JAY P. SINGH, PHD is the internationally award-winning founder of the Global Institute of Forensic Research. 2015 Keynote Speaker at the Midatlantic Region Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (MARATSA), he completed his graduate studies in psychiatry at the University of Oxford. Since this time, he has lectured for Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, and Dartmouth. Current tenured Professor of Epidemiology at Molde University College in Norway and Clinical Associate in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Singh has published over 65 peer-reviewed articles on risk assessment research conducted in over 40 countries.

Sexual recidivism risk assessments are increasingly required in correctional, mental health, and court settings in the United States. �is training will focus on the structured assessment and subsequent management of sex o�ender risk with a strong emphasis on the underpinnings of current practice recommendations and on reviewing the latest research �ndings concerning the accuracy of commonly used risk assessment tools. Which instruments are used, by whom, where, and for what purposes will be discussed, as will ratings of perceived usefulness in practice from the largest global survey ever conducted on this topic. Attendees can also expect to learn about current uncertainties being discussed in this quickly evolving �eld. �e lecture is aimed towards professionals working in correctional (jails, prisons, parole boards, probation o�cers) and mental health (psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers) settings as well as litigators and judges. �e goal of the training workshop is to teach attendees how to integrate risk assessment research into evidence-based practice and will highlight innovative new clinical strategies and services developed over the past year that may aid in this endeavor.

INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED SEX OFFENDERS: APPROACHES TO ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT

David Prescott, LICSW is Director of Professional Development and Quality Improvement for the Becket Family of Services in New England. ATSA Past President, Mr. Prescott has over 30 years of experience in assessing, managing, and monitoring both the perpetrators and victims of sexual abuse. He is the author of over 10 books and 50 articles and book chapters.

INTRODUCTION TO MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING WITH SEXUAL OFFENDERS

Robin Wilson, PhD, ABPP is a researcher, educator, and board certi�ed clinical psychologist who has worked with sexual o�enders in hospital, correctional, and private practice settings for more than 30 years, Dr. Wilson has published over 100 scienti�c articles, book chapters, and other monographs. Past President of the Florida Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, Dr. Wilson routinely serves as an expert witness regarding community risk management.

THE GOOD LIVES MODEL OF SEX OFFENDER REHABILITATION: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Pamela Yates, PhD, R.D.Psych is the President of Cabot Consulting and Research Services. Dr. Yates has worked extensively with sexual o�enders in correctional and forensic settings as a clinician, researcher, and program developer. Her research on the Good Lives Model of sexual o�ender intervention has resulted in the publication of books including “Applying the Good Lives and Self-Regulation Models to Sex O�ender Treatment: A Practical Guide for Clinicians” and “Building a Better Life: A Good Lives and Self-Regulation Workbook”.

ADVANCING UNDERSTANDING OF RISK ASSESSMENT & STATISTICS MEASURING ITS ACCURACY

Leslie Maaike Helmus, PhD is co-developer of the Static-99R, the most commonly used sex o�ender recidivism risk assessment tool in use today. Having received her Doctorate in Psychology from Carleton University in Canada, Dr. Helmus has also been involved in the development of the STABLE-2007, ACUTE-2007, and Static-2002R. She has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards from organizations including ATSA and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Jay P. Singh, PhD is Clinical Associate in the Department of Psychiatry and Senior Fellow in the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
