Australia’s Shadow minister for Foreign Afairs Tanya Plibersek has defended his reference to Africa as a country instead of continent, saying his government’s $7 billion (Sh5.8 trillion) cut in foreign aid is “the real embarrassment.”Speaking on her way to Parliament on Wednesday morning, Ms Plibersek was asked about Australia’s role in trying to combat the outbreak of Ebola.Ms Plibersek attacked the Coalition government’s decision to cut future foreign aid spending, particularly in Africa. “Africa is one of the countries that has suffered most from the cuts,” she said. Ms Plibersek later on Wednesday said in a statement she “misspoke” and added: “I’d be more embarrassed about cutting $118 million (Sh9.7 billion) in aid to Africa – which is exactly what the government has done.”The Australian government provides $187 million (Sh15billion) development assistance to Africa. It is not the first time Ms Plibersek has wrongly referred to Africa as a country. In an interview in May, she called Africa a country, before correcting herself by saying: “Africa is a continent where we have previously given aid dollars.”And she is not the only one. In 2001, former US President George W. Bush made a similar gaffe, saying Africa was “a nation that suffered from incredible disease.” The gaffe led to claims that he lacked interest in the continent.

State House limo traced in Uganda From Page 1The search for the vehicle that went missing last Wednesday was extended to Uganda after police got key leads it had crossed into the neighbouring country.Bungoma CID boss Peter Mabeya said today they are in contact with authorities in Uganda who will take the car to Kampala as investigations continue.“We are in touch with our counterparts who have informed us

of the new development,” Mabeya said. “It has been found in Tororo.”A team of detectives from Interpol and Flying Squad reportedly left Nairobi for Kampala today. The car’s driver, who is attached to State House, was carjacked in Utawala as he drove into his compound.Chief Inspector David Machui Maina was forced into the back seat by four carjackers and abandoned a few metres from the

Administration Police Training College, Embakasi, six hours alter after being robbed of cash.State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu has, however, denied that the vehicle was under the Presidential Escort Unit, saying it belonged to the National Police Service.Police have been searching for the vehicle in Nairobi before the hunt was extended to neighbouring countries.

Three suspects are in custody over the theft, including Nakuru mechanic Aggrey Odhiambo who was arrested at the weekend.Police claimed the car was taken to his garage before it was resold.Odhiambo, who is a garage owner, was on Monday remanded after he was charged with being in possession of a stolen Toyota Avensis police found parked at his London Estate garage along Nakuru-Kabarak road. He faces a

second count of possessing a gun without a licence. Lawyer Cliff Ombetta insists Odhiambo is innocent, but said the car was driven to his garage where its occupants had gone to check on the progress of another vehicle he is also accused of stealing.“People who took the vehicle to his garage are those he had been dealing with ..when they took the BMW, he could not know it was a stolen vehicle,” Ombeta said.

strikes

It is likely that the leader of the Al-Shabaab terror group was killed in airstrikes mounted on Monday by US military.Information suggest that Ahmed Abdi Godane, who became Al-Shabaab’s top commander following the killing of his predecessor in 2008, was among six top militants killed in the air strikes about 240 km south of Mogadishu. After confirming they carried airstrikes in the area, Pentagon spokesman for Rear

Administration John Kirby said: “We certainly believe we hit what we were aiming at.”What he did not say is whether Godane is dead. The al-Qaeda-linked group also told AP news agency six of its fighters were killed in the strike. Spokesman Abu Mohammed said the group’s leader had been travelling in the convoy which was on its way to the coastal town of Barawe when they were struck. He, however, refused to confirm whether Godane was among the

dead.Godane is a wanted man after the US put a Sh600 million bounty on his head in 2012. He pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda in 2009 and had earlier been sentenced to death in absentia for an attack in Hargesia, Somalia. The militia leader, who is also known as Mukhtar Abu Zuba, heads the network which has terrorised East Africa, killed Somali officials, aid workers and others in a spate of suicide bombings. Godane is also alleged to have been behind

last year’s massacre of innocent Kenyans at Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi. The US government refused to say whether Godane survived the attack in south-central Somalia. But if he did not, Kirby said, East Africa would be a safer, better place.“If he was killed, this is a very significant blow to the network, to their organisation,” the Pentagon spokesman said, “and their ability to continue to conduct terror attacks.”

Lesotho’s political unrest to ease as Prime Minister returns home

Apple owns the world’s most valuable brand

A proposal by senators to raise their salary and allowances up to Sh2.4 million each per month as has sparked outrage within the civil society with members threatening to stage a mass demonstration. The National Civil Society Congress today opposed the new demands by accusing the senators of trying to derail devolution. “It is a dangerous move that we think is aimed at showing the excesses of devolution. That is because the senate is supposed to protect devolution but what we see now is a scheme to direct resources to very non-essential areas,” NCSC president Moris Odhiambo said. He warned that they will stage a mass demonstration against the proposals should the senators press on with the demands. The senators want more money to run their offices for what they claim will help them provide better services

Lesotho’s political unrest is expected to be eased after coalition government leaders on Monday agreed on a roadmap with clear timelines on removing parliament prorogation, which started in June.

Lesotho’s Prime Minister Thomas Thabane, who sought refuge in South Africa after the military raided his residence on Saturday, is also heading home.“We are on our way home now, most probably we will

be in Lesotho tomorrow,” Thabane’s aide Samonyane Ntsekele said on Monday. The political unrest, which Thabane claimed to be an attempted “coup” against him by the military, forced Thabane to flee to South

Africa and paralyzed the government. Thabane’s rival, Deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsing, and the military, however, have denied Thabane’s accusation. One soldier and four police officers were injured

Saturday during gunfire exchange between police, largely loyal to Thabane, and the army, believed to be loyal to Metsing. However, the army has denied staging a coup and said their actions on Saturday were designed

to prevent the police from arming political “fanatics.”Although the army has since been back to the barracks, the latest actions have further weakened the country’s already fragile coalition government.

US tech giant Apple, owns the most valuable brand in the world, worth nearly $117 billion (Sh10.4 tril-lion), an analysis based on data from three different agencies says. From the analysis, Google came in second with a brand worth $107 billion (Sh9.5 trillion). Together with IBM, Microsoft and Coca-Cola, they round up the top five, revealing a dominance by technol-ogy companies in the line-up of the world’s most valuable brands drawn up by market research firm Milward Brown.General Electric (GE), McDonald’s, Samsung, Amazon and Toyota complete the top 10. Millward Brown says brands account for 30 per cent of the value of many of the world’s top 500 firms. The firm produces annual surveys on the value of global brands in conjunction with two other consult-ing firms, Brand Finance and Interbrand.“Brands can be the most valuable things that compa-nies own, more so than their property portfolios or intellectual propert,” says one researcher.

Former Cabinet Ministers Prof Sam Ongeri and Chirau Ali Mwakwere were yester-day told to turn down their nominations to ambassado-rial positions because of their advanced ages. Members of the Parliamentary commit-tee on Defence and Foreign Relations which is currently vetting the 26 nominees to fill the diplomatic positions, told the two that they had served the country long enough and that they are too old for the appointment. But Prof Ongeri said his brain power “is at its best” and that he will do the job adequately. “For now, I am up to the task but when my body refuses, I will give it up,” he said.

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has donated eight infant incubators to Pumwani Ma-ternity Hospital in Nairobi. This is part of her campaign to reduce mother and child mortality by increasing the hospital’s capacity to handle new premature babies.“These precious infants are at greater risk of short and longer term complications, including disabilities and impediments in growth and mental development,” said the First Lady. She blamed high cost of services, retrogressive socio-cultural practices and inadequate facilities for the deaths.

A suspected thug was last night lynched by a mob in a botched robbery in Buru Buru. Another suspect was shot and wounded in a similar incident at Pioneer estate. Police say the lynching brings to six the number of those killed in similar incidents in the past four days.Residents attacked the Buru Buru suspect along Mutarakwa Road after repeated complaints of mugging incidents. Cases of mugging have been on the rise in residential areas and the CBD, forcing police to use lethal force to contain the situation. In the second attack, the suspect was trying to scale a fence into a private compound when the owner of the house, who is a licenced gun holder, shot and injured him in the leg. The suspect was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital.

Poaching, drugs fuelling terror, say African heads

Extremists groups are taking advantage of porous borders to carry out illegal transnational trade, including poaching and drug trafficking. The black market poses the greatest challenge in combating terrorism in Africa, African leaders revealed on Tuesday.Six African presidents meeting in Nairobi have resolved to adopt a common approach in combating growing terrorism, including the threat of radicalisation of the youth. The leaders, who included Chadian President Idriss Deby, agreed to intensify efforts to combat forces of terror.“We need to intensify efforts in combating the forces of evil,” Deby who is also chairman of African Union Peace and Security Council said.He was addressing a summit convened in Nairobi by AU’s Peace and Security Council

About Sh85 trillion is being taken out of poor countries annually and millions of lives lost to corruption, anti-poverty groups have claimed.A report by US-based anti-poverty organization, One, says much of the progress made in the past two decades in tackling extreme poverty is in jeopardy due to corruption and crime, including money laundering. The report blames corruption for 3.6 million deaths annually. If action is taken to end the secrecy that allows corruption to thrive - and if the recovered revenues were invested in health - the group says many deaths could be prevented in low-income countries. One describes its findings as a “trillion dollar scandal”.“Corruption inhibits private investment, reduces economic growth, increases cost of doing business and can lead to political instability,” the report says. “But in developing countries, corruption is a killer. Counties will soon receive funding after the Senate passed the County Allocation of Revenue Bill.Counties would usually have been required to wait for 14 days before funds could be disbursed but an amendment by the National Assembly reduced the time by seven days. The move means if the Bill is signed by the President, counties will only wait for seven days to access allocations. The County Allocation of Revenue Bill, which has withheld funds meant for counties, is pending assent by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Treasury has been forced to loan counties Sh29 billion to pay salaries owing to delays by the National Assembly in passing the Bill.During Tuesday’s special sitting, which saw the Senate recalled from recess, there was heated debate over a proposal to put a ceiling for counties and detail limits for expenditure. While some Senators lauded the proposal, others rejected it saying counties should be left to control the funds since every county knows its needs. “We need to empower our county assemblies to do the oversight like we do on governors. They can do on CECs (County Executive Committees),” said Kericho’s Charles Keter. He was seconded by his Mandera rival Billow Kerrow. “We want to put limits on executives

on recurrent expenditure they can use on salaries, allowances and other operational work. We want to do the same on the county assembly.” Elgeyo Marakwet’s Kipchumba Murkomen said: “Facilitating the county assemblies to do their job is our responsibility as a House, to defend them and protect them.”

of resources to invest in health care, food security or essential infrastructure, it costs lives and the biggest toll is on children,” the report says.If corruption was eradicated in sub-Sahara Africa, an additional 10 million children per year would be provided with education. Money will also be available to pay another 500, 000 primary school teachers and an additional 11 million people with HIV/Aids provided with anti-retroviral drugs. One has urged G-20 leaders who are set to meet in Australia in November

to take measures to make information public on who owns companies and trusts as a way of preventing them from concealing the identities of criminals. It is advocating for mandatory reporting laws for oil, gas and mining sectors so that countries’ natural resources “are not effectively stolen from the people living above them”.It has also recommended for action against tax evaders “so that developing countries have the information they need to collect tax and allow people to hold authorities accountable in delivery of essential services.”

Africa and Libya led their respective countries’ delegations.Other countries such as Mozambique and Equatorial Guinea were represented by local ambassadors.Terror groups like Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab and the Lord’s Resistance Army have taken advantage of the porous

borders to entrench extremist activities in the region. They have been using funds collected through illegal trade and money laundering to fund their activities.President Uhuru Kenyatta told the forum radicalisation of youth was a major hindrance to gains made in fighting terrorism.

“Terrorism remains the major threat to regional and global peace and security. Terrorism organisations continue to grow by radicalising vulnerable youths to continue perpetuating their deadly cause.”He said terrorists were using the Internet and social media to recruit members.

ISIL jihadists behead another US journalistIslamic State extremists Tuesday re-leased a video showing the beheading of yet another US journalist in what they said is a “second message to America” to halt airstrikes in Iraq.In the video, which was posted online, journalist Steven Sotloff says, in a mes-sage thought to have been scripted by his captors, that he is “paying the price” for US military intervention in Iraq. The intelligence community in the United States is working to confirm the authenticity of the video, and the jour-

nalist’s family was waiting for formal au-thentication that Sotloff has been killed.“The family knows of the video and is grieving privately,” family spokesman Barak Barfi said. The killing of Sotloff follows a threat last month by ISIS made during the video-taped beheading of American journalist James Foley. The latest video threatens the life of another man, who the terror group identifies as David Haines of Britain. A masked ISIS figure in the new video

speaks to US President Barack Obama, telling him, “Just as your missiles continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people.”The Islamic State has thrived and mutated during the civil war in Syria. It swept into Iraq in June, seizing large swaths of the country’s Sunni-dominat-ed northern and western provinces.Obama ordered targeted airstrikes in Iraq to begin in early August after ISIS fighters began targeting ethnic Yazidis

and launching attacks toward the Kurd-ish regional capital of Irbil.ISIS appeared to date the execution video of Sotloff, referencing specific US military actions in recent days, includ-ing airstrikes that helped to break the siege of Amerli, a northern Iraqi town home to thousands of minority Shiite Turkmen, over the weekend.Intelligence officials are analyzing the video, trying to answer some key questions, a senior U.S. administration official said.

New report proposes hefty pay package for senators:Kenyans will be stunned this morning to learn that senators are plotting to earn billions

Medical charity wants global fight against EbolaA global military intervention is needed to curb the largest ever Ebola outbreak, according to the medical charity Me-decins Sans Frontieres. In a damning criticism of world leaders, it says the global response has so far been “lethally inadequate”. The charity said countries were turning their back on West Africa and merely reducing the risk of Ebola arriving on their shores. In a speech to the United Nations, the interna-tional president of MSF, Dr Joanne Liu, said repeated calls for help had been ignored.

Brown said a simple “I’m sorry,” during the court proceedings, the Washington Post reported. Prosecutors agreed to ask the judge to sentence Brown to probation in exchange for the plea. They also agreed not to ask for any jail time for

the 25-year-old Grammy winner. Brown’s bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, 36, was found guilty in a two-day trial in April after two witnesses testified that both Brown and Hollosy hit Parker Adams when he tried to take a picture with the star. Brown was in the District to attend a Howard University Homecoming party. The incident occurred while Brown was on probation in a felony assault case in Califor-nia after attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna before the 2009 Grammys.

Activist risks Sh880m fine over Thai firm storyA British activist who campaigns for better working conditions could face a fine of up to $10 million (Sh880 million) for attacking a company accused of abusing its staff.Activist Andy Hall has gone on trial in Thailand for defamation.Thailand’s Natural Fruit Company, one of the companies he wrote about, accused him of defamation after he wrote of poor conditions faced by employees.Defamation is a criminal offence in Thailand and Hall could be jailed for up to seven years if found guilty.Thailand has grown into one of the world’s biggest food producers, but has also been criticised for ill treatment of migrant staff. The frequent use of criminal defamation law in Thailand to silence critics has been condemned by human rights groups.Thailand relies on migrant

workers from neighbouring regions of Myanmar and Cambodia. But reports say some do not have legal papers that permit them into the country. Since they are desperate for jobs and do not have legal rights to complain, many work for long hours for lower pay than Thai workers.

Hall’s report for the group, Finnwatch, said Natural Fruit Company, the country’s largest producer of pineapples, mistreated workers, a claim the company has denied.Mr Hall told reporters before entering court: “I don’t believe there’s any evidence against me to show that what I did was malicious or in some way

against the company. I did it for the benefit of the workers.”Natural Fruit’s owner, Wirat Piyapornpaiboon, said: “The report caused damage to me and my company. Any accusations were not true. If true, why are there so many workers who want to work at my factory?”

Banks and other lenders rarely lend money to borrowers overnight. In case of emergencies like sickness or a damaged vehicle that needs immediate attention, those in need are often forced to borrow from friends and relatives. However, Milango Financial Services has a ready-made solution for that, the emergency loan.Milango is a micro-finance institution that provides loans to individuals and small business owners, the lender’s agents told X News.Through their Nishike Loan, borrowers can receive between Sh3,000 and Sh150,000 within 24 hours.Any Kenyan citizen over the age of 18 can apply for a loan as long as Milango agents confirm that the person has a steady source of income and is able to pay back the loan.As long as the loan is paid within 3 months, it will attract an interest charge of 8 per cent of the money borrowed. There is also an additional fee of two per cent to set up the loan, another two per cent for insurance, Sh150 per loan for legal fees, and a charge of Sh500 for loans exceeding Sh100,000.

Farmers in Homa Bay county are making up to Sh400,000 a month by growing chilli. Magdaline Ajowi, a farmer in the Rangwe village is part of a group of successful planters, thanks to a partnership with Mace Foods, a chilli exporting company.Last year alone, the firm, collected 14 tonnes of chilly from the region. By the end of March, farmers had delivered six tonnes of the crop to Mace for export .Michael Otieno Okoth, an expert in nursery development and transplanting, says a packet of chilli from Mace Foods contains about 8,000 seeds. This translates to 8,000 trees that cover about an eighth of an acre. Although the crop is drought resistant, the rainy season makes it sprout quickly and bear fruits at a faster rate, says Mr Okoth.

Mr Charles Odera, the chairman of Ajowi’s ‘Ndiru Chilly Farmers’ group, says Mace Foods introduced the seeds in the area and paid half of the cost. “At the beginning, it was difficult to grow the crop, but now we are used to it,” says

Mr Odera. He says farmers are now able to pay school fees for their children, build decent houses and buy themselves food. Mr Muga said he has distributed about 500 packets of seed to farmers.

Samosa, a profitable snack

Milango’s nishike loan

The government has released Sh200 million to revive the country’s tourism industry. Lucy Karume, Kenya’s Tourism Recovery Taskforce chairperson says the money is already with the Tourism Ministry and will soon be used on a short, medium and long term strategy.“The money is not enough,

but it will sure do well for the start especially on the short term recovery plan,” she said. The sector took a major hit after a series of terror attacks scared off foreign visitors, prompting a number of hotels to shut down and costing over 7,000 people their jobs.“It is evident that coastal

tourism suffered a marked decline in the first five months of the year and reports from coastal hoteliers indicate that this slump has continued into June to August,” Karume added. She said the short term strategies include tax measures to enable corporate and business entities to take

their staff on holiday and get tax refunds, as well as appealing for a retraction of travel advisories issued by the US, UK and other Western countries against Kenya. “We also urge all tourists, celebrities and corporate bodies, public and the private sector and friends of the tourism sector to go online

and tell the world about the uniqueness of the country and how tourism business activities are ongoing despite the travel advisories,” she said. The taskforce will unveil the medium and long term recovery strategies once it has been active for three months.

Samosa vendors can make up to Sh30,000 a month, depending on the size of their operation. Those who sell the snack often use small push carts that double up as ovens to keep the food warm. Many have been known to sell samosas ‘smokies’ and boiled eggs in order to offer their customers a range of snacks to choose from.A study by Philomena Muiruri, who wrote the book ‘Women Street Vendors in Nairobi’, reveals that 91 per cent of street vendors are self-employed. Only 9 per cent are running the business on behalf of someone else.In the case of samosa sellers, most vendors make the snacks themselves at home and bring their carts shopping centres and market places, where they are exposed to a large

group of potential customers. Most vendors (about 4 out of every 10) start their business with as little as Sh4, 000 or less, says Muiruri.Three out of 10 vendors can get their business running with as little as Sh2, 000 while the rest need more than Sh4,000.As most vendors make their own samosas, the materials needed to set up a business include a frying pan, all-purpose flour, minced meat, onions and chillies and whichever other stuffings they may wish to use. Those who use push-carts get them at a cost of Sh13,000 from a Farmer’s Choice factory in Kahawa West, Nairobi. Muiruri notes that the vendors who make the most money are the ones who sell more than one item.

Wood is major common component of furnishings in our homes. Lacquerer coating preserves wooden surfaces while letting them retain the sheen shade for long.It can be clear or coloured, but characteristically it dries by solvent evaporation or curing to give a durable finish. This type of paint allows free dripping of moisture which wears wood off making it loose its aesthetic value. Lacquerer surfaces are easy to clean. All you need is a moist cloth to wipe the surfaces with. It leaves them gleaming as if they were new. Lacquerer surfaces are more durable

and can withstand mild acids and detergents. This paint dries very fast once applied. It gives no room to foreign particles such as dust and pollen grains to stick and dry in it. The after-work remains smooth and smart just as intended. The property of being sticky makes is a time saving option. One can opt for a spraying machine and still obtain the nicest polish finish. One need not be an expert to spray, therefore, when the service of professional cannot be reached, you can be the expert. Wedge shoes are a great alternative to stilettos and are an instant outfit updater. They come in different styles; from contemporary to vintage and

heights; from low to high heeled ones. High heeled wedges still give the benefit of the extra height and leg-elongating effects of high heels.

While wedge heels are fashionable and versatile, they do not look great on everyone or with every outfit. Knowing how to wear wedges stylishly can be as simple as creating a balanced outfit. When wearing wedges with skirts, steer clear of anything too form fitting. Wedges can

appear quite chunky. Wearing them anything too tight can give an unflattering appearance. Fuller, flowing skirts look better with wedges.Jeans are a classic option to wear with wedges. However, it is important to take note of the style of the jeans. Skinny jeans are perfect for showing off wedges but if you are wearing flared jeans make sure that the hem covers most of the wedge as this will create the most streamlined silhouette.

He then talked to other people about his idea and thus the lizard man came to be. His body modification started on his back, which he tattooed green with scales and black patterns to resemble a lizard before proceeding to cover the whole body in the lizard look. He then got his teeth sharpened, his tongue forked, had sub dermal implants on his hand and back, and also had his lips tattooed green. He got numerous piercings on his ears, and a teflon ridge implanted above his eyebrows. He has endured over 700 hours of body modification in order to look like a lizard.

Sony Sugar head coach Zedekiah Otieno has asked the Kenya Premier League to avoid awarding walk-overs to big teams. The call comes after KPL ordered for a replay of the un-played tie between AFC Leopards and Sony. The match will be played on September 10 at Awendo Green Stadium. The replay order follows a successful appeal lodged by the millers after KPL awarded AFC

Leopards the match after Sony Sugar failed to turn up.“They need to clean their house, changing match venues haphazardly is ill intended, we have seen this happen before with team benefiting with points on a platter, it’s very wrong,” he said. For the second time in successive seasons, the millers have been penalised for forcing an abandonment in a KPL tie after failing to

honour rescheduled matches.“Not that Sony are the offenders here… we are victims if rules have to be applied.. we see crowd trouble happening in other stadia like Nyayo or City, but we don’t see matches moved to Awendo,” said Zico Sony are in ninth position with 28 points, while AFC has similar number of points but with lower goal difference.

Cleverley targets England recallTom Cleverly is hoping that his move to Aston Villa will help him win back his place in the England team. Villa signed Manchester United midfielder on a season-long loan with an option to complete a permanent move in January or for United to take him back during that window. Cleverley, 25, has 13 England caps although he has not featured for his country since the 1-0 friendly defeat by Germany on 13 November 2013. “Hopefully I can get back in the England team. I have got to get back playing,” said Cleverley, whose United contract expires in the summer of 2015. “Playing football is what matters most to me and I’m looking forward to getting back to what I know I can do. Villa is the kind of club where I can do that.” The deal was struck late

Kenya Motosport Federation (KMSF) will use the 62nd KCB Safari Rally to present a strong case for readmission to the World Rally Championships calendar in 2017.Speaking on Tuesday during the launch of September 12-14 race, world motorsports governing body (FIA) vice-president, Surrinder Thatthi, said organisers have the challenge of meeting WRC standards after failing the test last year.“When we have a proper rally, then we will have a WRC round. From last years’ experience we didn’t have a proper rally. This year they have made great effort to run it on closed roads which is one of the criteria, so it’s a step in the right direction,” the FIA boss said. “The roads should not be so rough because manufacturers in WRC at the moment don’t want to build a special car for the Safari Rally,” Thatthi

Botham has called for changes to the England one-day team after another crushing defeat by India. The hosts were thrashed by nine wickets in the fourth match at Edgbaston on Tuesday to lose the five-match series. Set only 207 to win, Ajinkya Rahane made 106 and Shikhar Dhawan 97 not out as India won with 117 balls to spare. England never recovered from slumping to 23-3 after being asked to bat.The final is at Headingley on Friday and Sir Ian says it is the ideal time to introduce some fresh faces, rather than delaying a shake-up until closer to the next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.“It’s all very well saying ‘we’ll stick with this’ – no! Enough is enough. You’re running out of time. Let’s make some changes. You’ve lost the series, what have you got to lose in the last game? Bring in some of the younger players and let’s see what happens. Blood them, give them a taste,” Sir Ian said. .

on transfer deadline day on Monday and the clubs had been waiting for it to be ratified by the Premier League’s board. Cleverley came through United’s academy system and signed a four-year contract in October 2011 but has played only one of their four games this season. United’s new manager Louis van Gaal, who is trying to revive a side who recorded their lowest league finish

since 1990 last season, is willing to let the midfielder leave Old Trafford. Cleverley, who has made 79 appearances for United, was also linked with a move to Everton. He was on standby for the 2014 World Cup but did not make Roy Hodgson’s final 23-man squad. Cleverley is also out the England squad for tonight’s friendly against Norway and the Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland.
