent, consistent and reliable

• provides better information that improves understanding of students with disability

• allows parents, guardians, carers, teachers, principals, education authorities and government to better support students with disability.

Student with disability loadingFunding from the Australian Government for students with disability is based on the NCCD through the student with disability loading.

Students with disability who are counted in the top three levels of the NCCD (extensive, substantial and supplementary) attract the loading. Funding is based on a per-student amount at each of the three levels of additional support. The amount of the loading reflects the level of support students with disability need to participate fully in school, with higher funding for those who need higher levels of support.

Australian Government recurrent school funding is provided as a lump sum to school authorities including state and territory governments, which can then distribute the funding to their member schools according to their own needs-based arrangements.

The Government expects schools and school systems to consider their funding from all sources (ie Australian Government, state and territory and private) and prioritise their spending to meet the educational needs of all of their students, including students with disability. This can include payment of professional learning for staff and building inclusive cultures in schools.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE NCCD FOR STUDENTS?The information collected by the NCCD helps teachers, principals, education authorities and governments to better support students with disability at school.

The NCCD encourages schools to review their learning and support systems and processes. This helps schools to continually improve education outcomes for all students.

HIGH SPEED INTERNET NOW AVAILABLE IN THE WEST

Melbourne ISP, a pioneering company started in Caroline Springs, is now offering high speed wireless internet to all local residents in the west.

"Due to the lack of high quality internet in the west, we decided to launch Melbourne ISP that delivers high speed wireless internet to local residents. We know how it feels to live in this beautiful part of Melbourne without access to fast internet."

The response from the community has been incredibly positive with many households now able to access speeds of up to 100Mbps. These speeds have never been available to internet users here and we're very excited to be offering this opportunity through our wireless infrastructure. Up until now the highest speed available was THROUGH ADSL CONNECTION AND HIGHLY SATURATED FIBRE! Melbourne ISP IS DELIVERING speeds of UPTO 10 times faster than current speeds. We are using ground breaking wireless technology to achieve these results.

Melbourne ISP is commitment to provide personalised customer service, this is also rarely seen in other companies in the industry. Unlike other internet providers where you might be waiting on long frustrating phone queues, Melbourne ISP conveniently resolves any issues through their monitoring system before the customer is even aware of any down time.

It's no wonder the residents of the west are now connecting their homes and businesses to high speed internet through Melbourne ISP.
