That's a wrap! No not your holiday gifts yet but if you are like so many well organized highly structured professionals it might apply to you. Otherwise that wraps up 2015 so onward and upward 2016. Our prestigious Alumni Weekend fires off on Thursday, February 4 through Sunday, February 7, 2016. Registration is now open and you can pre-register online by January 25th to save $50. It fills fast and accommodations are on a first-come basis.

Being there is not optional for most of us. Whether you attend for the top quality CE that is arranged meticulously by Dr. Lori Gearhart, to reward your office staff and provide them CE, the fantastic Hyatt Regency Wynfrey Hotel venue and the indoor shopping and dining experiences for family and staff, to refill your supply of oral hygiene products, to learn of new products and purchase them, perhaps to kick off the hunting boots and rest those weary cold feet, or possibly it is your turn to reunite with classmates years ending in "6" or "1". All of the listed reasons plus unnamed ones abound. Note! There are NOT any good reasons to miss this.

We are forever grateful to the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and the leadership of Dean Michael Reddy, our diligent Alumni staff led by Scott Huffman with Charlene Phillips, Abby Vinson, and Jeremy Ward. None of this would occur if not for them so please thank them personally.

Finally since we are a dynamic organization we strive on moving where our people want us to move. Program choices, different venues, additional sponsors or exhibitors, food choices, all suggestions are needed and appreciated. Our meetings are planned years in advance so please speak up soon to see your ideas put into action.

It has been my pleasure to work with such a hard working executive council, district representatives and associates, and out of state reps. I feel confident the current students are benefiting from all the Association is doing and will be graduates we continue to be proud of. It is an honor to contribute.

Ray H. McLaughlin, D.M.D.President, UASOD Alumni Association

The 5 Most Important Financial Planning Concepts Doctors Get Wrong

Featured Speaker: Jason Dyken, MD, MBASponsored By: Dyken Wealth StrategiesDate: Friday, February 5Time: 7:00am – 8:00am CE Credit Offered: 1 Hour

Seating is limited! Continental breakfast will be served.

About the Speaker

Jason Dyken, M.D., M.B.A is the CEO and President of Dyken Wealth Strategies. He has worked with doctors for the last 25 years, first as a fellow clinician and then as a wealth strategist. He received his Medical Degree from the University of South Alabama in 1991. Following his residency and while working full time as a clinician, Jason attended graduate school receiving his Master of Business Administration degree with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Business in 1997. After a decade of medical practice, Jason realized he had an opportunity to have a greater impact on doctors and healthcare through wealth planning rather than as a fellow practitioner.

In 2001, he gave up the full time practice of medicine and started Dyken Wealth Strategies to focus on serving doctors exclusively. The firm’s focus is on organizing, simplifying, and protecting the financial future of the doctors and their families. Jason has recently launched two video educational series on how to “Regain Control of Your Financial Future” and “Create a Tax Efficient Income Plan for Life.”

Course Description

Inflammatory mediators are key players in the body’s normal host response of inflammation. While the inflammatory response is considered of prime importance to the body’s immune system in fighting disease, it can also have deleterious effects. Understanding how inflammatory mediators act at the cellular and tissue levels brings clarity to their role in linking periodontal disease with many systemic conditions.

Current research emphasizes these connections and the need for medical and dental professionals to collaborate on shared patients. In these challenging times, it is important to include the patient as part of the healthcare team and to provide homecare options that are user-friendly. To this end, over-the-counter anti-inflammatory oral rinses will be highlighted as positive adjuncts to oral hygiene care and disease prevention.

Learning Objectives

After attending this presentation, the participant should be able to:

• Recognizethemechanismandroleofinflammationinthebody • Identifykeyinflammatorymediatorsandtheirsystemicaction • Understandperiodontaldiseaseasachronicinflammatorydisease • Exploretheconnectionofinflammationandperiodontaldiseasewithother systemic conditions • AddresstheroleofOTCanti-inflammatoryrinsesindiseaseprevention

Course Description

Navigating today’s technologically savvy world can be difficult, especially if you have a practice and reputation to protect. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and so many other social media sites leave a practice exposed and vulnerable if appropriate procedures are not put in place; however, using proper protocol, all of these sites can be a great tool. Learning how to implement proper procedures for your practice can be instrumental in protecting you.

This is considered a practice management course. The Alabama Board of Examiners will accept a total of 3 hours of practice management for hygienists within a 24 month reporting period and up to 6

hours of practice management for the dentist within a 24 month reporting period.

Minimal invasive procedures are as essential as development of materials that may change the gold standard of orthologues bone in reconstruction. No other innovation has changed the visuality of oral and maxillofacial surgery as much as the digital workflow. Computer-aided procedures help to develop a strategic plan for the reconstructive procedure. Navigation and today more and more intraoperative imaging allow for a quality control during surgery by image fusion with a preoperative result. Automatisation of segmentation and automatic transfer of patient data to an average skull midface and mandible facilitate planning as well as intraoperative corrections and quality control.
