From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

2nd Sunday in Lent: “I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession.” (Genesis 15:7). Just as the Lord gave Abraham, Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, God has also given each of us a home. Whether our home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to God in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do we show our gratitude to God for the home given us? Do we make a sacrifice of any kind? Do we return any of our finances to God, investing equally in our eternal home just as we invest in our earthly home?

QAC Operating Income Report Note: Operating Income includes regular collection, rental, and interest income.

Our fiscal year is July 1st to June 30th. Thank you for your generosity!

2nd Sunday in Lent

Presider ............................... Fr. Tom Schroer, S.M. Assisting .............................. Deacon Greg Cecere Liturgy Planner .................... Liturgy Planning Team Music Director ..................... Teesie Chandler Interpreter for the Deaf ........ Janet Miller

Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18: In a time when few believed in an afterlife, having faith in God promised immortality. Children carried on the traditions and name of their families. They could inherit the land and possessions of their parents. God’s promises to Abraham included both descendants and the land. Throughout the ages, God’s promises to Abraham have given hope to the Hebrew people. Jews, Christians and Muslims alike consider themselves children of Abraham, heirs to the favor given to Abraham by God.

Philippians 3:17-4:1: Paul exhorts the Philippians to look to the examples of one person they know they can trust: Paul himself. Paul offers his life as an example because he knows that the Philippians need a model for proper behavior. He and his companions can be contrasted with those who are currently trying to influence the community. These latter missionaries are concerned more with personal comfort than with the higher good. Paul reminds his readers that their true home is in heaven and that this reality should be reflected in their conduct.

Luke 9:28b-36: The account of the Transfiguration is an awe-inspiring indication of the resplendent glory that belongs to Jesus as God’s unique on. It also forward to Jesus’ roles as coming judge of the living and the dead. Jesus is the beloved Son of God to all who will listen. This story of the glorification of Jesus follows Peter’s declaration of faith in Jesus as the Messiah and Jesus’ first teaching about his suffering and death. From this point on in the gospel, Jesus moves steadily toward his death.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

THOUGHT for the DAY: “Lent is a time of penance and renewal, emptying ourselves and making sacrifices that can't even begin to compare with the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Even when we stray, we are always welcomed home (Lk 15:1-32). When we hear of mercy, we think forgiveness. Yet with God's mercy, God loves unconditionally. Forgiveness aside, we are loved even when we don't deserve to be. If only we had that kind of capacity and could extend that kind of love to others!” ~ Matt Dunn

LOVING OTHERS WELL: John 13:34-35 says, “And so I am giving a new commandment to you now - love one another as I love you. Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” Just think about it - there is not one person Jesus does not love and did not come to save - this includes everyone you lock eyes with, walk past on the street, hear about in the news, live next door to, stand behind in line at the grocery store, or sit next to in the waiting room. When we actively love those around us, putting their needs before our own, we are taking the same amazing love that Jesus has poured out to us and becoming a living, breathing, beautiful display for humanity. You see, while many believe love is a just a nice, heart-warming feeling, as Christians, we are called for it to be more than that - we are called to take action. We can share God’s love by noticing the unnoticed, loving the unlovely, or even by extending grace to those who are not so easy to be around. (by Andrea @ DaySpring)

Welcome to L.I.F.E.!

Looking for a place where you can come, be yourself and feel connected with others and with God? Then look no further. Join us Sunday evenings, 6:30-7:00 PM, when we have social and snack time, and then from 7:00-9:15 PM, for our youth planned and implemented meetings. In Marianist L.I.F.E. we build a community, we share, we grow, we support one another on our faith journeys. Call Maggie Atkinson (258-3702), [email protected] for more info. Or better yet see what other L.I.F.E.rs have to say about it! Open to all 9th-12th graders!

NEXT WEEK: Third Sunday of Lent (Year C) Presider: Tom Schroer, S.M.

Exodus 3:1-8a, 13-15;1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12; Luke 13:1-9 Visit: http://www.usccb.org/nab/
