I am not sure if this record still stands, but inNovember and December of l992 Kalamazoo Countyrecorded 53 cloudy days out of 61. That is a lot ofcloud cover! It is well documented that the absence ofsunlight has a negative effect on the human spirit.Some call it “winter depression.”There are a number of products on the market, as

well as therapies such as using a light lamp, forcingyourself outside, joining the gym, wearing brightcolors, watching your sugar intake, etc.Here is a remedy from the psalmist. Put your

hope in God. In the spiritual realm, it is all aboutconnecting to our Light Source. Remember howJohn, the gospel writer said it,“In him was life, and that life was the light of men” –

John 1:4There’s the story of an old Scotsman who lived on

the west coast of Florida. He was a philosophicaltype of person who believed two things are necessaryfor a healthy life (1) Water (2) Sunlight. Thus hewould swim every day and get plenty of sunlight.He told of an experience he had sailing on a vessel.

For three weeks there was not one crack in theclouds. Many crewmembers became gloomy andsick. But he had a secret that helped keep his spiritsup.He said his secret was “make your own sunshine”

in your mind. He would remember the goldensunlight of days gone by and would anticipate itsreturn.Take-away: Make your own sunshine by staying

Shewas a 1950 graduate of Otsego HighSchool and attended the Moody BibleInstitute for 2½ years. Reba was a medicaltranscriptionist and worked several yearsat Pipp Community Hospital. Sheattended Oak Grove Bible Church andlater the Cooper Baptist Church. OnNovember 24, 1970, she married Asgill B.Braswell and he preceded her in death in1994. Also preceding her in death were 2brothers and 4 sisters, Melvin and CarlCrouse, Patricia Vandeville, NovaVanBaalen, Dorothy Martin and EthelTripp. Surviving are many nieces andnephews. Because of Bill's wonderful sense of humor and warm smile, he was called a"sweetheart" and "my favorite" by the staff during his recent hospital stay atBorgess Medical Center.
