CONSERVATION RESERVE PROGRAM, GENERAL SIGN- UP 43, MARCH 12-APRIL 6, 2012 USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) will hold a Con- servation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up from March 12through April 6, 2012.CRP is a voluntary pro- gram that helps agricultural producers use environmen- tally sensitive land for conservation benefits. Producers enrolled in CRP plant long-term, resource conserving covers to control soil erosion, improve water and air qual- ity and develop wildlife habitat. In return, FSA provides participants with rental payments and cost-share assis- tance. Contract duration is between 10 to 15 years. Ac- cepted contracts for CRP sign-up 43 will begin on Oct.1, 2012. SSVFD ANNUAL MEETING MAR. 31 Summer Shade VFD will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, Mar. 31st at 6 p.m. at the fire department. Two members of the community will be elected to the Board of Directors. Anyone concerned about the future of your VFD needs to attend this very important meeting. Show your support; Offer your ideas; Pay your fire dues. Dues pay the utility and repair bills for the department. We can’t operate without them. BLUEGRASS CONCERT MAR. 31 Bowling Park will hold a Bluegrass Concert on Satur- day, Mar. 31st starting at 7 p.m. at the new Leftwich Hall (formerly the Village Shop) and featuring Southbound and Stateline. Cost is $5 at the door. Concessions will be available. GARDEN PROGRAM BEGINS APRIL 2 The Community Action Garden Program is designed to encourage economic self-support by providing low- income households with the essential materials to start growing a vegetable garden. Eligible program participants receive a $20.00 voucher from Community Action of Southern Kentucky, Inc. The voucher can be used to purchase garden products, such as, garden seeds, garden plants, and/or fertilizers. The voucher cannot be used for potting soil or beautification plants. For more information contact the local Community Services Office at (270) 432-4006. “THE ROAD TO A HEALTHY HEART” APR. 3 This will be the topic for the meeting of the “Grateful Hearts” Support-Education Group. Registration is never required to attend the free edu- cation/support group meetings. Meetings of “Grateful Hearts” are regularly held on the 1st Tuesday of each month.
