Members of our Student Representative Council (SRC) attended a network meet‐ing for all Dubbo and District schools. The focus of the meeting was to discuss stu‐dent feedback about school culture on how to improve Teacher Quality and Stu‐dent Engagement. Our students said that it was the largest representation for schools for a network meeting that they had been to. Our next P&C meeting will be held at the Uniform Shop on 12 June commencing at 7:30 pm. All parents are welcome. We are a uniform school and expect all students to be in the correct uniform each day. Some students wear different coloured jumpers to school. Our uniform shop has school jumpers (cheap) on sale for parents to purchase. It is embarrass‐ing when students need to be told re‐peatedly to wear the correct school jumper. Also our uniform policy allows for navy tracksuit pants to be worn. Can‐terbury or other labels that have strips and colours on them are not school uni‐form. This has been communicated a number of times to students. We ask par‐ents to assist us to support the school uniform policy. Our primary cross country team com‐peted at the District (NARRAF/Gobondery) trail in Tullamore last Friday. Mrs Sargent managed the team. 18 stu‐dents competed and enjoyed the compe‐tition. We acknowledge the parents who were able to attend the trial and sup‐ported our team. Congratulations to those who were selected to compete at the Western Cross Country Trial in Wel‐lington on 13 June. The Maths Matters program is being im‐plemented in our school for students K – 8. Mrs Jo Blatch and Mrs Sargent are

FRUIT AND VEG: HOW MUCH SHOULD I BE EATING? Eating 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables is a good rule of thumb for the family in general. Take a moment to look at the table below to find out how many serves each member of your family needs to eat.

The amount of fruit and veg required by children changes, based on their age. Their level of activity should also be taken into account when considering their dietary needs. Pregnant and breastfeeding women also require more fruit and veg in their diet. For more information check out the Australian Government Department of Health And Ageing’s website – www.health.gov.au and search ‘recommended daily servings’.

The Schools Physical Activity and Nutrition Survey (SPANS 2010) showed that overweight and obesity levels don’t appear to have got worse since the last survey in 2004. However 23%, nearly one in four, children are still overweight or obese. Fruit consumption is improved but less than half of students are consuming the recommended daily amounts of vegetables.

GO FOR 2 & 5®: HOW MUCH IS A “SERVE”? Targets for fruit and vegetable consumption are measured in “serves”. It’s important to know how much a serve is so you can work out how much you’re currently eating and if you need to eat more.

One serve of FRUIT is 150 grams of fresh fruit or:

One serve of VEGETABLES is 75 grams of vegetables or:

You will notice that a serve of vegetables is half the amount of a serve of fruit (75g instead of 150g). In fact, 2 ½ cups of cooked vegetables every day will provide an adult with their recommended daily in‐take (5 serves of vegetables)! Knowing the correct serving size helps people to put the target of 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables into perspective.
