Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive – UK legislation by 5th June 2014
• Energy Audits to be required every four years for “large enterprises,” initially before Dec. 2015
• Approved ESOS Lead Assessors to be used: internal / external• Lead Assessor may be used in a supervisory role• SMEs and Public Bodies not included• Requirements: review total energy use and performance over time,
identify potential savings measures and costs of implementation, obtain sign-off
• Compliance for DEC, Green Deal, ISO50001 certified from Dec. 2011
• Scheme Administrator to be Environment Agency online

MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards)
• From 2018, new leases unlawful for domestic (private rented only) and non-domestic buildings with an EPC rating F-G,
• From 2023 MEES will also apply to existing leases
• Local Authorities will enforce MEES• LAs empowered to serve compliance
notices to request information and penalty notices levying fines
